i don’t know all the young players in the US program that well, but i did watch the pan am games last year, as well as many pan am cups over the years.
a few years ago, the US sent the following team to the PA cup, which they won, surprising the DOM at home, i think: carlini/whitney, lee/wilhite, haleigh/chiaka, with rivers and anae among others coming off the bench. (i think in the following edition, drews was the starting OPP.)
at the PA games in lima last year, both plummer and cuttino were awful, but rivers coming off the bench outshone them both. p. tapp, al-Hassan, SSS, wilhite and kingdon were also in that team, which was a mess and finished 7th, only beating CAN.
recently in the BRA league, cuttino seemed very impressive, certainly very improved and unstoppable in many matches. but in the last two matches, she reverted to her old self and struggled a lot. when she’s dominant, she’s a very fast hitter and a big jumper. when she struggles, she gets the timing and angles all wrong. i sometimes don’t know why she needs such fast sets.
rivers, i hear, is shining in GER league, but she’s short for the US program, i think.
wilhite seems to be doing well currently but i don’t really see her as an OPP, specially in the NT.

is karch not into rivers and cuttino?
-
does minas only show up when there’s a tough opponent? it looks like they don’t really care against a weak team.
-
dude, what’s up with cuttino? she’s reverted to her old self. last 2 matches, she’s been horrible.
this SJP team is interesting. i recognize some players from last season, when they were in other teams: bia, carla, talia, larissa. the others i don’t know.

OFF TOPIC, saishuu !
here's highlights of SP x brasilia:
-
you’re such a ditzhead, saishuu. LOL
-
the website still lists SP x brasília and sesc x sesi for today, but praia x osasco is postponed. so who knows what that means?

rizola did a great job with the COL program, let’s hope it continues. in the last few years, COL has notched victories over PER, VEN, ARG, PUR, CUB, CAN, MEX (and BRA B, as sidney mentioned), certainly they deserved to be in the last WCh, more than some of the norceca teams.
-
yes, ivone, madelaynne’s sister. i didn’t know she was injured.
do you follow the COL team? i hear of a player , dana escobar, who’s 195 cm, but i haven’t seen her in action. is she any good?
-
he had a fight with ngapeth, which apparently was serious, and said he’d never play in the team with him.
-
Well they should win on argentina
In olympic qualifier they get so close
But IMO the colombia oh are so small to international level, that limits them a lot
well, martinez and coneo are kinda short (180/177), but they have youngsters like montaño and olaya (187-190), who are coming up and they are training to be receiving OH, not OPP, so things are changing, and they’re getting more depth in the bench.
-
i hope COL finally goes to the WCh, they really deserve it. in the last few ones, CSV only had 2 slots, which was ridiculous considering norceca got 7 at the last one.
-
they brought rabadzhieva mid-season. also ade came to bauru mid-season too.
about thaisa’s complaint, where did she get those numbers? the thing is, players are always pushing the boundaries and testing what they can get away with in sports, it’s human nature.
you saw that in yesterday’s match, when lorena got called for creeping up and crossing in front of the setter before the serve. the players’ reaction is always, “what? NO, NO!!! i didn’t!” but the replay showed the ref was right. the problem is if they don’t do it consistently. also i think it has to be very clearly a fault.
it’s like offside in football and the reach over the net/“invasion”, I feel that some refs will call it when it’s 1 cm over, others don’t, and it should be only when it’s very clearly over.
-
yeah i think nyeme is great but i think brait and leia are still ahead of her.
meanwhile c. gomez didn’t have a good match.
-
was that 3 aces in a row from roberta to close the match?
-
i think sesc really misses amanda & lorenne.
with gabiru and dru, they lose too much in firepower.
