The Kazakhstan soccer federation had to make a choice, while the volleyball federation made theirs.

Soccer felt that it was best to be placed in Europe (and with many of the other former Soviet Republics), while volleyball felt that Asia would be easier to succeed in is my guess.

    Or how about this.

'I remember (UEFA president Lennart) Johansson invited all 15 former Soviet republics to join UEFA way back in 1992.

'Uzbek soccer officials wanted it, our fans wanted it but we just couldn't convince our politicians back then,' he added.

I have no idea what the numbers in this thread mean, literally none and I actually DID try. So either I'm stupid, or it's unclear.

In America because we are geographically large, it is expensive to have teams in college play a nationwide schedule. So conferences were set up to have regional schools compete against each other. You play the majority of your matches in your conference. That is the first record.

The second record is all of the matches you have played outside of your conference (interconference) and all your matches in conference. Or as we call it here overall record.

You have to do well in your conference to advance to the Final Four because the three conference champions are guaranteed a spot and only one team is an at large team.

Each conference has a post-season tournament and the winner advances. To be the at large team, you must win matches to convince the selection committee that you are the best team to go.

I hope this helps. Even in the high school level, this is used. The school where I coach is in the lowest class (ranked by school size) and we have 9 teams in our conference (geographically). There are eight conferences in our state for my school's class size. In order to reach the state championship tournament, you have to perform well in your conference (one of the top two teams in your conference).

    Yume,

Glad to have you here. I went to Waseda's Kokusaibu and saw the 1993 Grand Champions Cup in person when Nakagaichi was playing for Japanese men's national team. Manabe kantoku did a great job getting the women's team a bronze at the Women's World Championships this past year.
