Italy first love

  • Hello everyone,

I joined Inside Volley Country a few years ago, but since I mainly follow the summer season and the national teams, I don’t visit very often and I comment even less frequently. It's time now to introduce myself.

I’m in love with the Italian women’s national team, which has finally reached maturity over the last few years after more than a decade of building up. The core of this team won the U18 World Championships in 2015 and 2017. Since then, they’ve added new players every year and began to achieve notable results at the highest level, starting with the silver medal at the 2018 World Championships in Japan.

Everybody knew this group of players had something special, but we had to wait until 2021 to see them win the European Championship, and until 2024 to celebrate Olympic gold. In the meantime, Italy also won the VNL three times: in 2022, 2024, and 2025. Now this group is one of the true wonders of volleyball, a perfectly oiled machine with a spectacular style of play.

It’s been a long journey, but at last the “ragazze speciali” (“special girls”), as coach Julio Velasco calls them, have achieved what they truly deserve, to the joy of all Italian fans.

I’m here to celebrate their victories with love and admiration, not only for the Italian champions but also for the athletes of the other national teams, whose skills makes women’s volleyball the most exciting sport of all.

  • Hello, it's great to have another pro-Ita supporter join us. There aren't many of us here, but maybe that will change. Our current successes are the result of over 10 years of hard and consistent work in various youth groups and juniors groups. It took about 10 years to achieve the right group structure in the senior NT to achieve success. However, I still believe we're losing too many talented juniors and they arenn`t realizing their potential. I'm also concerned that too many people refuse to play in NT in the summer and these aren't a veterans but still young people. This needs to change. A perfect example is Moki, who is 38 years old and yet she has never refused to come a national team training camp. If only everyone did the same...
