North European League - NEVZA 2011/2012


  • Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, November 5, 2011. The group phase of the 2011 NEVZA Club Championship is taking place this weekend in six different cities and across four countries, namely Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland. A total of 21 teams have registered for the competition, 13 for the men’s division and 8 for the ladies event. Clubs from England and the Faroe Islands are making their historical debut in this year’s edition of the Champs.
    Two teams from each preliminary group will qualify for the final round which is scheduled for next January 27-29, 2012, with venues still to be determined.


    Group 1 in Holte (DEN): Holte (DEN), Fortuna ODENSE (DEN), OSLO Volley (NOR) and Polonia (ENG)
    Group 2 in Vordingborg (DEN): Vordingborg (DEN), Bröndby (DEN), Stod Volley (NOR) and Lindesberg (SWE)

    No. 1 and 2 from both groups qualify for the final round to be played during the last weekend of January 2012.

  • Two teams from Norway and two from Denmark had qualified for the final round of the championships that turned out to be extremely close and where nothing had been decided going into the 3rd and final day of the competition.


    In the end, Oslo Volley pipped their Norwegian compatriots Stod Volley for the title with a better set score, with both teams level on 5 points.


    But Oslo Volley had opened their campaign with a 2-3 loss to Denmark’s Holte VK on the first day of competition. However, the next day Oslo Volley surged back to beat Stod Volley 3-1 and emphatically beat Brøndby in the decisive game on Sunday to claim the gold medal.


    Stod Volley secured runners up position by beating Holte VK in the last match of the competition.


    The bronze went to Holte IF with the same number of points as Brøndby, but with a superior set score.
