I dony know if someone has already shared this reel, but I really like it and I would like to maybe re shared it. These are some words from Paula Pequeno after the difficult loss Brazil suffered against Italy.
I will try my best, cuz it has been a while I dont practice my Portuguese, but she said this :
"I want to speak to all the volleyball fans and everyone who follows us. Don't be so cruel, don't be so heartless. Many have no idea what it's like inside, what people are facing, it's very difficult. Especially for such a young girl. Brazil already did the same thing with Mari in 2004. (The other commentator asks: Are we going to create a new Mari?) Paula responds: No, we're not, because we're going to shield her from now on, from now on. People should be more educated, show compassion during this time, since she (Julia B) has a lot of volleyball to show. She has evolved absurdly; remember that against France she had a very good performance, scoring 17 points. For me, it's very clear: Brazil already did it with Mari, and now we're not going to allow them to do the same to Julia B, not at all; let her get stronger; she has a promising future. Bergmann, we're here from the booth to defend you and cheer for you."
Personally, I do love her words, Paula has been such a fresh air in the comments, but here, I found her so human, humble and empathic. Especially cuz she is being accountable and knows how some of her own connationals could be (and are). As someone said before, now social network is much much worse than in 2004, when Mari was practically lynched when she was 19 yo.
tbf, Brazil has been unlucky in recent years. Last year, Kudiess' injury. This year, AC's injury could have affected the overall result. Players like Kudiess and AC are capable of changing the outcome of the match. It's a kinda sad every year they lost their main player due to injury before big tournament stars. I know Bergman was Brazil's weakest link vs Italy, but lets not forget Roberta also missed two serves at crucial moments of the sets and otoh, her sets weren't precise at times. I wish Brazil can keep all its players healthy for the next wch and Olympic games
