Does anyone get these two matches?? I want to watch it...

  • I visited the match between Dinamo and Uralochka. The most important conlusion of this match is that Estes must be in NT. My thoughts about Zhenya (Artamonova – Estes) only confirmed. As I have written before Caprara will make a mistake if he doesn’t call Estes.
    About the game.
Uralochka didn’t exist on the court in first two sets: poor reception, almost no attack (only Artamonova), no defence, nothing. The third started as previous two with 4:1 for Dinamo and I was reaaly dissapointed, because recently I visit volleyball matches rarely and I hoped to se good volleyball and interesting game. Then Uralochka started to power up thankfully to Estes and some good defence and errors of Dinamo, that resulted in no time in 10-5, 14-11. When the score was 14-12, the ball was obviously out and it should had been 15-12 for Uralochka but referee made a mistake and gave the point to Dinamo. Sheshenina (as a captain) started to argue with ref, on the other side it was Godina who argued, however she’s not a captain. In the long run the score was tied to 14-14, because Sheshenina was given yellow card. Karpol was mad. Karpol called Sheshenina and told her something then she moved to the ref and retold Karpol’s words… well it was funny to watch… Uralochka was so mad with this decision that scored three points in a row, it was 17-14. Due to Artamonova and some blocks it was 25-21. Well, I cheered up a bit. The fourth set was a bit different because it was Uralochka that led the score 8-5. Artamonova, who found her rhythm in previous set was almost unstoppable, attacking always with two or three blocks on her way, from position four and back row. The fourth set ended with 25-20 on the scoreboard. As you could notice, I cheered for Uralochka and I believed that Estes can win the match against Dinamo, but as we all know one’s as good as none. Fifth set was Gamova against Artamonova. When it was 3-3, all points (if I’m not mistaken) were scored by these players. Well, there’s one but – Gamova has such mates as Godina and Tom and Artamonova doesn’t. Uralochka led 5-3, 11-9, 12-11 and then so stupidly the game ended in favour of Dinamo. Dinamo scored 4 points in a row and that’s it - 15-12.
Still, I believe that Uralochka can make it through.
Great game for Artamonova! Bravo! Veteran showed that there is life in the old dog yet.
If she improves her physical conditions and gain some power we will see almost previous super star Zhenya.
Gamova played good hitting over blocks but as usual without fire in her eyes. I never saw it after OG2004 (WCH 2006 is an exeption). Tom as usual is good on serve (damn, this girl can serve!) and in defence (some awesome digs) amazed me. Godina can play better – her serves were nothing in this game, attacks so-so… but! She scored decisive points in the fifth set and was given best player of Dinamo in this match. Borodakova surprised me with the power and sharpness of her spikes and % (8 out of 8). I can’t remember last time I saw her hitting the ball, not just touching it or making tips. Liktoras was not so bright, so I can’t make comments. Gratcheva is soo tired of volleyball that I’ll be very-very happy for Tanya that I hope last season in her life ended. Speaking of Uralocka… well you know – Aramonova with 32 points – that’s it, almost overplayed Dinamo. Plotnikova could have played better, still good in reception and surprisingly serves float… Sheshenina played a bit adventurous when it wasn’t necessary and led the game not so well, but after Karpol’s time-outs, everything went far more better. She’s improving and it’s nice to see plus good serve that caused troubles for Dinamo.
Also, I wanted to say that I strongly believe that neither Uralochka nor Dinamo will be the champion of Russian superleague, because Zhukova makes such a difference with Gratcheva and Sheshenina; I’m not saying about Sokolova. Zarechie just smashed Spartak out of court 25-9, 25-15, 25-18…..It’s not the score for the semifinal.

  • Thank you for detailed description of the game. I wanted to watch it so badly but there is no TV broadcasting of russian women's league

  • for a russia fan, i think this is the best news i have heard for the day. i really hope that artamonova gets to play for beijing olympics. and i think there is a big chance for her to play. caprara has already invited her and perhaps the reason the management of her club did not allow her to play for the national team when it competed in the olympic qualification was because she was not yet ready physically and they wanted her to focus for the club. but now i think she is getting her form back and come the beijing olympics, she will physically be ready to play for the national team.

i wonder how caprara will maximize the skills of sokolova, gamova, artamonova and godina.

  • The latest very short interview with Artamonova after game with CSKA. (20.03)

You won 3:0. Was it an easy victory?

It was a very important match for us and we have been preparing for this one for the whole week. We invited Cuban NT to play some friendly matches. We had very high motivation. We wanted to win and won at last.

During your sports career you played in many foreign clubs, why Russia now?

I had an agreement with the team and personal agreement with Karpol that whenever the team needs me I'll return, it's the very time now.

How many OG have you played? Are you going to Beijing?

I played 4!!! OG. I'd like to go to Beijing but I think my health won't allow me to. Old injuries don't allow me to recover at 100%.

Since 1988 our NT never won gold medal, we are always on podium, but no gold medals. How do you think whether the reason for that is an insufficient level of preparation or (as our men's team manager Ruslan Olikhver said) we have no stable psychology? Each player has to be mentaly prepared for every single match?

I reckon that the reason is an insufficient level of preparation. Each player goes to OG with huge desire to win, what psychology are you talking about?

You have been playing for a long time, do you think that the game changed?

Yes, a lot, volleyball became power game.

You have changed your surname, tell something about changes in your life?

Yes, I'm married. We have son, he's 2,4 years old.

Well, what frightens me is that those injuries really won't allow Zhenya to fully recover and it's sad. Physical conditions is very important factor and for Caprara as well. I remember that he had said once: " I prefer Akoulova 'caus she can set high balls during all 5 sets". Well, the only thing we have left is to wait till NT training camp and Caprara's decision. Well, at least she's not worse than Safronova and Kulikova.

  • i hope artamonova changes her mind. even if she is not 100% in her physical state, she certainly is better than safronova and fateeva. bringing fateeva to the beijing olympics is certainly disadvantageous for the russian team. instead of following the steps of sokolova or artamonova, she is following the steps of safronova -- being one of the most blocked russian player. i notice that everytime she replaces a player and a ball is set to her, she is BLOCKED, as in the olympic qualification and others. thats the first time she does when she is on the court, being blocked.

    i hope arta really returns.
