2026 Men's VNL

  • He is basically an OPP standing in the middle. He hits half balls rather than quick middle balls.

Yesterday, Christenson gave him a rather quick ball, but he couldn't hit it at the right window and only tipped it.

Yeah that is why I think maybe he can do a Nimir and shift position to Opp as maybe it would capitalize his strength more.

He's not a good server though, I doubt he has footwork to be an elite opposite. Also, the US needs badly any depth on the MB position, this is by far the weakest position they have.

After 2 weeks: super exciting VNL so far, several upsets and soooo maaany close games, this is super entertaining to follow. France is -4 points from the top7 spot and they have super hard last week schedule, and even Poland or Italy are only +2 from the 8th spot. Several star players playing seriously from the start. Can't ask for that much more tbh.

I couldn’t agree more. I just wish I had more time to watch more matches and schedule of the matches does not help either.

It could be just me but one thing I have noticed in the last couple summers is male side has a lot of exciting matches during the pool phase yet not that exciting finals. This could be because of more experienced players showing up fully in form for the finals. Women side, on the other hand, is the opposite. Lots of boring matches during the pool phase and some team can pull a surprise in the finals except Italy winning at the end lol

  • McHenry's reach is insane. Wonder if he can be more successful in the Opp position.

Even I hope Vitay Heynen could give Hu Hanlin more time.

    He didn't do it.

Hu Hanlin could jump 3.72 metres high but ... no way ...

Chinese men's NT is a weak team for decades.

We only have ... money ...

My favourite roster of Chinese (in 2022)
    male NT:
    S - Yu Yao-chen, Chen Lei-yang
OP - Jiang Chuan, Dai Qing-yao
    OH - Zhang Jing-yin, Yu Yuan-tai, Liu Li-bin, Fu Hou-wen
    MB - Zhang Zhe-jia, Peng Shi-kun, Li Yong-zhen, Jiang Zhen-yang
    L - Yang Yi-ming, Yang Tian-yuan

    female NT:
    S - Yao Di, Diao Lin-yu
    OP - Gong Xiang-yu, Sun Xiao-xuan
    OH - Li Ying-ying, Wang Yi-fan, Wu Meng-jie, Zhuang Yu-shan
MB - Yuan Xin-yue, Wang Yuan-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Liu Yu
    L - Ni Fei-fan, Xu Jia-nan

  • OMG. It's not a competition of how high the MBs can jump. Of course, it's good if they can jump high so that they have good blocking height. But for MBs' attacking, tempo is more important. The MBs are part of a system. They need to be able to form combinations with other attacking positions to draw the opponent's blockers' attention.

McHenry's attacking style is basically a tempo killer. For instance, his attack and the pipe cannot form a useful combination when the ball is in system.

The good part is he jumps high, and it's almost impossible to block him. But when the second ball is not traveling high above, everybody knows the ball is not set to McHenry.

  • Not VNL related but RIP to Venezuela Men's NT Willner Rivas, his wife and son. They were victims of the earthquake in Venezuela

  • According to the FIVB, his wife Mariángel Pérez played for the Venezuelan women's national team but had already retired.

Link: FIVB mourns the passing of Willner Rivas, Mariángel Pérez and their son Theo

terrible that there was no help for 12 days. ;(

  • Brazil Roster for Week 3

    S: Cachopia, Brasilia

    OP: Darlan, Bryan

OH: Adriano, Arthur, Honorato, Lucarelli, Maicon

    MB: Flavio, Judson, Pinta, Barreto

    L: Maique, Pureza

Thank the gods Douglas is not listed for Week 3

  • That shove by Young on the libero in set 1 was strange, as it was quite aggressive. Probably heat of the moment but I rarely see such behaviour in the court (except for setters moving their mids).

  • I love this Italy vs Japan game. Japan almost won Set 1 but Italy challenged and won 26-24. Italy's MBs are so good

  • Canada men are like the Serbian women from last year in terms of losing in every way possible in matches they basically won lol

  • Amazing point from Italy!
