It depends on what you mean. The number of games for each team remains fundamentally the same. This year, all teams played six games, regardless of whether they were in the Golden or Silver League. Only the total number of games played during the competition increases.

The merging of the Golden and Silver Leagues will definitely lead to some very decisive results in the league phase. For example, when top teams like Romania, Sweden or Slovenia face teams like the qualifiers or Iceland.

Im curious about its impact on the rankings of the "middle" ground teams. If they have to play more silver league teams, there's less opportunities to earn points. (on the flip side, there's less chance to lose points if they're filling games with lower ranked teams)

It will certainly hurt a lot. Especially since the top nations Scotland (80.85 points), San Marino (63.81 points), and Ireland (51.31) don't participate, but teams like Iceland (16.33), Kosovo (26.61), or Georgia (27.91) do. 😂😂

Joking aside: A solid nation like Hungary received 3.47 points for their 3-0 victory against Denmark in the European Championship qualifiers. The other top nations' 3-0 victories against these very small opponents will likely also be worth around three points.

Personally, I'm rather pessimistic about this for the smaller nations. In the old format, they also had matches against opponents of their own caliber. These matches are now missing in the new format. If you look at Iceland, for example: Their weakest opponents will be Austria and Latvia. They lost 3-0 to Austria this year and 3-1 to Latvia last year. I don't know if this format will break the morale of the smaller nations in participating in this competition.

The start of the national team season is still more than three months away. But the Slovakian federation has already announced the extended squads of the national teams. For the women, national coach Martino Volpini was allowed to nominate 18 players and together with his coaching team, he decided on the following:

• outsite hitter: Radka Hašková (2004), Lucia Herdová (2000), Karolína Fričová (2000), Karolína Matalíková (2005), Zuzana Šepeľová (1999)
• middle block: Emma Erteltová (1999), Tereza Hrušecká (2002), Katarína Körmendyová (1999), Ema Smiešková (2003), Barbora Truchlá (2006)
• opposite: Nina Dreisigová (2006), Simona Jelínková (2001), Karin Šunderlíková (1999)
• libero: Ema Magdinová (1999), Zuzana Justhová (2004)

Like last year, the coaching team includes Michal Matušov (assistant coach), Richard Nemec (athletic trainer) and Daniel Bruch (statistician). Martino Volpini chose his compatriot Andrea Carasi as the second assistant coach and Karin Palgutová will remain with the national team but now as team manager.

Actually I would like to see Pernicova there.

She is without a doubt the greatest Slovakian talent in a long time. But I think that would be too soon for her and she shouldn't be rushed. She would still only be 14 years old when playing in the European League, so I don't even know if that would be possible. Even in the Slovakian league, she can only play with special permission.

If Slovakia don't qualify for the U18 European Championship, she would form the backbone of the U20 team together with the other two great talents, Juliana Katočová and Linda Kovalčíková. In the summer, the team will then prepare thoroughly for next year's European Championship qualifiers under Jakub Brečka.

Who are the best players of this team? I only remember sunderlikova and fricova from their junior NT competitions

I must admit I'm finding this question a little difficult. Certainly, you could name the players who have already gained experience in stronger European leagues. Karolína Fričová and Zuzana Šepeľová currently play in France and Karin Šunderlíková played in France last season. But fundamentally, the team must rely on its collective strength.

The Hellvigs are a volleyball/beach volleyball family. Not only do Agnes, Hanna, and Jonatan Hellvig play volleyball or beach volleyball, but their parents also played volleyball.

National coach Martino Volpini had to make a change to the Slovak roster. Simona Jelínková, who leads the scoring charts in the Czech Extraliga along with Nina Dreisigová, needs to undergo shoulder surgery. Diana Návratová has been called up to replace her. Interestingly, she wasn't previously on the extended roster to cover for potential player absences.

In addition, another position has been created in the coaching team and Valter Durigon will act as an advisor.
