i think KYK & Logan Tom on their glory days are the best at that position. Mari did well on that department all through 2008. For MB I think Walewska was one of the greatest I have ever seen. I rewatched her old videos & am amazed at her connection with Fofao.

I would include Larson and Sokolova too! KYK was just amazing. She was the best. A legend. Unfortunately, her injuries have finally caught up to her and her scoring abilities went down. But she's still very useful because she can receive and defend well. This is where she outshines Zhu Ting.

Walewska, Liu Ya Nan, and Morozova where the last middles I can recall who do reception duties.

maybe because the game has changed? Serves are getting tougher, sets are getting faster. I dunno. But one thing i can agree with you when i watch the videos from the 80s & 90s, the excitement is different. Like everyone is on a role.

who do you guys think are the players that are good at both? Like good OH who can receive & spike well or MB who can hit and block well?

    That's a good point.

For OH, I can only name a few. Robinson and Gabi. There are a lot more for MBs though: Eda, Thaisa, Rasic, Koroleva.

I think this Receiving Libero vs Defending Libero is just another indication of how limited players have become today. The Libero is already a limited player but now, they have been even more limited to being specialist at one skill. Before, Middles will receive and defend at the backrow. Outside Hitters can both receive and spike well. Nowadays, we have either an attacking MB or Blocking MB and an Attacking OH or Defending OH. It's rare to find players who excel at both, specially at the OH position.

Still, I'd put Simge at Top 3 along with De Gennaro and Castillo. I think she's the best Turkish Libero ever next to Gulden.

Just finished watching IBK vs KGC. Lazareva did well! Also just realized Hang Song Yi was playing. She looked so different now from last time I saw her playing. I've read here that she switched to MB and only recognized her with her serve. Diouf looks so heavy and slow. It's like she barely lifts off the ground when she jumps. Lol. Good thing for her that she's super tall.

Well she scored 26 points with 38% efficiency in her first official match vs Heungkuk (0-3) in the KOVO Cup last month, and just yesterday she carried IBK to a 3-1 win with 38 points scored (47% efficiency), so I would say she's doing a fine job so far :D

Thanks! I only get to watch her game against Hyundai Hillstate a few months ago and she was terrible there and even got subbed at the third set. It's good for her that she's finally showing what she's capable of.

New Zealand, Thailand, and Vietnam are countries that also deserve respect and praise in combating the virus. New Zealand PM announced recently that they have beaten covid twice. Thailand is almost back to normal. Vietnam, despite being a third world country, has kept covid at bay. Their government probably knows their healthcare can't afford to take care of all the people so they have employed exemplary preventive measures to contain the virus.

    3 main factors:

    1. They are pretty rich country which can afford 'a loss' 6,000 people. Each death, hospital treatment is a cost for a country. (Please read what is 'value of life' in economics).

    2. They have pretty good medical care, so their system was able to handle that without any lockdowns.

    3. Country's density is 25 people/km2, so the virus doesn't spread so fast.

This is true. Plus, they have a government that's not corrupt and actually prioritizes the welfare the people. So unfortunately, not every country can be like Sweden.

After U17 European Championship, it's pretty obvious Fedorovtseva is a shoe-in for Senior NT (if not already). Fedorovtseva (16) is half Kosheleva's age (32). I think in a year's time, if she plays regularly, Arina can even be starter for NT in time for VNL and/or Olympics next year. Arina and Parubets should make a potent OH duo.

Kadochkina could make an excellent addition too. Although I'm not sure who should be Opposite among Parubets-Kadochkina-Fedorovtseva trio.

Just watched Italy x Russia semifinal and 2 sets of Turkey x Russia finals. I think this is the first to see a Russian team celebrating a point with too many high-pitched screams. Rather strange and funny.

Just saw this video on Saori Kimura during the 2012 Olympic Quarterfinals against China. She decided in the first set after a line shot went out that she wasn’t hitting line the rest of the day. Only from the back row would she hit straight. Think about that she had 33 points (32 kills, 1 block) and the majority of those kills went cross court and China could not stop it. Ebata also had 31 kills too. Oddly China was out blocked 11-10.

That was an intense match. London 2012 has quite the dramatic quarter finals. Japan with 2 players managing to score more than 33 points each; Russia losing an epic match against Brazil with Sokolova, Gamova, and Goncharova scoring more than 20 points each; and Italy shockingly lost to Korea.

I see nothing wrong with Terzic getting Vargas into Serbian NT. There seems to be no proper replacement for Mihajlovic and if he's unable to develop one, it makes sense to look somewhere else. It may sound like a desperate move to some but in the end, Serbia would benefit from it. Italy has done it, Russia has done it, and even Croatia too. A player as good as Vargas would be in any coach's radar and if Terzic didn't get her, somebody else will. It wouldn't be surprising if Guidetti would get Haak into Turkey NT (specially if Ebrar fails to live up to her potential).

I don't mind a bit of off-topic discussions so long as it's not about hateful discussions and doesn't take more than 10 pages. The topic about Adams was already there and people are just being spontaneous. And since she's brought up, people who have opinions about her took it as an opportunity to comment. After all, this is a discussion board where conversations can be free-flowing so I think there's no need to be too police-y against these kind of discussions (again, as long comments are not about hateful discussions).

I only know a handful of Serbian players so I won't be able to complete 5 names for some positions.

remembering that was a pause of 20 years of japan aiming 5th place and nothing more than that and then 3 good years with a wch and olympic medal and 2 years later a gp silver medal

Then japan don't achieve nothing at international stage but they love volleyball and continue organizing tournaments

I hope they still do because I think they're very good hosts.
