And I forgot to say. In case USA gets the gold, I strongly belive that JWO is a serious candidate for being named MVP. We all know that it seldom happens that a libero gets this award in a major tournament (if Im not wrong, Serginho is the only one), but JWO is having a leading role in the game of her team. She has been the most consistent player for USA in all the matches, even when they played really bad (swept against Russia and messy 5 sets against Italy).

I think choosing an MVP involves some “political” stuff too. For example, if USA wins the gold, I think Larson is a serious contender for the MVP award due to everything she represents for volleyball. It is not very usual to hand over MVP awards to liberos, and I doubt they’ll give it to JWO as this is her first NT season playing as starter. Serginho and Sano received MCP awards in the past but well… they were Serginho and Sano, icons of their NTs.

I really understand that people are provoked by the constant presentation of nonsense by well-known irrational individuals, but why the disparagement of European teams and European Championship has become completely normal, popular and even desirable?

It seems like you (in general) are using a situation to express certain frustrations, completely unnecessary.

Sorry, but I don't think that's the case. Most of us are only contesting and answering the nonsensical replies in this forum. A few days back, people saying that Turkey is better than Korea despite losing to Korea in the quarterfinals. Also, Turkey was going to perform better against Brazil/Russia because they were not very focused to play against a "weak" team. Today we have people saying that Italy and Serbia still are the best teams in the world despite their poor performances in the OG so far.

The paradox here is that the "best teams" never managed to win an OG, and the best team is ALWAYS the one that manages to win, plain and simple.. European users overemphasise their wins at the regional level but at the same time feels so frustrated that their teams failed to win the OGs. I am not saying that European teams are not good or that their trophies are not important. I know getting a gold medal in the EC is not an easy task, but the way certain affirmations are shared in this forum made us think that there's no good volleyball out of Europe when in fact non-European teams have been dominating the main volleyball competition - the OGs - for decades. The last time a European team won the OG was in 1988 with USSR, and it's super questionable to consider them as "Europe" back then.

What I think is that we must stop labelling teams and acknowledge that you cannot be the "best team" in the world (or in a competition as I prefer to say) if you don't actually win the championship. Teams can have a better roster when we consider players individually, but this does not mean they have the best teams - those are two completely different things.

If any of my jokes have offended any of you for being an European user, I am sorry about that! I was just joking around to cope with the fact that I can't anymore with the tones of nonsensical comments I have to read here.

We need a new medal system ASAP to fit the narrative, please.

I suggest an emerald medal for the best team in the world that flopped too hard in the OG, a turquoise medal for the 2nd best that played poorly but always win something in the best championship in the world - the European one -, and a rubine medal for your favourite team.

Can I forward this to FIVB? Will the delusional people here approve this new system? Looking forward to hearing back from you. :dance6:

France vs Russia in the final. Two of the teams I like the least, unfortunately. But congrats to them anyway - they deserved this considering their performance in quarterfinals and semifinals.

Stupid pandemic really messed things up - I'm sure ALL teams would've been more primed and ready to go had the games been held last year. Wouldn't surprise me if some players also thrive and feed off of a live audience which of course they couldn't have this year. Ugh!

I think Brazil would’ve looked worse last year because Fe Garay had a weak 19/20 club season.

Also, forgot to mention that I’ll make a compilation video of Thales’ defenses in this Olympic Games. The video is probably about 30 seconds long (replays included). Looking forward to sharing it with you guys. :gone:

I’ll try to get some sleep now

Except for Goncharova who’s already flying back home according to her last IG story.

Russia deserved this win, what an amazing performance by Mikhaylov. He’s very impressive, even more impressive if we consider that he has been on the run for years already.

I feel very sorry it ended up this way for Brazil, especially because of the third set. I think Russia did a very strong match, but I cannot not mention that Bruno, as it happened through the whole season, was very imprecise, and we had no better option because inexplicably William wasn’t there. About Wallace: out of shape, not in his peak and always with a bad attitude. Please leave.
