    Finally.... Macerata win something...

The new lineup today looked quite interesting and promising. The listed OHs are Kurek and Parodi and Opp is Kovar, but the real Opp is Kurek as he spiked 90% on the right side. Judging from the 4th and 5th set, this mechanism actually works.

So most likely Trentino will claim the half-season winner and Modena lost the reign in the very last match. Macerata diverted a little bit in the middle of this half-season but hopefully they can go back on track with their current 3rd place position.

I express myself in a very bad way. I wasn't blaming Kurek for yesterday's lose, but telling that generally he's not the player Treia needs on court, considering the kind of team they are (strongest MB couple of the world). Treia needs a good passer who can also kill the ball when its needed. Kovar is not that player right now, with his up and downs... And still Kurek is useless for Treia. And I agree about weakness of service, but the real weak link right now is the coach, with his bloody decisions... :white:

I'll second to this point, as I wrote in 118th post, Kurek should go back to Plusliga and find his position.
I mean, if you think about it, Zibi's position is surely the best fit for Kurek too.
Man those two just cannot get away from each other.

This is so frustrating. Kurek had a fairly good match (both performance and stat numbers) but the team lost...

It doesn't make sense to me.

Also who does the ratings on the stats? However every one of the home team (losing team) has higher votes than the guest team?

Well, that's it. Skra didn't concern too much about Malinowski and this buddy just came from nowhere and crashed the bees.

I have no problem with another 5-set loss in the regular season. Keeping a winning streak gets harder and harder as the number increases and I really prefer to keep the winning streak during play-offs. Hopefully Skra is considering the same. For now everyone should just enjoy the Christmas break and get ready for the critical battles next spring.

Maybe not everyone deserves a break, some of them still needs practice.

Skra migh have made a big mistake today by letting Malinowski spike so easy today. Apparently they use much more efforts on blocking Zibi, but they freed Malinowski, who basically was the key player of JW in the 2nd/3rd set.

And I still have the same old complaints about Skra's bench players.

The German Cup semi-finals are complete now. Tonight, Lüneburg won in Fellbach 3:1 :win:

28.12.14 SVG Lüneburg - SWD powervolleys Düren
28.12.14 TV Ingersoll Bühl - VfB Friedrichshafen

Wait wait wait.... the match between BRV and VfB was not the German Cup final?
Aren't those two the top teams in German league and they were not seeded?

This is so funny. Top ranking team got knocked out at QFs...

Just watched the match of BRV. To my delight Kuhner played the whole match and led the team to win. However I would like to say that Kuhner's setting still needs some polishing. But it's good to see him play!

Big match ahead against Resovia I guess Kuhner will be the sub server again. BTW I definitely think he did a much better job in serving and attacking rather than setting.

Don't know much about Duren. Sounds like there's an American player in this team who's the leading scorer. However, I didn't pay much attention.

What Kurek needs to do, like immediately, is to pack his shit up and go back to Plusliga.

All his problems should date back to 2011/12, when he left Skra to seek for something new for Russia after Skra lost the championship. He spent three years in Russia and Italy, either in injury or on bench, and thus became so wasted. I guess this actually makes sense because both clubs treated him like trash. Kurek was never a super sub. You can not expect him to come in 5 points behind and magically turn round the game, which I admit some other players indeed are able to, but not Kurek.

I feel there's a huge difference between Kurek in Plusliga vs Kurek anywhere else. Back to the time when he was still the star player in Plusliga, he had all the leverages such that Skra actually recruit players and make plans around him. However, when outside the Plusliga, especially in top teams of TOP leagues, he turned out to be simply a normal foreign player that nobody actually cares. Unfortunately Kurek is not that kind of player who can fit in every system. And not every team necessarily follow the system of Poland NT/Skra. Once he sat on the bench, basically he started to lose his leverages day by day. Finally one day he was not that shiny anymore that the national team didn't need to focus on him either.

I guess Kurek is simultaneously a talented player and a stubborn player. We definitely anticipated to see a different him, like a Kurek with decent receiving, or a Kurek with smart spikes, but obviously that is not gonna happen. So I feel now the best thing he could do is to go back to a place that he is welcomed and he can actually play. His recent games are totally not his style in the good old times, and I'm absolutely not willing to see the Kurek with shaky receiving and funky spikes. When he was subbed out I could see his disappointment, hesitation, confusion and unwillingness, but he normally wondered a little bit and accepted it with depression just like he doesn't have enough confidence. I fxxking hate to see this scene.

If only, presumably, after this season Kurek would like to go back to Plusliga, not necessarily Skra (I don't want to lose Conte either lol, although please don't be Resovia), and go back to the court as a starting player, I bet he still have a chance to fight for a position in Rio. Honestly I don't see a big chance for him in NT next year unless Antiga finds himself in some really embarrassing position that he had to try every player, but as long as he still plays, I'll always have faith in him.

Skra apparently is struggling with finding a proper sub for Wlazly, which they definitely need for the upcoming playoffs. I guess Muzaj just failed the test and now it's Marechal's turn.

Again, Skra's bench squad seemed too weak this season. I almost forget how spoiled we (skra fans) were when there were Atanasijevic and Bakiewicz on the bench.

Or they could just return the old system with 16 teams?

Or they can copy the system of Davis Cup in tennis. There's one world group, and there're small divisions in each continent such that teams can avoid too much unnecessary traveling.

    Couldn't help but notice...

    What is ZAKSA up to?

Please someone explain how come Belchatow lost to Bedzin?

    All bench players except Lisinac.
I don't mean to judge but from what I saw during the warming up in Innsbruck, the bench players are indeed way below starting squad's level.
Although this loss is not necessarily a bad thing. Keeping a winning streak is too exhausting. Skra now can place themselves on a more realistic position (like a team that do lose). Anyways, it is also wise to rest main players in the middle of the season before they're worn out in the elimination round of Plusliga and ECL.

I was just having this one last hope: Graca did mention that the major sponsors of FIVB now are Poland, Italy, Japan and Brazil. I bet Poland won't be happy if they're confirmed to miss the Olympics at a very early stage (say don't get top 3 positions in ECH so that automatically disqualify for the OG qualification tournament in Japan). I don't know if at that time the formula would be subject to change from the pressure of hugest volleyball-fanatical country.

Oh btw I'm not a fan of Graca and I have no idea if he's secretly doing Brazil a favor. Well by this formula Brazil are definitely welcoming weaker opponents at the OG, just saying.
