Supercup highlights:
After watching the full match, my impression is that Dresden was much better prepared for this match. Schwerin was all over the place and didn't make good use of their options. IMO it's not a good idea to try and force Artyshuk into hitting faster balls when she's really good with high sets. Reesink, as expected, is probably going to be a major problem for Schwerin in the long run.
Dresden also has some weaknesses, but Akimoto and Levinska were good enough to make up for that, and the new setter made a good impression. Not flashy, but very solid in the basics and with good speed and precision.
Yesterday's Tagesspiegel article So geht es nach dem Rückzug des SC Potsdam für Volleyballerinnen und Liga weiter reports that, alongside Alina Nasin, Michelle Bachmann will be leaving Potsdam and joining another team. Leni Kirchhof, on the other hand, will concentrate on her Abitur and will now play for SC Potsdam's second team. The Märkische Zeitung article Insolvenzantrag: So geht es für die Volleyballerinnen des SC Potsdam weiter states that a total of three players could imagine playing with the second team. These are most likely Johanna Schütte and Jovana Dordevic. Unlike Leni Kirchhof, however, the two are not yet registered with the VBL for SC Potsdam's second team.
RBB says Leni Kirchhoff is the only one to stay in Potsdam.
Pool A is by far the strongest with TUR-POL-GER-SLO ![]()
Miku Akimoto was voted MVP of the Supercup.
I haven't watched the match yet, but I thought Schwerin was going to win
Looks like Felix still has to figure out how to use his roster. Dresden's roster is much more limited, especially with Lorber Fijok being injured, but looks like they made the best of it today.
Anyone that can explain me how they will be able to play supercup on 4 october when fivb has a strict rule that club season can start only from 6 october? In Italy 1st round had to be moved on monday and in Belgium they had to cancel supercups because they were scheduled for 5 october.
Also all FIVB transfer for Schwerin and Dresdner (8 foreign players for each team) are valid only from 6 october.
On VBL site all players are marked as eligible to play.
But good question, I didn't know about this date. Maybe "Supercup" is not an official competition unlike league or national Cups? ![]()
Friendly matches are opportunities for the teams to prepare for the season.
Until recently, I wasn't aware that these days it has become the same for forum members ![]()
It's a freaking preseason tournament but still Herbots decides to deny that she touched the ball in block just to be revealed by video challenge? ![]()
How to make yourself not likeable, chapter 1 ![]()
What a disaster
And that two weeks before the start of the season ![]()
Potsdam is angry at the league, claiming they had documents to prove their financial stability, but VBL clearly says that they couldn't provide necessary proof for that. If they hadn't withdrawn on their own, the league would have revoked their license and the club would have suffered even harder penalties, so they quit on their own.
I'm really sorry for the players and staff, at this point it's not easy to find a new club.
I think you are struggling to understand facts here.🤦 Last season all Turkish OHs played either as full starter or half of the games in top clubs, they wouldn't have such playing time if clubs could play 4 foreigners. Do you think that a club like thy would have let Tuğba play as starter or yaprak would get so much playing time in Eczacıbaşı? Same for ilkin in GS? I'm not even mentioning about middle positions. If there was no restriction on foreigners, Aslı wouldn't be able to play in Fenerbahçe last year and next season as well.
If there were no restrictions on foreigners on the bench, Fenerbahçe would have get a cheap Serbian OH instead of Liza to sit on bench. Same for Eczacıbaşı with Aygün.
Mock as much as you want about Ayşe çürük. She is just one of the examples. It is VERY important to have a wide roster for NT. It is probably hard to understand for you because Serbian NT has such a limited pool of players thanks to lack of talent and stubborn coach you guys have😂 if there was a wide roster for Serbia, maybe it wouldn't flop so badly last summer huh?🙄
Don't you realise how much you are contradicting yourself? You keep mentioning how strong Turkish OHs are, yet you are certain that they wouldn't be starters if 4 foreigners were allowed? Where would all those world class OHs come from that would put Turkish OHs on bench if they are such strong players? ![]()

That's because we have less pools in the OGs, usually 2 pools of 6 teams (3 in the last edition).
In the WCH we have 8 pools of 4 teams, which means we have 8 tier I (1-8 seeds), 8 tier II teams (9-16 seeds) and so on... those 4th ranked team in the OG pools would be 1st or 2nd ranked in teams in the WCH pools.
For my very personal taste, this formula is better. Way more crucial games and fun. In the OG pool phase you already know 3 of 4 eliminated teams...
Brazil, France, Japan and Germany have a different opinion
Brazil lost one match and are out of top 16 in WCH, for me this is just not a fair formula.
The only thing I like about this crazy WCH every 2 seasons is the new formula of the tournament. All games matter.
Hopefully they can go back to play every 4 years with this formula. The post-Olympic WCH will always be this crazy otherwise.
In women's Olympic games we've had several times 4th ranked teams from preliminary pools winning Olympic gold IIRC. With such a formula as in WCH this would be completely impossible. Usually teams would improve throughout a tournament to be in best shape in the final matches, but now they need to be in best shape in their first match and might be completely worn out by the finals.
I'm not following the tournament very closely but all these results are just crazy ![]()
IMO this tournament shows even more than women's tournament how mad and flawed this formula is. Basically every match is like a final, one bad match and you can be eliminated. That's not what a World Championship should be like ![]()
Are liberos allowed to make a "set" with one hand in front of the 3m line?
Yesterday the cuban libero made a contact with one hand above her head in front of the 3m line in which the setter attacked over the net.
is that allowed since it wasnt explicitly a "set" with two hands
I think it's not explicitly defined. A few years ago I've seen a one-handed overhead dig by a libero being counted as "set" with the referee arguing that every contact above the head by the libero is counted as set that must not be followed by an atttack over the net. However I've never seen a complete definition of what counts as "set".
IMO Grozer harms German team more than he helps these days. Of course his personality, attitude and will to perform is very important, but he's just not a good player anymore
Filip John has been doing well in VNL but when Grozer is there, no coach will leave him on the bench.
If the rules implemented this year will be used in turkish league then they can always change positions when the ball is tossed. But probably it is hard to do in women's volleyball. I didn't see anyone doing it. It was more often in male teams. But with jump serve there is more time to change position than with float serve.
I saw it occasionally in WCH. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was France having Gelin and Rotar switch positions when Rotar was in pos.6 and Gelin in pos.1 so Gelin would receive in the middle of the court and take a large space while Rotar was only getting a little part of the court on the right side.
EDIT Or maybe I'm confusing them with what fire_erik_sullivan just wrote ![]()
I don't understand this situation at all. Milano is willing to wait for Akimova to recover and they have Plak while Akimova is recovering but Perugia completely terminated Romy's contract. Thy got Orthmann from Novara even when she was unfit
Like Sentenza_69 said, after a shoulder surgery it will probably take a long time for Jatzko to fully recover and it might not happen until the end of the season. And with all due respect, she's no Akimova and not even an Orthmann ![]()
I don't think these things are relevant...
There doesn't seem to be any controversy over the matter: there was a mutual agreement to terminate the contract, so both parties are satisfied, if one can even call it "satisfaction" in a dire situation for both parties...
The only thing that's certain is that the girl will presumably miss the entire season, and Perugia will have to return to the transfer market at a time when there's practically nothing available...
They can try to sign somebody who is going to play in the USA leagues until they have to show up there (late November/early December I think) and then hope to get somebody else along the way by chance.
I hope Jatzko will recover well, too bad that the injury turned out to be that bad ![]()
I've been out all the day, then watched the match without knowing anything, and only after that I read all the comments here and many of them make me sad.
IMO, it has been an amazing match by both teams, fighting for every ball and I thought the level was really high except for a few meltdowns by either team. Poor Turkey had theirs at the worst possible time, but still with some distance they can be proud of the match!
Orro is certainly not Italy's best setter ever, and awarding her MVP is a joke indeed, but I thought she had a good match overall. She did what she had to do to win and that's enough
Cansu did not do that in the end, but Turkey also was in a somewhat unlucky rotation in the end.
Sylla was amazing once again and for me she was the true MVP ![]()

But also hats off to Egonu how she fought her way into the match after two terrible sets. I was very surprised when Velasco started 3rd set with her but it turned out to be the right choice.
For Turkey, Vargas was simply impressive, and what Eda at her age did today was beyond words. I'm not a fan of Turkey but I would have wished her a WCH Gold medal.
Dream team is...lol. Danesi shouldn't be there and neither should Ishikawa. Put Sylla and Julia K. in and it's fine, plus Sylla or even Moky as MVP. I can accept Orro as best setter this time because it's not like anyone else was MUCH better.
