Unfortunately all young OH talent have poor passing and defence, so i think she’s safe for now.

If you consider her story, she doesnt play volleyball for very long. It’s understandable her passing skill is low, HS coach probably just use her for attacking.

To me, the situation of Jeong Ji-yun, Choi Jeong-min and Kwon Min-ji are akin to extracting your wisdom teeth. I have no problem with them learning the game by starting out as a middle blocker (it might even improve their timing and help them better read plays), but sooner or later, they will have to face reality.

Simply said, there is no future for a sub 180cm player who can't pass. Maybe if they want a cute domestic-only V-League career, they can keep doing what they do. But I don't think I'm wrong in expecting much more from them, especially the first two.

Yes, it's gonna hurt. Yes, you will cry a lot, but the sooner you face the pain, the simpler the surgery will be and the fewer complications you'll have to suffer.

So toughen up, put your work boots on, bring a kleenex or two to wipe those tears, and eat those serves.

Edit: Unfortunately, those self-serving coaches might have a say in delaying that surgery...

She can be a very frustrating player, but I will always always root for her when I see how hard she works every game and how much effort she puts in to improve her craft, despite having less "natural talent" than some other players of her caliber.

Be more confident! Sometimes, watching her body language and the way she carries herself during a game, I feel like she suffers from some kind of imposter syndrome and it affects her play. We can see it's the first time in her career she's been asked to carry this many responsibilities.

You're starting because you deserve to, because you have the skills to stand there on the court. Don't put your head down every time you fail a pass. Forget your last mistake and carry on. Sheer hard work put you where you are, when others would have already given up. That makes you all the more honorable.

Yes her set is superb today,.

and choi jeong min, she can block attack from right middle and left what a talent

Oh yeah she's a talent! I've loved her since her high school days. She is smarter and has a wider range of attacks than Jeong Ji-yun. She just really really really needs to hit the weight room. And of course up her defensive game. It's just unfortunate that both her and JJY might miss those extra few inches to be competitive during international games.

btw what do you guys think of ibk's libero shin yeon kyoung? NT material?

This is only her second year as a libero, so she's still learning on the job even though she was a great defensive OH for a large part of her career. Her speed is only average, but she's always in a good position and she's much taller than the average libero, especially in Korea, so she can cover more ground than most. There are flashes of Kim Hae-ran in her in terms of digging ability. She certainly plays hard every single shift, which can/will put a toll on her body in the long term.

She needs to improve her stamina. Last year, in the first 2 rounds she was on fire, maybe the best libero in the league for a stretch. However, as the rounds went on, her performance decreased. Part of that is also due to her dumb coach who didn't trust the reserve players and who started her in every single game even though she wasn't 100%. She has always been known as a fragile player (physically) in her career though. The other thing that made it tougher for her was the IBK OH lineup struggling hard with the reception, putting even more pressure on her to bail her team out defensively.

To join the NT, she will really need to upgrade her passing. Kim Yeon-gyeong libero from Hyundai is another case of this. In a team with Park Jeong-ah likely as the number one OH option, you need to pair her with a libero who can pass well and cover a large space for her on the reception. As good as Kim Hae-ran was as a libero, passing was her big weakness, so they were not a good match, as seen in Rio.

If we want to play fast-paced volleyball, I would also prefer a libero who can handle the second ball better. KYG from Hyundai is the best at this, as she can set a ball overhand from the back row like a second setter. Oh Ji-young is also pretty decent at distributing the ball to a certain extent.

As to who should be the future NT libero, I have no clue! Kim Hae-ran and Yim Myung-ok are old and won't make it to Paris. Oh Ji-young will be 36... My favorite libero under 30 would be KYG, but can she improve enough on passing? I don't know.

It amazes me to see all the young players coming into the league with piss poor passing. What the fuck do they teach in those high schools? Service, passing, and digging, that's the basics man, especially when you're short as a shrimp compared to the foreign players. Those should have been our advantages when competing at the international level.

There hasn't been any great young libero coming up in the last few years either. When you watch a 25-year-old Justine Wong-Orantes at the Olympics. MY GOD! Those tall teams even beat us on defense...

Lee So-young is still only 26 (soon 27) and has many many prime years left. If they handle their cards well, KGC will become a dynasty. Somehow, I don't 100% trust the management though.

With so many promising young players, there WILL be growing pains; kids WILL make dumb mistakes, some will choke under pressure at times, but the coach should stay the course and be patient. The suffering that you endure now will make you win for years (before the kids all ask to get paid).
