I saw that he actually has a boyfriend 😱 are there many Open gay Korean volleyball players?

No, Lim Sungjin isn't gay. I think you've mistaken him for another volleyball player who committed suicide: Kim Inhyuk. He never acknowledged he was gay but people assumed because of his personality and imagery on his social feed. Sad but harsh reality.

Three core players to keep an eye on:

I felt compelled to create a thread on the Korean men's national volleyball team. Super sad they don't have their own place. :(

They took a big hit after not qualifying for Tokyo Olympics but they're looking to turn things around!

Next up for this team is the FIVB Volleyball Men's Challenger Cup, taking place from July 28th through July 31st. They need to perform well here to make it into next year's Men's VNL and eventually for Paris 2024.

The group playing for the national team under Coach Do Hun Im is:

I've been reading a lot on the sentiment in Korea right now about the situation. And the other KOVO coaches are NOT happy with Cesar for their own valid reasons. One of the biggest being that they noticed Cesar hasn't taken the time to attend any events in-person to really see for his own eyes how the players are performing. Instead, Cesar said online viewing is totally fine. There is a pretty clear difference in terms of planning and strategizing but at the same time, I do feel the other coaches do need to trust in Cesar more.

All in all, everyone can agree that TIME is needed. TIME is necessary for the team to regroup, restructure, re-everything. And even Kim said it herself, this terrible loss is what was needed to make change. A clear wake up call.

Change needs to start from the ground up, starting with the Korean volleyball federation.

And they will get mad if you say Kim Heejin is playing really bad.

My biggest problem with these type of fans is that their motto is... "It's OK! You did your best. That's all that matters. You're trying, that's all that matters.." This type of mentality is too complacent and doesn't encourage their "idol" to take it to the next level. Kim Hee Jin is OUT. She's no longer international potential. There are other younger players to take her place.

Sad to say Korea made history by being the first team to lose all games, 0-12.

I have to say super embarrassing but needed for the ultimate wake up call.

Sometimes for change to happen, these events need to happen.

Dare I say, I'm hopeful for what the future will be BUT all I can say is Yeom Hye Sun and Kim Hee Jin needs to retire from NT.

I think there's no offer from European clubs that's why she's staying in Korea. She won't go to the USA to train very seriously only to stay in the Korean League. I think she was hoping for offers from the tougher leagues but didn't get any?

There definitely were offers from Euro clubs. I wouldn't deny that..

But in a way, the setter should set to Kim more.. she's the main spiker after all, so the expectation is higher.. we can't judge the dynamics at play with the team but there's a story behind all of it that we just can't speak to..

So, interesting news too a few days ago..

KOVO and Korean Volleyball organization are inviting French coach (Laurent Tillie) and Italian coach (Massimo Barbolini) for a seminar to learn how to improve national capabilities for the league. Taking place on the 23rd and 24th for two days in Seoul.

These two coaches are great choices to learn from but my biggest worry is they hold this event and don't even apply any of their strategies and tactics. I hope the current Korean organization and coaches actually listen to them and make change.

I'm super bummed that she chose Korea over Italy. BUT, I don't blame her. She's offered nearly $600K and that's a lot for one year so..

Hopefully, she goes to Italy after she's done with Heung Kuk Spiders. :)

I didn't watch U18, but read that they ranked #3 under China and Japan, beating Thailand - as usual.

But considering Thailand players are much more likely to head to overseas leagues and grow as players, while the Korean players will likely never do so

It's possible the next generation of Thailand players will continue improving (granted they have the potential) like their current generation.

It's a pity there's no outstanding U18 players who are good enough to be called up to NT

So frustrating... the Korean league system needs to change!! We should petition, haha.

Korea finally winning its first set in the VNLs, against Turkey no less

Could be partially related to Cesar understanding the Turkey players and Guidetti from Vakif well? -my guess

Heejin and Jeongah are both playing too, though I wouldn't attribute much to them considering they've played in previous VNL matches as well

Yes, it's highly likely due to not just Cesar but one of the assistant coach also being Turkish himself and is on the Vakifbank team.

I honestly think Heejin just needs to sit out completely. She's just not herself and I don't think she's going to be back to normal.

    I still believe in JeongAh.

The error is justified because it was aggresive move (mostly seonwoo trying to hit the line)

i think Cesar trying different approach this time going for faster pace like Japan and Thailand.

Even so, Koreans aren't fast or at last they're not trained back at home to be fast.

The biggest problem I have is that the leagues in Korea have all the tall players to be middle blockers instead of training them to become wing spikers.

A lot of the spikers in Korea are all short. I don't get it......

I'm not sure how I feel about this coach.. he talks a lot about "process" whatever that means.. he shows all these graphics as if data drives all his decisions but I wonder if he has good experience to really elevate the team as a whole like Lavarini did..
