It's only from a starting point that she is 'someone's sister'. I refer to that other guy as "Mayu's brother" :)

Yuki Ishikawa won the awards of best OH in both of the last 2 World Cups, and had an important role to lead JPN to get their best result in the 2019WC. IMO he deserves better credit than being said as “someone” or “that other guy”.

I like Mayu Ishikawa and I even think she has the best attacking skills among players at her height in the world. But at this point there’re still a lot to improve in her game. I do hope she can improve her reception if she wants to be a world class OH like her brother. If she could achieve the level of success of Yuki, she’d definitely be the role model of short player to the world.

I don't know if was in the semis or in group phase but in one of those zhang only did 1 POINT

Incredible and that point was a bad defense from sylla,an overpass

In the other game she wasn't appear also

Zhang was still recovering from a surgery in WCH’18 as you can see she wore the same protective kit on her leg as Thaisa. She was far from her best form in that tournament. Zhang was in the starting 6 mostly because she and Gong could free Zhu from receiving in some rotations. If Li was on court, Zhu and Gong had to receive in all rotations as Li’s passing wasn’t good enough at that time.

Russia will be at risk of failing to reach the quarterfinals, their match vs Turkey will be the crucial one for them. If Russia can’t handle the tough serving from Turkey, they will be in big trouble.

For pool A, will be interested to see which two teams out of JPN/ KOR/ DOM to advance.
The most interesting match in the quarterfinals will be 2nd place in Group A (should be either Brazil or Serbia) vs. Group B 2nd/3rd (can be any teams except Argentina). Maybe a rematch of Brazil vs China in the quarters again?

Please consider how lucky the team was to have only 7 good players and use them almost 4 years in all conpetition without injuries.

I don’t really agree that NED had “only 7 good players” during the Rio OG cycle. Only looking at OH/Opp, they had Balkestein, Buijs & Sloetjes in starting positions, and had Pietersen & Plak on bench. I think at least all these 5 players can be regarded as “good players” already (Plak may be a bit controversial, but for me she definitely did a nice job in Rio)

sitenoise Do you have any idea why Risa decides to retire before the Tokyo OG?
It’d be a big loss to team JPN as she has such an important role on their receiving line... IMO there’s no other player in JPN can take her role. Apart from her superb reception and defense, for a player who is only 173cm, her attacking skills are actually outstanding as well, she can very often scores 10+ points in a match.

Sad to see such an all-around player to retire that early and suddenly...;(
