There are a lot of common names in Bulgarian volleyball as well, especially when there is a number of very popular family names in the country. I won't bore you with old players or an exhaustive list of less known ones, but there is a curious case. The name Georgi Petrov could be found more than once in the team rosters in recent seasons. There are 3 people with that name, 2 of them are still active players. The veteran Georgi Petrov (OH), who is now a coach I don't know where, used to play for Levski until a few years ago. He then became coach of the team and assistant in the senior NT and some junior/youth NTs. There are 2 younger players with the name Georgi Petrov and they almost played for the same club. One of them (OPP) is a former player of Neftochimik 2010 and is now competing for Deya Volley Burgas in the second division. Neftochimik 2010 recruited a talented kid Georgi Petrov (OH) for the 2016-2017 campaign (I think he came from Slavia Sofia, not 100% sure), he is the youngest of all those mentioned.
i heard that in BUL, there's not a lot of family names... so there's a lot of people with same surnames. in the women's NT, there's about 5 dimitrovas...
Gabriela Guimarães, OH, plays in Rexona and in the NT
Gabriella Guimarães, also OH, plays in Nestlé
i thought the 2nd gabi is a libero?
about CHN NT:
well, they did crush GER in sets 3 and 4, so they showed a bit of what they can do when they can pass and defend well. in last WCh, they were the best blocking team in first round (i read that stat here) but still lost every single match. what does that tell you? the basic skill level is just low. VB is more than just attacking and blocking (well, more so in women's game than men's). it seems that CHN NT selects very tall players but with bad skills. they are a bit like DOM women, except the DOM are much more successful in the world stage. it seems their philosophy is just selecting for height and hope they can overwhelm smaller teams like JPN and KOR. well, these last two teams are showing what they can do with better skills. and this tactic is not working against top teams.
IRN is a stark contrast to CHN. you can see their athleticism and skill level is miles ahead of those tall, lumbering CHN players that can't move and can't pass, can't defend or set the ball in transition... IIRC libero (tong) tried to set a couple of balls in transition against GER, and they were terrible sets.
there's some hope in players like jiang chuan, rao shuhan, and things certainly improved when yu yaochen came in for mao tianyu, who i guess, the coaches like because he is a 2 m tall setter, but hasn't been too successful...
some beautiful females players from greece (maybe in greece there are not many beautiful males )
Katerina Giota - Eva Chantava
charalambos,
when i watched some of GRE NT matches, i remember that chantava was very glamorous looking. too bad she's not a better player...
giota is very pretty. and so is lamprousi. always thought GRE had the best-looking MB duo...
I would bang the entire French team.
* covering my ears *
i'm shocked! shocked! shocked! at this type of posts...
i cannot come into this thread anymore...
thanks. it looks like the fight for last place (and relegation) is between BEL and BUL...
which are the 4 teams that are not in the core group (challengers)?
Kacper Piechocki (Libero of Polish NT and Skra Bełchatów) and Anna Korabiec (Libero of ŁKS Łódź, Polish champion) got engaged. Wish them all the best! Libero power!
sorry for the OT, but can you tell me, how is kacper pronounced? i'd have thought it should be written kasper????
thanks all for your replies. i'm wondering, how did bethania do last season in ITA? why did she play in indonesia? i thought indonesia league is where washed-up or players past their peak will go ? i think mari & paula, and logan tom, played there YEARS PAST their peak?
i wonder if former NT members played in the domestic league this season, like sidarka nunez, cindy rondon, echenique, etc.
people, please don't bring up that one time DOM lost a point because they had 7 players on court... LOL.
The issue was that libero subbed Pena in back row instead of Eve. After Eve went to the front row libero forgot to sub with Pena; DOM lost this action and they could make only one move so Pena went back and they had to receive with MB in backrow.
thanks, but actually jineiry did not receive, brayelin moved back to receive instead. jineiry was hidden like an OPP.
what happened in that one play where jineiry stayed in backrow, why didn't kwiek allow libero to come in? that was weird.
you want to bet DOM loses to JPN... LOL. these girls are fire and ice... they can play the power game, but not the meticulous, slow-grinding one...
yaaaaaaaaay! my girls did it. DOM beats US, i don't remember any other time when this happened except in sydney 2004!!!!!!!!!!
eve is playing really well. i used to be her hater, but i have to give it to her.
ugh, karch has nothing to say in TO except the obvious. i could coach this team.
ugh. DOM up 6-3 in 5th, now 6-6.
lots of swings in this match. none of the sets were close.
com'on, marte, get it together! all sets are too low or too tight to the net.
