Seriously, USA has so much depth in their roster. Their "weakest" players could probably be starters in other teams. Not many teams have that kind of luxury.That’s why anything other than gold will just not do.

This as well! It is quite grating. I really like how on a lot of teams in the NCAA in the US, there are pronunciation guides for players’ names. The FIVB could do this as well.

I think there’s no doubt it was a racist gesture, and I’m glad she learned now that she shouldn’t have done it. But, for me, what matters the most is her intention. She says she did that because she had a great performance on defense, something everyone knows it’s the main weapon from Asian teams. Was the best way to show that she relates a good digging performance to Asian people? Of course not, but I don’t think her intention was to be rude or racist, or something like that. Just hope she learned and won’t do it again, and people stop bashing hate over her, because Thai players have already shown they are cool with that and everything is ok. Spreading hate on her won’t resolve anything

Maybe the VNL, and all FIVB events really, should mandate cross cultural seminars for everyone involved.
Not entirely in the same vein but still shows how little effort is made in learning about other teams outside of volleyball: commentators (Salima Rockwell and Ci Michel) for a Slovenia match were surprised to hear the team doing their huddles in Italian. Had they done their jobs, they’d know it was one of Slovenia’s official languages.

China still needs a fourth OH behind Zhu/Li/Zhang, someone who can come in cold and still pass dimes. LXT in this role was crucial to China’s success in Rio. Idk who you have now that could do that. Maybe still LXT if her form improves.

That win is probably what emboldened Karch to do peak Karch things that ultimately resulted in a disaster of a campaign four years later.
