Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2026/27

    Vilsbiburg posted a pixelated image of its next new addition for the upcoming season on its Instagram Story. It will likely be Sarah Stiriz, who will then form a libero duo with Brodowski.

    USC Münster is strengthening its coaching staff with Jürgen Wagner, who will serve as an individual coach. He is known for his success as a beach volleyball coach, having led both Brink/Reckermann and Ludwig/Walkenhorst to world championship title and Olympic gold. However, he has also achieved success as an indoor coach, guiding CJD Feuerbach (women) and Moerser SC (men) to German championship titles.

    Indeed he is one of the most renowned volleyball coaches of the world, received the highest international prize for example in beach volleyball for leading Brink/Reckermann in 2012 and Ludwig/Walkenhorst 2016 to Olympic Gold.

    I think Suhl will play like last season. Sambale in reception and Yoshida in defense. In general it is competition inside the pack.

    Borken announced that Yina Liu will not play for them this season. The medical exams raised questions about whether she could play a full season, so the club decided not to sign her eventually. This means they need another setter surprisingly.


    In general, the rosters of the weak teams don't look any better than last season :gone: Borken kept most of their team without signing any real upgrade, Hamburg made some changes but other than Julevik none of their transfers looks any spectacular and Flacht barely announced anyone and the ones they announced are meh. At least Vilsbiburg seems to be able to build a fairly decent team that should fight with Erfurt for 8th place.

    I wonder if Schwerin will sign/announce a 4th OH or if they might move Kirchhoff back to OH and get another OPP instead. In NT Kirchhoff looked more promising at OH than at OPP, though most likely she won't make it to highest level on either position.

    Where is the money supposed to come from? If the German government carries on like this in future you can close the championship. There won't be any sponsors from economy.

    You can't blame the government because there is no culture of sports sponsorship aside from men's soccer in Germany.

    When you ask me there is a culture of sports sponsorship in German volleyball. All teams are most sponsored from the local economy especially by small and medium - sized enterprises. You can look on every club side, most sponsors from local area. In Europe Germany has the highest energy costs and that is of no interest to any economy. (sorry for little off topic)

    The root issue is, that sponsors for sports in Germany are estimated as 95% vested only in men's football first three professional leagues. This empties the possible sponsors largely for other team sports, and volleyball is not even number two here, clearly even behind handball, basketball and ice hockey (all only men). So the clubs are fighting for the few non men's soccer sponsors and those are neither many nor rich ones. This is visible when you trace the sum of sponsoring in volleyball for all professional clubs together (including men), this is constantly at a ceiling of at most 16 million Euros. That sponsoring for women's volleyball works at all is due to popularity for spectators, which we know also from many other countries, they are better than most other team sports of women.

    But who can change rules and in my opinion has the duty to save and support the economy no matter how big or small it is ? The government.
