Man, you're playing against a superteam, the least you could do is to minimize your own bonehead errors, especially when you already suck at receiving and will lose a shitload of points over it.

And Pyo Seung-joo is among the most frustrating Korean player there is. The biggest unclutch rhythm breaker. The coach has to have the courage/brain to take her out before it's too late.

Speaking of Coach Woo-jae, while I respect his talent as a scout, he's always 3-4 steps too late. Good eye for talent, terrible in-game management. And every time he calls for a timeout, it's always to say useless things like "Relax, okay, IBKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!". Absolutely redundant and time-wasting. No strategy adjustment whatsoever. While it's not a good idea to go full Lee Jung-cheol, sometimes you got to raise your voice a little, raise your players' emotion and lit a fire under their ass. Coach just looks like a replacement teacher scared of his students.

I don't understand. If you're gonna use Rousseaux as OH, where she belongs, why not start Jeong Ji-yun as OP right away to maximize your attack power. Hwang Youn-joo is a legend, but this ain't 2016... Unless you don't trust Lee Da-hyun as a starting MB.

Edit: Well, as I'm writing, JJY is in...

Oh man... I've got a lot to say about this GS Caltex vs IBK game. So pissed even as a non-partisan of any team! But, gonna get some sleep to gather my thoughts first...

Poor Lavarini. His team right now as it stands after the first round:

    Left: KYK, Lee Jae-young, Lee So-young, ???

Center: Yang Hyo-jin, Suji Kim?, ???

    Right: ??????????????????????????, ???????????????????????????????

    Setter: Lee Da-yeong, ???

    Libero: ???

So there's this Well-Bank ranking that is presented before/during every game. The players are rated according to a point-based system. Basically, the player receives a certain amount of "points" if they perform a certain action during the game. For example, a kill would give you 2 points while a (successful) dig gives you 0,6 pts.

I'm not sure how much weight to give to those ratings as the system itself is based on pretty arbitrary numbers.

You can look below at the top 10 after 7 games according to this ranking system. I've also attached the criteria for those points. Google Translate. Sorry...

Lazareva is unsurprisingly on top. Heungkuk has two players in the top 5. Cho Song-hwa is the top-ranked setter but followed very closely by Lee Da-yeong (who got taken out during a game). Yim Myung-ok is the highest rated libero.

Watching the game live and what was shown on camera, I didn't see anything that would have warranted an expulsion. But if he did indeed "push" a referee, he should be punished.

What's absurd to me is the league trying to take away the emotions from the game in the name of "sportsmanship". The heated rivalries, the staredowns, the confrontations. That's what puts people in the stands. I'm already salivating at another OK Financial Group vs KB Insurance match. I personally loved the skirmish at the end! Nobody got hurt, except maybe some people's feelings...

In the last game against Hi-pass, you could see how KYK's demeanor changed. No more airplane celebrations, no more eye winks, no more cursing. Rousseaux also had to control herself since you'll now hear some words from the ref for slapping a ball out of frustration...

If Keita or KYK mocks you after a block, instead of bitching about it to the refs, you block 'em back on the next play. Or spike a ball hard at them, score the point, and stare them down! That's sports. That's competition.

So far, Hi-pass looks like the prime candidate to finish last... They might fight with KGC for this honor.

Kelsie's swings look awkward, slow and weak compared to the other foreigners. Still not very efficient. I'm not a huge fan of Lucia. Kelsie seems to be a bit weaker. She looks more like a MB to me... We'll have to see more. But Kim Jong-min will dream of Rousseaux every night for the months to come!

Lee Go-eun is arguably playing like the worst setter in the game. Their libero is old and has visibly slowed down (she had a 0% reception efficiency in the second set, I think?). Their MB players are closer to retirement than their prime. Park Jeong-ah was far from clutch.

At this point, I'm curious to see how a Kelsie/Yoo-na lineup in the middle would look. On the right, put Ha Hye-jin in for attacks or Moon Jung-won for defense.

With the addition of Rousseaux and the return/rebirth of Kim Ju-ha + Kim Yeon-gyeong, Hyundai became the best defensive team in the league. Even when Minky and Go Ye-rim are struggling to score, they can still kill you by keeping the ball alive. Very impressive floor defense as a team. Setter Kim Da-in surprised me with a few great diggs!

Jung Ji-yoon 2.0 is a more mature and improved finisher. Her versatility allows you to use her as OPP and run with YHJ, GYR and Rouss on the court (Minky on the bench). GOAT Yangppong, even on an off day can give you 10 points or more. Rousseaux is the most "complete" volleyball player in the league next to KYK. Only their setters are question marks. Kim Da-in has done well, but she's still unproven. Can she stay consistent? Not a big fan of Lee Na-yeon.

Hillstate looks like a team that will be hard to fight, where each point against them will have to be earned. Even if I really wouldn't mind to see them fail (RIP Go Yoo-min, NEVER FORGET), they'll be right at the top with Heungkuk. Can't wait for their next clash!
