    Maribor New MEL Champion
Branik Maribor is the champion of the Middle European League 2011/12. In the final of the Final four tournament at the Multiversum hall in Schwechat the girls from Slovenia defeated host SVS Post at 3:0 (27:25, 25:23, 25:23). Before the encounter the team of SVS Post was considered to be the favorite for the title - but once more the Austrians have to content themselves with second place.

The home team lost a clear lead in the first set and also the second and third set showed a similar picture. "It is bitter to lose three sets with only two points difference. We should not have given away the first set. Overall the result is just because the Slovenians played more boldly. As President of the MEVZA I would like to congratulate Maribor on the title - as Chairman of SVS Post I have the right to be disappointed", says Karl Hanzl.

In the match for third place Slavia EU Bratislava was able to defeat the supposedly stronger rival VK Doprastav Bratislava in 94 minutes at 3:1 (25:17, 19:25, 25:13, 25:15) thus securing the third place in the competition.

"We did not deliver a good performance as a team, we simply played not well", said the apparently disappointed VK Doprastav coach Barbora Kosekova after the encounter. "Already in the semifinal against Branik Maribor we thought the odds were not so bad but we did not make it.'

The coach of the winning team Martin Hamsik talked about the best match of his team in this season: "The critical moment was when we won the third set. We improved from game to game and we are happy with the third place - in particular because we have defeated our local rival.'
