According to the translator, it says he is disqualified for four days but it also says four penalties. I am confused if he is banned for four days or four matches.
Four matches - it says "4 giornate", in italian giornata means day but it's used as round/match in sports

She's thanking fans for the messages and saying that she'll have MRI results tomorrow

if Cuneo can keep Degradi and Squarcini… they will have a really solid team next year with their other potential addition in the middle
Who's the potential addition? 👀
There were rumors about Squarcini going to Conegliano but I hope it's not true lol

Spirito gets the MVP, very well deserved!
-
I was literally just thinking that. They're outdefending Novara by a big margin
Outdefending, outserving and outblocking
-
Cuneo defense is crazy good today, Spirito is doing an amazing job

If wikipedia is correct in their tables, since 2002, 5th team advanced to the semifinals 10 times (so that's ~50% probability), 6th team - 6 times (6/19), 7th team - twice and 8th team - 0 times. Obviously, there were times when league was more even, but nonetheless that gives over 40% of chances for 5/6th team (statistically) in span of 19 seasons, so that's quite a lot actually. Wins of 7/8th teams seems to be a margin of statistical error though.
Since 2018 we've had only one win of lower-seeded team (last year's Scandicci which lost 4th spot by set ratio) and I don't think we'll see any this season considering how well Scandicci played.
Yeah it's not happening this year, I was speaking more in general terms. Also I'm too lazy to check, but I guess those 6th going through semis were mostly in the 00/early 10, I honestly don't remember a 6th place in the semis in the last 10 years while it seems correct that every couple of seasons or so the 5th gets through (since 2018 it's only Scandicci but in 2017 Modena went to the finals after ranking 5th in regular season so it would be twice in the last 5 playoffs)
-
Maybe Italy should also switch to 1-4 and 5-8 play offs. what's the probability of an upset?
Eeeh the 5th going to the semis over the 4th is not uncommon, but usually that's the only uncertain pair

1. Egonu
2. Mingardi
3. Ebrar
4. Nwakalor
5. Lanier
This is Antropova erasure (even though she played much less than the others)
-
How many MVP did she get in total?
Overall, do you guys think that she was the best OPP of the league after Egonu?
She got 8, tied with Mingardi. It's hard to make comparisons and rankings but overall she was very good, probably better than what I expected at the start of the season
-
Yeah she got the most MVP so they're going by that, but there's no "official" MVP for the regular season

I think among Italian fans there's a constant criticism that the limits are too liberal in fact (at least in regard of male league), because there's gazillion average foreigners sitting on benches of Italian clubs with Italy NT being in crisis till Michieletto happened. On the other hand, top teams want to have as much foreign players as it is possible (young foreigners are cheap, Italy has no world-class MB, so to have Sole as a local player, for example, is a treasure), so they do whatever they can.
It's not that bad as for now, but I wrote in other thread that there are rumors that license/citizenship rule will be changed (so foreign player with Italian citizenship will be counted as a local even though he has non-Italian license and federation) - and this will be really messy with many foreigners having Italian citizenship as well, but there's no confirmation of that, it's just Pasini-thing as for now.
I don't think there's cause-effect relationship between level of a league/limit of foreigners - level of NT, but I can understand why countries want to have such limits.
I mean it wouldn't be the first time for Pasini to complitely misunerstand issues about citizenship/federetion of origin etc, so I wouldn't put too much faith in it until there's other outlets reporting it

Is she related to legendary Cuban player, Joel Despaigne, one of the very best players in the world in early 90s? I know Despaigne is a common surname in Cuba, but J. Despaigne is living in Italy to these days and works as a coach, so I'm wondering, but I didn't find any info.
Volleybox says that she is indeed his daughter.
I'm not sure she is, other than Volleybox there's nothing about it anywhere else and they seem to be based in different parts of Italy (Joel has always been living in the south and Noemi was born and played at youth level in the north), and the only thing I can find about Joel children is that he has a son in Cuba. Also usually this kind of thing is talked about even if their parents were not that successful, for instance you can find a lot about Dominika Giuliani mom's (Micaela Vecerkova, who played in Italy in the late 90's/early 00) but nothing about her
-
I'm surprised Bellia is out for Italy, even though she was already relegated as a bench player last year

Firenze is interested in Bonifacio but going by this article Herbots is not a done deal yet

Stefani is staying in Taranto next season and not going to Monza as we assumed. Falaschi is also staying. Smart of him to stay and be the main starter even though I think he would have played a lot in Monza as well https://www.volleynews.it/stef…speravo-ne-sono-contento/

Pasini says there will be Flavio-Sole duo in Perugia, so:
a) it's not true
b) Flavio is hired only for CL purposes
c) Sole will retire from NT and change his federation to Italian
d) Rychlicki will get naturalized sooner than we thought
This is interesting.
Times for bureaucracy in Italy are for sure not as short for Rychlicki - after he has the full four years (which would be in August/September) it's going to take at the very best 4/6 months after that. Maybe they will have a mixed roster? But I'm not sure who else they could hire as italian

oh lmao nevermind then (but it'd sorta make sense if leaving Russia ever crosses Micah's mind...)
The user named Forrest something is part of the staff of Kazan? Possibly the female team? I don't remember exactly but he works for a Russian team and usually is very reliable for Russia related stuff team and he says Micah is not leaving (even though i guess it could change depending on the evolution of the conflict)

According to GLP, aside from Lucarelli, Juantorena and Simon, Lube might also lose De Cecco. People in the comments there are speculating Christenson might return.
Also regarding Lucarelli, it seems Minas is trying to find the re$ources to bring him back to Brazil.
It's more wishful thinking than speculation 😂
