the middles here did their job well i thought. not the flashiest, but contributed enough.
what'll be the date of birth cut off for U19? the next Yuan (Wang Aoqian) is a 2007 and only a year older than this group.

Seems mostly okay for me but there seems to be two different streams. This one is better for me. The other one isn't necessarily laggy but seems to suffer from what I would call a bad frame rate

the rally at 24-24 with defense specialist Feng Linlin making a couple big defensive plays was what gave China u17 the fire to finish the set.
Huang has potential, long and lanky with springs in her jump. passing is a work in progress.

I'm giving Miss Eastern Zonal Award to Wang Aoqian. There was a moment when they were handing out those mascot dolls. I guess Li Chenxuan knew Aoqian wasn't going to be happy with a red one, so as soon as Aoqian received hers Chenxuan immediately offered her her blue one and Aoqian gave Chenxuan the red one. Maybe something going on there I didn't understand but it was still cute af
I have high hopes for Wang Aoqian!
Similarly, during the VNL finals in Thailand when they were giving the elephant dolls. I think it was Italy when the helper would walk down the line of players, and they were each picking one, eventually the tray got limited selection and whoever was towards the end got stuck with what was left. Then another helped came with a full tray of other colors and their eyes lit up as they exchanged for colors they wanted. lol.

Dong has to share OH spot with Guo Xiangling and Li Chen Xuan, it would good if all three could start, perhaps with Dong as opposite. Not saying Fan Boning is inept, in fact she's a much improved player compared to her performance in the u20 Asian event, but somehow you feel Dong is more effective in handling OOS balls
They could also try Guo as a receiving opposite and keep Li and Dong on the outside. Heck a four passing system including those three and the libero will still lead to overpasses and errors. Lol. Need more practice with that skill.

I'd give the setter mad props for running all over heck and still popping it up to where someone could whack it. Her sets were high enough, and she basically put the ball in the same place whether in or out of system. Thought she fed the middles pretty well, too. The problem is when anyone but her gets second contact. There were some typical U20 defensive question marks but I think the firepower is there to compensate for them. My fave of the pins is #2 Dong, but they all score about the same (kudos to the setter for that, too)
I love Dong! Her hairstyle reminds of that of the 80s. Like a tomboy mullet cut, in a good way.

I wonder why diGiorgi did not consider Mosca.
Mosca had a recent shoulder injury which is why Sanguinetti made the final roster instead.

Both Li Chenxuan and Dong Yuhan have some pretty strong serves. If they can work on their passing and consistency in attack, they will be good prospects for the NT.
Gao Yi and Yang Hanyu aren't making progress and should be cut after Paris 2024. They should get Wang Wenhan, Wan Ziyue, Zeng Jieya, and Wang Aoqian experience with the B Team to speed up their development.
I think the next best setter China should be focusing on training is Xie Shengyu. She's got potential but needs more playing time to overtake Xu Xiaoting.

This years VNL was probably one of the weakest ones because of olympic season. If we look at last years champion too they had Ebrar (who was playing OH for the first time) and Derya (who could not pass to save her life) win gold. The success is more of a team effort.
In the games that actually matter soon I have question marks about Sylla, Bosetti and Degradi. I don’t think any of them are better than Pietrini. Sylla has some good moments from time to time but she is not that impressive to me when it matters the most.
It’s no doubt that Italy’s weakest position is OH compared to the other positions that are all world class, especially with Pietrini out.
Sylla > Pietrini 100%
You can argue about the other two, but Sylla is holding down the fort as one of Italy's stable outsides.

That rotation won the VNL and both OHs ranked among the best attackers of the tournament.
People love to trash talked my girl Sylla but when she puts on the blue shirt she almost always delivers. Degradi is playing well and Cate is a good alternative too. Degradi is a good back row sub and passes well.
Pietrini would've been on the team if she hasn't injured but it is what it is.
I feel like the people that trash talk Sylla only remember the old her and don't give enough credit to the current player she is and all the work she's done to improve. She's been making solid strides into one of the top outsides that are well rounded.

Fan Po-ning played as a MB in Set 3 and "MB1" - spike at Position 2 ...

She played as a true MB in 2022 U18 ACH.
I don't get the fascination with Fan Poning.
I know she's still young and can make improvements, but she's doesn't swing that well like others the same age as her and sometimes she looks awkward/confused on the court. Moving her around position to position from OH to OP to MB also isn't helping make her progress smooth.

I don't even follow the men's game but Pool B is stupid. Aren't those like the top 3 teams in the world? Screw FIVB and their new system.
The draw was,
Seeded Teams: France, Poland, Japan
Pot 1: Slovenia, Italy, USA
Pot 2: Brazil, Argentina, Canada
Pot 3: Serbia, Germany, Egypt
Egypt is the obvious weakest, but they beat Japan in five sets at olympic qualifiers. Germany who's in pot 3 came out on top of their olympic qualifier pool 7-0, over both Brazil and Italy, with the later having to qualify through world ranking.
Lots of tough teams all around really.
