Goncharova wasn't even a starter as they had Sokolova and Kosheleva back then pre 2012, but due to Kohe's injury, she was "forced" to play as OH in London so maybe a non-receiving OH alongisde Sokolova with Gamova as OPP. In 2014 WCH, she was mainly OH but switched positions with Gamova in the OPP position at times (the game with Serbia in particluar if I recall.)

GGoncharova became a starter in 2011 she played a (not too often) receiver OH,even in 2012 London she is a receiving(not too often) oh..

i think this is not only a pool bottom team with splended comback through in QF, just as Brazil did four years ago in London.
it was far more than that.

who can tell me the last time when Brazil missed the final four in OG tournament.
i think it might be in Barcelona 1992. that was 24 years ago...it is too sad to see brazil made it and it will be an overwhelming load for the whole team.

moreover, who can tell the last time when top four teams from one pool defeated all top four from the other pool in OG tournament?

nope they were in the top 4..they lost the bronze medal match against USA...in the semis they faced then CIS(Russia)

So for the 3rd Olympics in a row we are gonna have the same 2 teams in the final.

Brazil will beat China and USA will beat Japan.
If Russia makes to the semis they will loose to Brazil and Serbia will loose to the USA.

That's boring, not even in Basketball they had same 2 teams in 3 OG straight finals.

Haha then remember the past 1964 1968 1972 1976 only two teams

ughhhh... just like in london, no victories for africa. so disappointing. african countries really need to invest more in women. well hopefully they can build for the future.

all this talk about throwing matches to manipulate QF is silly. why would RUS or BRA gamble that NED is easier than CHN right now?

as i said, this is a most unsettled olympics, unlike london and beijing. i still see USA, BRA, SRB and CHN in semis.

But its look like china will face Brazil in the quarters

Fadeev says changes can be made until Aug 4 and that Ilchenko, Lyubushkina and Startseva are still training with the team. Malykh is totally out though
I don't think they can win gold and all this doping issues will surely affect them. While others can focus 100% on the training, they can't.
I guess I'm gonna need to make some sacrificial ritual that will magically turn Voronkova, Pankova and Malygina into the young top versions of Artamonova, Kirillova and Gamova :sos:

hahah i hope this is circa 2004 when no one expected that russia would reach the semis eventually wiining the gold almost
