Poland Women's NT 2026

  • The issue is that for some reason in our youth programs when a player is over 185cm tall they are pushed to play as a OPP or MB. For the last couple of years in any junior team almost all OHs are around 180cm and well not everyone is a Gabi so often they don't make it big in seniors

exactly! I agree! But sometimes this "small" OH are just good like Liliana Wójcik or Aleksandra Wika. Anyway I prefer highier OHs. Good that we have Natasza Ornoch, Aleksandra Adamczyk or younger Zuzanna Lange.

  • Do you think if Anna Kurek did not stop playing back then, she would have been a big player now?

For me she was the best player, next to Mędrzyk, from that generation. She was very athletic and high jumping.
But I see that in volleyball a lot of depends on your approach and hard work. As she chose what she chose I guess she could be not too hard working. Anyway i liked her and think about her from time to time.

  • I need to write a few words about Magda Stysiak. For those outside Poland who are not familiar with the latest drama: after a journalist asked her about the comments online regarding her poor performances at the European Championship, she called it “horrible hate” coming from people who post anonymously (the funny part is that many of the people commenting on X have been doing so for years under their real names) and basically said that if they have something to say to her, they should send her an email XD

A lot of former players have also joined the discussion, saying, that she may be playing terribly, but we are winning, so just shut up and leave her alone. But Magda is not an 17-year-old kid who has just made her debut for the NT and needs to be protected at all costs, she is supposed to be the leader of this team. So why exactly are we not allowed to hold her accountable when she plays badly?

On top of that, our commentators, who are friends with Magda, seem to be completely silent about her awful stats and praise every single attack she manages to put away. Yesterday, (reminder: Magda hit at 25%) and our commentator said that she was “carrying the attack” and that, honestly, it was strange that Szczurowska was coming onto the court although apparently “something has to be changed to try to fight against Italy.” XD

What I find incredible is that an experienced player like Magda, who is already 26 and has been playing professionally for around ten years, still seems unable to admit to herself (or even notice?) that she is simply playing terribly. No wonder she has been stuck in the same place for several years if she cannot recognize that this is yet another major tournament where she has failed to show up in good form.

After the Olympics, she admitted that the pressure and importance of the tournament got to her and that she mentally couldn’t handle it. But since then? Nothing seems to have changed. There has been no visible mental work, not to mention improving her explosiveness or learning to make better use of her reach. I honestly cannot watch her asking for challenges anymore when the ball is literally flying more than half a meter above the block or constantly looking for some kind of touch in defense when there clearly wasn’t one. Okay, she is a nice person and she brings a friendly atmosphere to the team. But someone actually has to play volleyball, not just wander around the court.

The problem is that we are basically stuck with Stysiak until the 2028 LA. Szczurowska is obviously not perfect either, she needs to work on reducing the number of errors she makes and becoming more consistent from the service line. But anyone with eyes can see how much energy and motivation she brings onto the court. That is exactly the kind of character this team needs. I really hope Szczurowska starts today’s match. And as for Magda - I genuinely hope she finally opens her eyes, because she can still save her career.

  • Stysiak is a topic, for sure. As I heard from NT member, she is just lazy and that’s the reason of her constant shape. She won’t be better if won’t work on her. After I heard opinion about her, I lost all hopes that I had about her.
I hope Szczurowska’s appearance will push her, at least, to some mental change.

Szczurowska is not perfect, agree, but the work she did this summer is impressive and she was the only player who asked Lavarini 3 years ago what to do to be called for NT camp.

Some of our problems are with laziness of our players. But there are more hard working than these lazy ones  and if someone would wonder why Piasecka starts most of the matches instead of Czyrna, this is the reason.

  • I like Stysiak but as you said I don’t think fans calling poor performance is the big issue (like everyone knows that casual fans will always have shitty opinions and you shouldn’t care much about that). I don’t think that being stuck with her till LA is a big problem since she can play good and we have a decent sub with Szczurowska however the problem is that she should not have a guaranteed starter position and enormous margin of error (my favourite example is her BAD Olympic tournament and being on the court almost all the time, and Stysiak is not an only player who have that). Still the biggest issue for me is the setter and middle blocker positions… I think it is already decided who will be in LA and new players have like very small chance to show themselves in NT (Koput was like the only exception). For example Grabka for sure is going to be our 2nd setter which I will always find bizarre…

I agree, it’s insane that Grabka and Stefanik are here. I think I would find at least 10 MBs from our league that could replace Sonia.

  • A bad year for Poland, failing to advance past the VNL group stage and missing out on a medal at the European Championship.

ofcourse not the best because Poland is without medal, but the results this season are not so bad, looking for situation around team ( injures, weird absences ect.) Ehh for sure girls have big problems with their shape. Lastest years we played better.

  • A bad year for Poland, failing to advance past the VNL group stage and missing out on a medal at the European Championship.

I am not sure if it’s that bad. Let’s be real 4th place in ECH is our maximum. Szczygłowska, Łukasik, Pierzchała and Gryka are injured and maybe all of them would be in the starting six, while Ognjenovic came back to Serbia.

  • I think missing VNL finals is bigger loss than ECH medal - ECH medal is more important but we had bigger chances in VNL as many teams were not in full rosters.
Also injuries of Pierzchała, Gryka and after that Czyrniańska and Lukasik caused some problems for Lavarini. So I take this result as decent result.

As long and Poland will play with this MBs style, won’t win anything important.

  • I also don't think that was a bad year per se when it comes to the group and form/health of the players. I'm glad Koput managed to get a chance, I'm glad we could see every single OH playing some matches and gaining experience but also I don't expect much in next years too. Yes, Szczygłowska & Łukasik injures made it harder for us but tbh even if Pierzchała was healthy I don't think Lavarini would use her a lot (he seems to not care about her that much even though I think she is our best MB at the moment), Gryka would play but if she was healthy than Koput would not play at all and that's a fact lol. We are at the good place at the ranking and probably we will make it to the LA so I shouldn't complain but I just wish we could try to develop more players who have potential during VNL... We did not see any young setter getting a chance in years even though our current setters are nothing special... Jurczyk (who had good EC I'm gonna say that!) played almost all the VNL matches regardles of her form when some other players could've gain experience. We only really are trying something new when it comes to OH position and that's it. Hopefully the girls will recover and grow during club season since some of them have a decent chance of doing so and hopefully they won't care that much about haters.

    It's not true at all.

We had a lot of tall OH in SMS.

    Damaske (186), Grzelak (187), Szlagowska (188), Druzkowska (192), Rasińska (191), Czyrnianski (191), Sznajduch (195), Baczyńska (187), Lijewska (192), Muszyńska (189), Brzoza (188), Oronoch (188), Piasecka (189), Leoniak (192), Łagida (190), Adamczyk (187), Wieczorek (187), Górzyńska (187), Zegan (186)

    Now: Czerwonka (192), Pinderska (195), Koprowska (189), Lange (187)

    Where are they?

if damaske is 186, stysiak is 216

  • I think he meant Magdalena Damaske. She is Paulina’s older sister. She was very promising, but the injuries completely destroyed her. I think she was injured every year, when she was active as a player.

ohh, i am sorry to hear that

  • I want to add a comment about Czyrnianska. I think she is leading her career in a bad way. She’s a starter in her club, but she’s not getting better. She should change the league at least for a while. I know she was injured most of the NT season, but maybe the italian league could develop her more.

  • Now: Czerwonka (192), Pinderska (195), Koprowska (189), Lange (187)

Notice how every single one of those players spent at least a year playing as an OPP and some of them more, instead of focusing on learning how to receive
