Looks like the reason why NEC didn't participate in the summer league was because they are scheduled to play at the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in Oskemen, Kazakhstan from July 11-18th. AVC, Wikipedia

    • KOVO has decided to delay the start of 2018/2019 season for the women. This is due to the Women's World Championship not finishing until October 20th. The women new start date for the women's competition will be on October 22nd whilst the men's competition will start on October 13th.

Also, KOVO has decided to change the FA rules to make the trade easier and fairer for the players. Players who qualified for FA status were only able to talk to their current team for a month, whilst they could only talk with other teams for one week. KOVO will now allow the FA players to freely negotiate with all teams.

    * 1st time in senior NT

    - 3 high school students PARK Eun-Jin, LEE Ju-Ah, JUNG Ho-Young have been named in the team with the aim of letting them gain some experience. Eun-Jin has already played with the senior team during the VNL, whilst Ju-Ah and Ho-Young recent played at the Asian U19 Championship. Like Eun-Jin, the Korean see Ju-Ah as another future prospect for the MB position, both will most likely to be among the top 3 draft picks later this year. Regarding Ho-Young, I haven't seen enough from her at the recent Asian U19 Championship to warrant the hype coming from the Korean media previously about her. However, the Korean head coach CHA Hae-Won sees her as an important element in helping KYK combat against the height advantage of the other nations.

    - IBK Altos OP KIM Hee-Jin is ruled out due to injury to her elbow and shoulder after the VNL.

    - Hyundai E&C OH Hwang Min-Kyoung replaced Hee-Jin in the team which allows the team to play PARK Jeong-Ah as a non-receiving OH/OP.

I guess there are some weird rules concerning the matches, like they only play for an hour or something. And get different points for how quickly they win, or something.

Anyway, it's already match #2 time. The warmups I mentioned were after the first set of matches. Some teams play consecutive matches--that confused me as well.

This is just for hardcore knuckleheads. They have a camera that zooms in on players but the 'court' camera is three courts away from court #4. I'm not sure I'm hardcore or knuckle-headed enough

You can see the summer league competition summary here http://www.vleague.or.jp/2018sl/

    Apparently it 3 points for a 2-0 win, 2 points for a 2-1 win, 1 point for a 1-2 loss, and 0 points for a 0-2 loss.

It seems that on the 1st day of the Western Conference, all the group matches are played so that each team will play with the other 2 teams in their group on the same day (except for group D which only have 2 teams). That is why you are seeing some of the teams playing consecutive matches.

Sarina Koga cut from Japanese roster for week 4

I don't want to overreact, but she went from untouchable -> to the bench -> to Home in three weeks. This is bad for her.

Maybe not. Maybe she has a small injury or a family matter.

Actually, Koga is in Thailand with the rest of the team, so there is a chance that she will return in week 5.
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=umAkjZaa7jA Cr: SMMTVHD @ YT

Korea the same roster as in 3 week?

With the return of KYK and their 2 senior MBs Kim Su-Ji and Yang Hyo-Jin, the Korean team for week 4 in Thailand will most like be the same as week 1 & 2. The Korean team for week 5 will most like be the same as in week 3 and if not then it will be just one change to one of the younger players.

The F6 teams will most likely consist of China (host) and the current top 4 teams of USA, Brazil, Serbia and Netherlands. The last spot in the F6 will be a battle between Turkey (5th - 6w, 3l, 19pts), Russia (6th - 6w, 3l, 17pts) and Italy (7th - 4w, 5l, 14pts).

Between these 3 teams in week 4, Turkey overall will have the easier pool matches (Japan, Thailand, and Korea) compare to the other two teams whilst Russia is in week 4 Pool of Death #1 (USA, China, and Brazil) and Italy is in the Pool of Death #2 (Serbia, Netherlands, and Dominican Rep.).

In week 5, Russia will have overall the easier pool matches (Dominican Rep., Poland, and Japan), next is Italy's pool matches (Thailand, Belgium, and Brazil), and finally Turkey with the hardest overall pool matches (Netherlands, Germany, and China).

IMO, if each team starts with their strongest players and there are no upsets, then the favourite out of these three teams to make it to the F6 would be a 2 horses race between Turkey and Russia, with Turkey advancing. I'm sure most of you will agree to the following as likely to occur:

Week 4 - Turkey will have a great chance to win all 3 matches; Russia, on the other hand, might possibly lose all 3 pool matches; and Italy with 1 win & 2 losses.

Week 5 - Russia has a very good chance of winning all 3 matches; Italy with 2 wins & 1 loss; and Turkey winning 1 match and losing the other 2.

If my assumptions are correct, then Turkey will be the most likely to make the Finals with 10 wins & 5 losses, whilst Russia will be on 9 wins & 6 losses, and Italy with 7 wins & 8 losses. One unexpected loss or win can change which team goes to the finals.

Korean roster for the 3rd week in Apeldoorn (Netherlands):

    • S: 5. LEE Hyo-Hee, 6. LEE Na-Yeon, 19. LEE Da-Yeong
    • OP: 1. NA Hyun-Soo, 4. KIM Hee-Jin
    • OH: 2. KIM Ju-Hyang, 13. PARK Jeong-Ah, 15. KANG So-Hwi, 17. LEE Jae-Yeong, 18. YOO Seo-Yeun
    • MB: 9. JEONG Sun-Ah, 25. PARK Eun-Jin
    • Li: 8. YIM Myung-Ok, 20. NA Hyun-Jung

MB 12. KIM Chae-Yeon travelled with the team but missed out due to an abdominal muscle injury.

As previously mentioned OH 10. KIM Yeon-Koung, MB 11. KIM Su-Ji, and MB 14. YANG Hyo-Jin has been rested for this week. Cha Hae-Won will give the younger players a chance to play this week.

My guess on the most likely starting line-up:

    • Attacking from the sides will be 13. PARK Jeong-Ah and 15. KANG SO-Hwi, and 17. LEE Jae-Yeong
(Jeong-Ah and So-Hwi, one will be OH whilst the other will be OP).

    • In the middle, 4. KIM Hee-Jin and 25. PARK Eun-Jin
(A lot of expectation on Eun-Jin as the future MB for the Korean NT and she hasn't even gone pro yet).

    • Setter will be 19. LEE Da-Yeong
(Still need to gain more experience and improve, most likely led the NT at Tokyo in 2020 as Lee Hyo-Hee will be 40 y.o. by then).

    • And libero 8. YIM Myung-Ok
(I personally prefer 20. NA Hyun-Jung in the libero position, she just seems quicker).

From the 2nd week roster 19. Mari Horikawa [OPP] is out and sitenoise's gf 24. Aika Akutagawa [MB] come back in.

    @theloneracer
    Nabeya is injured.

Thanks, I guess it's not a serious injury if she is on the roster but can anyone tell me what injury she suffered?
Also, with Miyu Nagaoka, maybe it is just a case of her lacking match fitness.

Japanese roster for the 3rd week in Hong Kong, China:

    • S: 10. Koyomi Tominaga, 22. Kanami Tashiro
    • OH/OPP: 2. Sarina Koga, 4. Risa Shinnabe, 7. Yuki Ishii, 8. Mami Uchiseto, 20. Arisa Inoue, 21 Ai Kurogo

From the 2nd week roster 19. Mari Horikawa [OPP] is out and 24. Aika Akutagawa [MB] come back in.

So after week 2 of 5 there are five teams with 5 to 1 victories occupying the qualification berths now: USA, Serbia, Brazil, Turkey and Netherlands would attend hosts China in Nanjing in finals, if they can hold them. Main contenders are now Russia and South Korea with 4 to 2 victories each so far.

You can forget about South Korea. KYK, Yang Hyo-Jin and Kim Su-Ji will not be playing in week 3 & 5. The defeat to Belgium and Italy might have cost them the chance at making the finals.

The core of the team from 2017 FIVB Girls' U18 World Championship remains. The most notable players on the team are No. 2 LEE Ju-Ah (MB), No. 18 PARK Hye-Min (OH) and No. 11 JUNG Ho-Young (OP). LEE Ju-Ah and PARK Hye-Min were awarded Best Middle Blocker and Best Outside Hitter respectively at 2017 Asian Girls' U18 Volleyball Championship in Chongqing, China. Also, both players along with PARK Eun-Jin and NA Hyun-Soo (who both recently debuted with the Senior Women NT) will be highly sought after by the V-League teams at this year Draft. JUNG Ho-Young who is currently 16 y.o. and 189 cm tall has been labelled by the Korean media as the next KYK. IMO she still has a lot of things to learn before she comes anywhere near KYK but on the plus side still have time to learn and develop. Also, this will be JUNG Ho-Young second time at the Asian U19 Championship as she was apart of the 2016 team at the age of 14 only.

She has since announced that she will be retiring from the indoor version and will switch to beach volleyball with the goal of making the Asian Game later this year.
