Why Dominican republic get the wild card...

for me Russia and Holland should get it!!!!!!

After last days, this wild card for Poland is a very good news. WC is very difficult tournament ( always in Japan ), but it is still one more chance to get into Olympic Games. Dominicana is rather average team and will be loosing in WC.
Russia? Well of course, it's a World Champion, but that's not so importnant for FIVB. Polish men team was second in the world and South Korea :? and Bulgaria have been given wild cards instead of them. One sure thing in FIVb is that Acosta is an Mexican...

to be honestly i am very happy coz glinka and polish gals can play in worldcup..but i think russia should get one wild card too. world ranking no.1, 06 world champion, and 3rd in eurochamp! wot is the reason to exclude them in worldcup?!?! i am so sad for sokolova & gosha....

Well, it's not really hard to imagine why Acosta gives preference for Dominican Republic...

Also, I doubt they would give two wild cards for two european teams, because it wouldn't be fair at all. And I agree with who says that Russia will classify for OG anyway, so what's the point of WC?

Mariuzc and Konrad, it's nothing personal, but you said something about the man teams, I know that here is not the place, but how can you said that poland deserves wild card when they won only one match and finished 11th? And i don't think that poland made a better euro than Bulgaria. about women I think poland can receive wild card, but for dominicana is not so strange, because the aim of acosta is to increase volleyball popularity all over the world, so it's good for dominicana to play, in women volleyball every team could beat every other, so it will be interesting. I wanted to say that nomatter how Acosta and FIVB give the wild cards, i think they are trying to do it for the benefit of volleyball and they try to be honest.

I actually think it was right to give 2 wild cards to 2 teams of different continents...and so out of Europe probably Dom.Republic was the best team to choose

But actually what I think is that probably Poland is receiving too many advantages, don't you think so? Qualifying to Gp2008 without qualification and receiving this wild card that also Russia or Holland or Germany could have taken...!?!?!?

I don't remember any of my comments regarding men team - my opinion Polish men team should not come to WC but is Korea better choice ?? Bulgaria was better in ECH and they are but why not Serbia or Finland ... as always "wild cards" not depends on current position of team - it's combination of marketing/TV contracts and finally Acosta and Japanese's decision.

Ok, sorry, I may misunderstood, but one of the reason s why men team receives wild card is that the european qualify tournament for the olympics was about to be in Bulgaria, but they have taken it away from us and have gven it to Germany, so Bulgaria deserves consolation. It's true that giving wild card doesn't depend on the moment form of the team, but not always. I think Serbia plays good volley, but they are always in the easy stream of the tourmnaments, that's why ther are 4th in the world and got 3rd place in the EC. If they were in the stream of Russia, Bulgaria, Poland and Italy, as it was in the EC, they wouldn't have the chance to qualify for the semi-finals.

So, in some sense mariuszj1939 answered for me. EC was a diseaster for men's Polish team, but we should think about whole season, not only one tournament (eg. Polish girls played very bad in last WC and quite well in EC, men - inversely). I'm not telling Polish men should have been given wild card, but they could. Expecially when South Korea is there... OK, I'm finishing, cause it's a little off-topic.

It won't be easy, but it is possible to beat Brasil. Woman team is not as good as men. In Grand Prix final, only Poles lost to Brasil. They lost it mentally (wow! Brasil! :shock2: ). I hope it will be completely different this time.

I think on world cup should go Poland, Dominican Rep. and Russia instead of Korea.
But I'm very happy that Poland will play there.

one of the wild cards could have been given to canada instead of dominic.canada performed good in the last norceca.

Yes, it might be the reason, but only if we are talking about Dominicana Rep. It won't be easy for Japan to beat Poland.
