very poor performance from two of the most experienced players of paok

While I do get disappointed by their inconsistent plays at times, today I place the blame entirely on PAOK's management

To give you an idea of their schedule:

    This is so absurd

Saying an early goodbye to PAOK's CEV Cup run

Our receives are so horrible the 1st set ended in less than 25 minutes💀Dayeong barely even got to set the ball

This game is like a walk in the park for the Alba Blaj players, they aren't even tired at all, don't even need to try

Our attacks are horribly weak too

    - but I won't blame the players too much either

Can't believe the PAOK team sent their players on an 18 hour bus ride instead of a flight to Romania from Greece right after their previous match

doongie1015 i am in the arena...he is safe so far and he hasnt removed his jacket 😀

I guess Panathinaikos fans were happy from the win to bother doing anything to him haha, or maybe Greece fans were indeed exaggerating things

I wouldn't know, but perhaps his "foreigner card" saved him too

Also, whole group of Panathinaikos fans (7 total?) went up to Dayeong after the match to take photos with her which was nice

With all due respect but LDY is too good for the Greek league. I hope she'll go to Italy/Germany/Turkey next year

    💜

The receives and defence of PAOK were... very disappointing to say the least. I don't even want to go into it ㅠㅠ I miss Jaeyeong a lot haha

Its clear that Panathianikos did their homework on Dayeong like their coach said they did, their blockers were marking her throughout the match which was quite interesting to watch lol - refused to let her score any points from feints/spikes when she was in front row though she's a setter

    Panathinaikos' setter #10 was great

Got quite upset that PAOK's blockers that just so easily kept falling into her play for the whole 4 sets

Needless to say Panathinaikos had much better spikers and receives than PAOK too

    Our receives... sigh

Despite being warned by >30 people not to wear the PAOK uniform to the PAOK vs Panathinaikos match, the Korean YouTuber decided to wear it to see if Greece fans will indeed attack him for it... (under a jacket which I'm not sure if he'd remove later on)

Joked about being able to claim his insurance if it does happen

He thinks its ridiculous for fans this day and age to resort to such violence if so (I do too and think its absurd, but I also do understand it's Greek fandom culture - though not an acceptable one)

... let's see what happens to him since he insists on it

Finally much better receives and digs from PAOK today
I wonder if the cause is due to PAOK players focusing more against stronger opponents, or if their coach prepared more against stronger opponents (lol)

But Aris's serves were not that strong either so they could not take advantage of PAOK's biggest weakness in receives.

Martina is injured and out, but PAOK's back-up libero Eleni (16 year old) did so amazing

Fidon & Merteki also received and dug better today too

We finally got to see a similar Dayeong from her first match against Olympiacos, where she gets more freedom & flexibility in her setting (from better receives/digs) to create more plays

This long distance cross court back toss was one of my favourites
(1MB upload limit is... too LQ ㅠㅠ)

Will it only be for this single match? Or all future matches?

Read that it was specifically requested by Panathinaikos for this single derby match due to past bad calls that went against them in their rivalry with Olympiacos specifically

They borrowed the system from male volleyball league

After the PAOK vs Porfyras match on the 27th, there was a group of female Greek audience members who went up to take a photo with Dayeong.

The Korean YouTuber who was there at the time overheard them saying that they were ex-Greece NT volleyball players who gathered together (from all over Greece) to come watch this match, after hearing that Lee Dayeong is playing in Greece.

They said that they remembered playing against Dayeong's mother (Kim Gyeonghui, ex-Korean NT setter) 30 years ago in Busan, Korea🤯

(short clip, but without the conversation)

I tried finding articles about the match they supposedly had 30 years back, but was unfortunately unable to find any.

If it was 30 years ago and in Busan, I can only think of the 1988 Olympics.

But Greece didn't qualify, unless they played a practice match together?

the korean youtuber broadcast the game against lamia? i couldnt find it

He went to the game, but stopped broadcasting because the Lamia staff knew about his livestreaming and approached him saying they would sue if he streamed the match:white: Guess he got too famous there

He shared the above story in a separate livestream one day after while chatting with people who tuned in.

Fun fact, the Korean YouTuber who has been following the PAOK team to each of their matches said that there were more Greek Lamia home fans who took photos with Dayeong at PAOK's away game there, compared to PAOK fans back at their home stadium haha

There were Greek fans who lifted their kids onto the court from the stands to take photos with Dayeong, so she stood up against the railings instead to take photos with them haha
Surprised they know her enough to want a photo, and even after a home game loss

Interestingly there was also a female Korean fan who travelled down to Lamia to watch Dayeong's match. She didn't know which stadium the match would be played at so she visited Lamia for 4 days and asked the local residents where it would be held.

4 precious days in a city like Lamia with nothing to do 😅wow

Staying up late waiting for stats... CEV is slow :read:

Korean article reported that Dayeong scored 4 points in the 1st set alone, guessing she scored at least 6 points minimally if so

    Also, source :rose:

Ao thiras in cev away matches had just a camera and the matches were available on fb without commentator. Tommorow they will have youtube stream for the home match against oudegem.

I think that the requirements is when they want their stream be available for cev and when is obligatory to stream the games. Otherwise the teams can post whatever they want in their social media.

Just saw that Thiras would stream it on their YouTube

Why then did Asterix say that CEV is demanding too much money...

charalampos shared this in another thread

What I'm confused is that, if CEV Cup is to be broadcasted by the organizer (assuming they hit the broadcasting standards required by CEV),

why is it broadcasted through eurovolley.tv instead of their own channels?

So clubs have to pay for costs to broadcast, but CEV earns from it since its broadcasted over eurovolley.tv subscriptions...?

Or is it broadcasted for free over CEV YouTube channel? I guess I'll have to see this coming week.

I can't believe even the CEV Cup Final Phase is to be broadcasted by Organizer too.

Edit: Okay seems like if the organizer pays for the broadcast, it will be broadcasted for free over CEV YouTube Channel

I guess this could be another way CEV earns money.
Perhaps their broadcasting requirements are so strict that clubs have to fork out the costs for CEV Sport Media Agency to broadcast it, whereas CEV rejects any other cheaper third-party broadcasting options due to "not meeting requirements".
Judging from Asterix's reply saying "CEV demands too much money"

I've checked with Asterix (home team) if they planned on broadcasting the CEV Cup match as it isn't scheduled on eurovolley.tv

Not sure how it works, perhaps if CEV decides not to broadcast it, home teams have to pay extra to broadcast it separately due to CEV holding broadcasting rights. What a pity though

Probably the home matches of greek teams will be at least on youtube

I heard that the away match of the PAOK mens team in Challenge Cup could not even be broadcasted (aside from a local television broadcast) because broadcasting rights belonged to CEV - although they decided not to make use of it.

I sure hope that's not the case for the female matches... finger crossed for PAOK vs Asterix broadcasting this coming Wednesday.

Additionally, some bad news is that it is confirmed with the twins' agent that Jaeyeong's left knee cartilage has some issues and she visited a Greek hospital which said that she requires arthroscopicsurgery and will take 6 weeks to rehab.

She decided to return to Korea for re-examination, as well as for any potential surgery and rehabilitation. She arrived 3 days ago and is currently quarantining. (source, and fosonline reported on this too - even though they're supposedly an Olympiacos site, its funny how they report faster/better on the twins news compared to PAOK news sites...)

Good news is if all goes well, she can likely return to court by mid-January. But unfortunately, Dayeong will be alone and PAOK will have to rely on Merteki/Fidon/Maya
While that's the original plan for PAOK, it's worrying... their defence is lacking and none are really aces who can pull through during tough moments.

Anyway, I'm glad Jaeyeong is back in Korea for re-examination and any potential surgery. Medical quality and communication will be better and more familiar for her.

Aktas was really good and was targeted by PAOKs serves, she carried Thetis for the first 2 sets though they made a lot of mistakes.
Anthouli didn't perform well till the end of 3rd set, but after winning the 3rd, she went into full drive for the last 2 sets bringing Thetis to their victory.

Gotta give this match to Thetis who wanted to win more than PAOK did.

PAOK has been quite disappointing for me in the past few matches despite having weaker opponents, poor and inconsistent defence (receives/ attack cover/ digs/ blocks). Makes it very worrying for CEV Cup which is a knockout tournament.
Despite winning the first 2 sets, they were both deuces and we lost large leads to Thetis unnecessarily. Too many poor mistakes, especially in 3rd and last set.

Floros made some odd substitutions in the 3rd set which unfortunately didn't work out in PAOK's favour.
I feel he's definitely playing Greek teams with the CEV Cup match in mind, instead of focusing on them first (which he claimed he is in his interview).

Even as a fan I do think subbing Dayeong out in the 4th set for Elisavet for PAOK was a good move.

I think she got tired after running for all those sets/digs in the first 3 sets. Considering her 8 month hiatus, her stamina likely isn't as good as it once was.
Her back seems to be strained too cause she needed to tape it.

My only thought during the match was hoping that Jaeyeong could recover quick and join the team for the upcoming CEV match against Asterix.

Her receives was considered her weakness, but judging by how the team is playing now, I feel her receives would be better than both Merteki & Fidon. Though her block will be shorter, her timing is good. Her digs and attacks are definitely better too. Just concerned about her knee and jumps.
