I know some of you criticize Kubiak but I also couldn't imagine better captain. He's annoying, ok. He's expressive, often shows some gestures that can be received badly, provokes. He doesn't do anything without a reason. If someone pisses him off at the net, he gives tiit for tat. AndGermans weren't saints Franciscans. At the top of everything he does, he always does everything for his team. I can't imagine anyone more big-hearted than him. And in Poland everyone knows it, he is simply loved exactly as he is. In the end, believe me, he grew up and shows full respect for any opponent he faces. But he would do anything only to help the team even if it's equal to throwing sb off balance. Still a warrior, big hero, smart player. Nothing more to add but great personality.

honestly, I don't know how anyone can dislike Kubiak at this point. I seriously think that people are so used to complaining about him, that they haven't notice what man he became. He just grew up so much, since he became the captain. And honestly, I think he is the best captain we've ever had (and it's me who is saying that, me who will always put Winiarski above everybody  ). He just NEVER gave up, honestly, I don't remember one single match, where he stop fighting and stop believing before the last whistle. When all of our primabalerinas during tough match pray for the end of it, he is the one who gives them a sign to fight. I cannot even count how many matches he saved for us this past few years. Michal Kubiak is THE captain. Michal Kubiak is what volleyball is about. He cried in Japan this year and he cried yesterday too. He gives us his heart and this is why we love him

He is not criminal like Ngapeth, he is not psycho like Spirydonow, he just cares to much.

before the match I said, that it all depends on Kubiak, if he is able to put the team together, get through them and make them angry about everything what happened this year (including one set missing in Japan and two missing points with France) instead of being dissapointed and resigned. Somehow he made it. It's because of him, the hell didn't freeze over and I don't have to live in reality where Poland is not going to OG

Volleyball God seems to hate us so much this year, but we are still alive and I'm so glad, I cannot even describe it. As Kurek said "apparently Rio doesn't want us, but we will make it anyway.". It's not so easy to defeat Poland, Mr. Garca and Universe, you should know better :super:

it would've been strange for a non-volleyball nation like Germany, regardless of how well they played or whether they could reach their WCH 2014 form, to take Poland's (or Serbia's, or Bulgaria's) place in Rio

Germany is one of my favorite teams (I don't really know why) and if I wasn't crying with emotions after the match, I would feel horrible for them. But seriously, I cannot even imagine the mourning and sarrow in Poland, if they lost. My facebook went literally crazy during and after this match. I think t's only comparable with German national football team not qualifing to WCh...

I feel horrible for the players though. This system is absolute disaster and this mess in FIVB just HAS TO stop. (Not even mentioning that till now Poland played 16 matches for OG qualification, won 13 of them and still didn't qualify)

    Congratulation, Russia! :flower:

I don't have ready stats but the empirical evidence shows that men are by far the larger margin of economic migrants. They go to Europe and spend years working while they send a large proportion of their salaries home to their families. When they become well-off in their host countries they often come back with their savings and build better lives at home. Their family and children are often sheltered by the whole village which can have most of its young males hustling abroad. This is the story with most immigrants from 3rd world countries and even from the more deprived European countries.

ok, but we really need to distinguish refugees from economic migrants here. I agree that men dominate in the group of economic migrants, in the group of refugees it's complete opposite though and it's exactly because of what you call - gender roles. In the country where's the real war men either fight and die, either protect their families. In typical mind of typical man the thought of leaving his wife and children on the war to escape never even borns. That's why I asked for your sources, leaving family in rather save place to get higher social status is one thing, but leaving familycompletely defenceless on the war to save yourself is another

I read an article few days ago about IIWW refugees and it said that in the group of war migration women and children represent more than 70% of migrants and it's typical for war migration.

But it doesn't matter actually if 70-80% of all refugees are male. Or Syrians. Or what percentage of them is ISIS and what's not. It's not a question of whose fault this is. This is a simple question of humanity. You can't lower down and dehumanise a group that has travelled more than a continent (mostly on foot!) and risked their lives multiple times along the way to merely being a group of economic opportunists. Give them a helping hand, even if it costs you a bit of your welfare and you can be assured that you'll reap the rewards in the future!

I agree that they should be helped somehow, but politics doesn't work like that, but it's strictly connected to geopolitics and international relationships. The situation is not as black and white as many present it. The point is that Germany without second thought made a mess (which Merkel admitted BTW) and expect "european solidarity" from everybody while never showing this solidarity to anyone if it's not in its interest. More than that Martin Shulz, President of the European Parliament threats Middle Europe that EU may "use the force" to make Middle Europe country oblige, which itself is scandalous enough (good enough that he didn't concretised what kind of force they will use - only guns or also tanks). All of this unfortunatelly leads to radicalisation of social moods and revival of nationalist movements in Europe. Europe we know is ceasing to exist...

this is really not simple discussion between "make love, not war, we love you all, come to us" and "I hate these stupid Muslims"

Nowakowski is a good player, better than any Italian MBs. Pay attention pal, some day you may regrets this era with Nowakosky and miss him, just like here in Italy we are missing Mastrangelo and Fei even if 10 years ago we used to say "Fei and Mastrangelo are weak, let's miss Gardini and Giani"

oh, you're probably right, but still... when Nowakowski serves in the end of the set, I don't even have to watch it to know how it will end. I'm so used to complaining about him, that I will probably miss, him, when he retires or something. My father and I, we joke that keeping Nowakowski on the court is special tactics - when he is there, the team feels like they play in five and then when Możdżonek comes in and replace Nowakowski, the team is in shock and feels like they play in seven, so they win

    @ Bartek :

"Refugee" implies that they're not really refugees and they're just claiming that status to come and take money and housing. I really don't think they can be blamed. It's everyone's right to move where they want. A lot of our more developed societies are part of the reason they're in the situation they are. I'm not saying this is our place in society to help them as we're to blame, but as humans we should all do our bit. There is plenty of room in the countries to take these people in, and more people are taken in from surrounding countries than European countries anyway. Anyone can be linked to isis but they're an extremely small minority. I believe they all deserve a chance, everyone does. They're all innocent until proven otherwise. Believe me, as soon as they're proven otherwise my sympathy takes a dramatic fall, but I really see that anyone who wants to better their lives can start that wherever they so want.

But well, we will see how all these situations will end up and what sort of problems we will have to face within next 5-10 years. I'd like to keep our christian-catholic culture.

as much as I agree that it's our humain responsibility to help people who escape from the war, if we agree that big part of "refugees" are economical immigrants, I have two things for you

    1) it's proven again and again that acceptance of economical immigrants is NOT the way to reduce world poverty. On the contrary - people who imigrates are usually and fundamentally the most educated ones, the bravest ones and the strongest ones, so by accepting them, we prevent them from helping their own country to develop. The only way to help poor countries is to help them INSIDE of their countries. And surprise, surprise not by sending them food (because in that way, by giving people food for free, we destroy "country economy" or rather say local farmers) but by giving them technology and know-how.

Besides there's almost 1,5 billion people living in extreme poverty (less than 1,25$ and day) if we want to help them and welcome them in Europe, we should better start to exterminate ourselves.

    2) please watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj69XxunTo8

Have you been to Syria to talk like that? Have you seen pictures of the
place? These people are continuosly bombed by their government, ISIS and
    other rebels for years now

I haven't been in Syria, I have friends from Syria and I know what I'm talking about. I agree that we should help refugees, it doesn't change the fact that at least half of these people are NOT from Syria, but from another (poor) countries and they are using the opportunity and Merkel's complete idiocy to get to "better world". I don't see how saying the truth makes me xenophobic and racist

Men are historically the bigger proportion of refugees due to social and
(arguably) biological reasons. But I still don't believe your data.
Eurostat will never report an estimate with suge a huge 10% margin.

It wasn't Eurostat that gave such a margin, I gave such a huge margin, because I didn't remember exact data, I cannot find this article right now, I found UNHCR one - 70% of men. I would appreciate if you gave me your source of "men are historically the bigger proportion of refugees", because I've been told and I've read the complete opposite (no irony here, I will be glad to see different appoach to this, because it's absolutely incomprehensible and immaginable to me that my dad leaves me, my mom and sister on the war and escapes himself, and from my grandparents' stories about the past I know that it was completely unthinkable during II WW too.

Why do you say so? Beniek is a big talent (maybe with Lisinac the best MB of the future), Piano is a great blocker (one of the best ones), but weak in attack. Why girlish? What do you mean?

oh, Beniek is a sunshine (and he looks like little sweet squirrel). Bieniek and Lemanski (who plays in starting six of AZS Warszawa and in junior NT) are our two big hopes to finally have normal MBs in NT and get rid of Nowakowski forever and soon

The scariest is in all films this people are mostly strong, young men.

it's not only on the pictures. According to Eurostat 70-80% of these people are men under 40. Women and children are left behind on the war (just joking, everybody sane knows that huge majority of these people hasn't even seen a war)

I must say it's pretty hysterical, that it's Germany of all countries, who keeps reving about "european solidarity" with a newspeak as taken from Orwell. You wanna know where is european solidarity? It's drowned at the bottom of the Baltic Sea and its name is "Nordic Stream". It has also younger brother and it's called "NATO bases".

Oh yes, I understood it a bit wrongly. Kubiak is a clown but in my eyes his behaviour is not helpful. I will not forget his red card during match against Brazil during WCH - we could lost it because of him. Full of nonsense. Also when I heard (real reason) how he broke his fingers last summer... during Satruday's match with Iran we could see that he did not change too much.

we would have to agree to disagree then :wavy: What exactly did he do on Saturday? Marouf was talking, so him as captain was listening  So what that he was doing it in funny way and probably managed to pi*ss him off? How did it harm OUR team? If anythin it gave them a signal to stop crying and start to fight. Sorry, but I don't care about opponent's mood... I would start to care if he ruins the atmosphere in OUR team and pi*ss Bieniek off

yes, situation from last WCh was one of very few, when we risk somthing because of him, there's much more of situations where his bahavior and warrior soul has helped us to turn the tide of the match and win it. Right now he is the only one there who is able to shout at these balerinas and wake them up when it's needed

    Completely forgot about Serbia :wall:

Do we have any chance of FIVB letting a further European team into the final world qualifier in case, say, Russia doesn't make it? (the one with NA 3rd, SA 3rd, A 2nd and 3rd?) This tournament is beyond ridiculous. Tunisia, Cameroon, Cuba and Colombia :aww:

Colombia will be "asked" to resign.

that wouldn't be anything new after all

Good to hear that I am not alone with this kind of opinion about Kubiak. He is good player but sometimes really harmful for the team.

on the contrary, he is doing great, at least lately,. And I think this is what bella meant.

Michal changed a lot (after he became a father and nees to change diapers) after he became the captain. He improved as a volleyball player, but also his behavior on the court changed drastically. If he influences the team during the match (and as I predict and from what I saw also outside the court) it's always positive influence. He is not destructive anymore (although it was always like that when it comes to NT, he never harmed the national team, he was the one who was making them to get up from their knees and start fighting)

this is actually IMHO the difference between Kubiak and players like Ngapeth. Michal is not destructive for the team, when something goes wrong.

Absolutely, and this is something the FIVB should be ashamed about forever. Brazil is getting a cakewalk to the gold medal AND some big team will not be going to Rio because of it. All of my best wishes to European teams, but I think it's inevitable that some big ones will not qualify. Imagine the Olympic games without Russia, or without Italy, it's not such a remote possibility at all. You fail the European qualification tournament (where fail means losing the semifinal and the 3rd place final) and everything is over. But there will be two African teams and maybe two or three South Americans. Great job!

Someone here on the forums has posted that the FIVB receives the majority of its money from tv rights paid by Poland, Italy, Japan and Russia. What's going to happen if one or more of these teams are not at the games?

I don't think it's the way to give Brasil cakewalk to gold medal, but situation is indeed dramatic. Talking from Polish perspective, we won WCh last year and yes, we started WC quite well, but it's enough for us to lose ONE match on this tournament and then two in EQ and we will watch Rio in TV. How ridiculous and unfair is that? :wall:

I don't want to even think about it. It would be a catastrophe...

it's high time to make qualifications rules clear, fair and constant. Who needs WC? Aside from Japan of course? WCh and continental champions should get olimpic qualification automatically. The rest would fight in one or two world qualification tournament, where team would qualify according to FIVB ranking, And that's it. Representation from each continent would be assured, but the rest would depend only on team level

It is because so far Russian isn't as good as we expect.
My prediction is Poland will win all of their matches.Russia will lose one of the USA and Italy.
So it will be Poland 11-0 , Russia 9-2 , USA 10-1 or 9-2 , Italy 9-2 or 8-3 , USA is winning without giving many sets against other 8 teams so they will have better set ratio.
But this is just prediction of course there are many things that can change the score like great individual plays, choke factor etc.

that's quite a prediction for Poland. While I would love it happened, USA is the favorite of the match with us.

The Poland situation right now seems to be the best though, we started great, I hope it will last till the end :drink:

I still think two of three wins in "big four" will probably be "a must" for qualification

and remember it's almost impossible that Iran or Argentine won't make some surprises with the favorites

BTW, as I remember we play the last match with Italy. I can be a funny one. If one of the team was already out of the game, they won't fight that much, will they?

I think Italy-USA match will determine the fate of the tournament. If USA wins this match , even two defeats will be enough for them to qualify.

can I ask why? Even if we assume that they won't loose any points with theoretically weaker teams, it's still at least possible that they will loose to Poland and Russia, while Italy and Poland win everything (aside from the looser of Pol/It)...

there are four candidates for two spots here: USA, Italy, Poland and Russia ( If Argentine or Iran qualifies, it would be a surprise, IMHO), and winning one of three matches with favorites will probably not be enough.

talking about France and Bulgaria and their place in world volleyball... I think it yet again depends on what we understand by "top team", both Bulgaria and France belongs to top ten IMHO, not so much to top five though, at leats at the moment. What is funny, in this final we had two great teams, which I always consider as such, but which were always lacking ability to win (of course not single matches, but tournaments etc.), so maybe the only way for France to break the course was to meet with Bulgaria, who also has such a problem

when it comes to France, considering that Poland, Italy and Russia will focus on WC this year, I think they will be main favorite for ECh. There is huge oportunity for France, Germany and Bulgaria here. ECh is not main tournament for Poland, (and Italy and Russia). Antiga hardly even mention it in interviews. I haven't seen any of our boys talking about it. They all about WC. I am not even sure if they will all go to ECh, or Antiga gives them some break, IDK. France, Bulgaria and Germany have almost three months for peaceful preparation and I would be surprise if one of them didn't take the title thi year. My bet is on France though...

about Bulgaria, I think, they definitely need new coach, preferebly foreign one, who wouldn't care about federation arrangements (if I understand Bulgarian problems right, they are a lot of like us before Lozano's era) and would make Bulgaria play more modern volleyball. Because, no offence, they play pretty archaically right now (but truth to be told, I haven't seen a lot of them this year)

meanwhile... USA team got stomach flu (poor, poor, poor boys - all my love goes to you) and Polish team has arrived in Rio today, where unfortunatelly they had some organisation problem with rooms, they have been waiting for rooms for 8 hours. BUT at least they don't have stomach flu... :win:

many others similar voting of even 1000 people

wow! That's huge part of 38 mln...

you are so shameful without respect to anyone

clearly, we can all see who has no respect for other opinions here, It's clearly me

Russians offered him 1 mln euro to get Russian passport and he refused.

MAYBE because Russia PROBABLY won't give him EU passport?

coming back to WL... USA welcomed by Polish veterans holding flags, because of their national holiday :flower:

Regarding France. You used also the word "shit" even if not exactly as an insult against France, anyway we are not in pub in which we drink beer together and talk about sport, therefore it's disturbing to write dirty words like that. By the way, everything it's ok pal :drink:

this was not an insult at all, I hope it was clear. I love France, and it's the last team I would ever offend.

    Quote

Regarding Leon. I think you're strict Majka. I agree regarding the
marriage, but after 2 or 3 years for me it's ok, the kids and the home
in Poland are not so relevant.

the problem here is that Leon is getting citizenship even without mariage. Also without living here (he does not live in Poland, otherwise he would have extremely long way for work, you guys), without family, without knowledge of Polish language, culture, tradition. Application is already on President's table for no good reason.

and I would be even ok with Leon getting Polish passport because we should give these guys all the help we can (including EU passport and all law facilities), but national team is "national" for reason and he should not play in it until he feels somehow connected with Poland. And talking about his great "emotional connection with Poland' is simply ridiculous right now.

in spite of what my Polish friend says here, Polish fans are not so much happy about it, majority of Polish volleybal forums is rather against it. Well, at least I'm not hypocrite like some Polish who were protesting against Juanto in Italy NT, but are all for Leon in ours, while Leon's situation connot even compare with Juanto's.

Anyway, there's absolutely no way for Leon to play for Poland in Rio, because it's FIVB decision and there's absolutely no way Brasilians and Italians agree with Leon-Kurek-Mika in one team for Olympic if it's not theirs:lol:

I'm sorry for her, Mamdani and all volleyball forum users, it's provocative account, I doubt she is Polish and we have no proofs she is. As I said about 80% of voting whether you want Leon said yes so we shouldn't care.
France is a great team and I doubt Polish fan would say like this about a team from country that comes coaches of our NT Antiga&Blain and half of French NT players in our domestic league.

yes, because saying that France should have been among the best teams in the world for years right now and they are not only because of their repeated, unexplained, idiotic defeats in important matches is extremely offensive :aww:

is there any French here? You really feel offended?

Aside from the fact that your opinions regarding Leon are anachronistic in the globalization Era (of course he has to marry a Polish girl and wait 2,3 years, but after that he deserves to play, why not?)

right now, Leon has absolutely nothing in common with Poland. He doesn't live here, he doesn't have family here, he doesn't work here, he doesn't pay taxes here, he doesn't speak Polish at all and his passport application is alrwady on President's table ready to be signed. Why? Because he dates Polish girl and has been living here for two months? You reallt think I'm anachronistic for not agreeing with that? If so, I can be anachronistic thank you very much.

I never say that he should never play for Poland. I said that he should not play for Poland if his only connection to Poland is his manager. If he marries Polish girl, his kids go to Polish school, he learns Polish, lives in Poland - I have nothing against is. Otherwise - LET'S JUST CANCEL NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS, because the very concept of nation i's anachronistic

    Quote

I actually don't understand why do you express your concepts about
France by using dirty words. That's disrespectful. Would you like if I
start to call Polish team of 80s and 90s a "shitty" team (sorry) because
it was very weak? We all can criticize everybody and every teams, but
we should bring respect in my opinion.

sorry, this is not what I meant at all. The only "dirty" word I used was "idiotic" and it wasn't mean to be mean at all. Actually I call Polish NT "these idiots" all the time, it's said with affection :wavy: Because it's a bit idiotic, that France always looses in important matches, it has to be extremely frustrating and I suppose "idiotic" is the lightest word that French fans use after such a defeats. I love French team and I wish them all the good luck.

If Leon was only solid our NT wouldn't be interested. Leon is a Messi of volleyball who is gonna dominate all volleyball world. He's not Achrem, he's not Gladyr, he's not Tichacek or any other naturalized Polish average player.

let's just take all the best players in the world. We can give EU passport to Leon, maybe we can give something to Lucas and Anderson too? Pretty girlfriends? Beach house? That would be great :obey: :obey: And we wouldn't have to deal with Nowakowski anymore. That's good enough reason

you're right, it's me, who is an idiot here. As Katar in the last handball championship has shown, we can take whoever we wants until he is good enough for us and we have enough to offer. "National" in "national team" is only there for fun

I agree with rugby here. France is a great team, no question about it, but the score in their group could be scrutinized further as they played against weaker teams. We'll see about that French team when they come to Bulgaria next week. Also, do not send the Canadians home just yet. Bulgaria is capable of beating Argentina twice. Canada was unlucky with that faulty ref's action in Argentina and at some point set higher priority on other tournaments because they didn't use their full squad in all WL matches. I wrote after the second week that Canada should have no problems to reach the Div. II finals with this game and they surely wouldn't need to wait till the last round had they used all key players in the last weeks.

On the other side, I am extremely glad no one mentions Bulgaria as a team that can return to Division I. Surprisingly, people ignore even the fact that we host the tournament next weekend. We've had great results as underdogs, so I wish it stays the same and everyone focuses on France :)

EDIT Everybody and their dogs know that they should be one of the best team in the world, but then decisive moment comes, Rouzier gets green with nervousness and it all goes to shit. I honestly think this French fuss is about everybody being tired of them being "almost" there, so we are like "oh for God sake, win sth already". I like them, because they remind me of what Polish team used to be.

also - they are still in second division just because one match and everyone agree, that France would most probably do better than Australia this year.

but I agree, that Bulgaria has a pretty good chance too, especially at home (on the other hand, do I remember correctly that it was Bulgaria that once had actual problem with playing home and it wasn't helping them at all? Or it wasn't Bulgaria, I don't remember)
