ok, TVF confirms that Turkey finished 9. Before the tournament I would say this would be a bad result but now I think it's ok. I still hope Barbolini will be fired though. No more heartbreaks with Barbolini please.

Serbia failed at the end of the tournament as I expected. I thought they could even lose to Netherlands but it didn't happen. I really think they are the strongest European team of this World Championship but they always find a way to disappoint me. Boskovic, no words :obey: I'm really curious if Vakıfbank tries to get her next year. They have a tradition for Serbian players.

they have sheilla this year. :P of course, with sheilla's (lack of) form, we might see a new OPP for vakifbank next year. unless sheilla surprise us.

Gamova is overjoyed! look at that reaction. :D

what a terrible performance by serbia. nikolic should be ashamed of herself. i don't want to point fingers but she's the reason why serbia lost. the number of errors she committed in this match is just unbelievable. she wasn't able to serve and receive at all. :pinch:

for me, kiraly is more suited as a "teacher". the technical capabilities of USA players show it. but when it comes to matches, especially on crunch time and USA is in a pinch, there are quite a few times that he's loss on what to do. we'll see though. should they medal on this tournament, that's a really big achievement already, considering USA has not medal in the last world championships.

i didn't understand what happened and what's the problem with the officials. was it wrong rotation? wrong server? the officials can't even decide if they can allow DOM's substitution. what's up with that? 8| even the commentator, clayton lucas, was totally lost as well.

I doubt about Borisenko but someone like Shlyakhovaya-Morozova-Mariukhnich is indeed seriously missed in the team. My feeling is that this injury rate is due to a fairly complex season in the national championship.

Marichev has a tough choice: Gamova has indeed started way too late (early September) and is genuinely out of condition. On the other hand, he knows well that w/out functional Gamova his team is not strong enough to get into medals at WCh anyway, so it may be reasonable to take the risk. If I were him, I would have done a mega-switch: Goncharova should play opp, Moroz should go to the bench and Gamova should move into the middle. Sounds a bit crazy but... Gamova is a better blocker than Moroz and can invent something attack-wise, which Moroz isn't capable of, even from an unusual position. Goncharova may be more confident if she is in the starting line-up. Now, I would have made Malykh receive, which she is perfectly capable of, she is not that tall. I would then use just one libero, with the second one being ready to substitute Kosheleva/Malykh if they fail. This may not work of course but it would be fun... and definitely better than Goncharova/Kosheleva in reception. Oh yes, and Moroz looks much better on the bench, w/out her glasses.

even as a pure OPP, goncharova continues to struggle. we've seen that last WGP. try her as an OH, then it's a serving party for russia's opponents. :gone:

What Manabe isn't saying is that a big percentage of FIVB events happen in Japan, so of course, travelling isn't really much of a problem for them. :cheesy: :D

watching the matches in this WCH make me cringe. such low level performance, especially on reception, for all these teams. for example, in WCH of 2006 and 2010, there were 6-7 teams w/c can compete for the gold medal and many of those teams have very high perfect reception percentage. not sure if women's volleyball is on decline but these players should learn how to play basic volleyball.

Ok that she might have problems with reception sometimes, but overall I think she can be better than Kim Hill, Kris Richards and Lichtman.

Kim Glass is not a "complete" player. she was the serving target of all teams on 2008 olympcs (having davis on her side didn't help either). however, she has a wicked float serve and if the set is perfect, she can definitely crush balls.

belgium is in the bottom but they definitely have shown character and they truly deserve to be in the top 6. except in their match with brazil, they stayed in contact with all their other opponents even though they were beaten 3-0 or 3-1. Congrats to these ladies! :drink:
