OH-MY-FREAKING-GOD! I was thinking just yesterday how cool would be to be able to watch the replays of last VNL! You're a mind-reader! Amazing stuff! <3

I would try to sign up quick and watch before they decide to take it down or make you pay for it lol.

For those interested, you can get the Volleyball TV Unlimited Pass for free at volleyballworld.tv

It is said to expire on 31.08.2020, but my account still works (I applied a couple days before the deadline) and they haven't taken it off the website.

All the 2019 FIVB international games (and some 2018) are available for free.

I'm re-binge-watching all the Korea games from the VNL (when they still sucked: how the F do you lose against Bulgaria!) all the way to the World Cup in Japan.

It's the hitting/attacking success rate. You can do the calculations yourself to verify with the link below.

    For example, Lazareva had 36 successful hits on 76 attempts => 36/76 = 47.37%

She also had 1 ace and 1 block for a total of 38 points, but the "efficiency" indicator here only calculates hits.

For the reception % in Korea, it's the standard (Perfect - Errors)/Attempts.

    For example Hwang Min-kyung => (14-5)/33 = 27.27%

Well she scored 26 points with 38% efficiency in her first official match vs Heungkuk (0-3) in the KOVO Cup last month, and just yesterday she carried IBK to a 3-1 win with 38 points scored (47% efficiency), so I would say she's doing a fine job so far :D

What's even more impressive to me is her 20 diggs, just one shy of her libero Shin Yeon-gyeong. She's now third in the entire league (granted only two games have been played so far...) in diggs behind liberos Oh Ji-young and Shin Yeon-gyeong. That's how insane her first game was. And even in the KOVO Cup, we saw how good she was on the defensive side.

The new foreign players this year are good defenders as well. We know about Rousseaux, but even if she wasn't in the greatest shape during the Kovo Cup, Kelsie impressed me as a defender.

It's gonna be a good year my friends!

KGC rookie Lee Sun-woo is getting her first shifts. Even got a block on Lazareva! Great debut!

Come on coach Woo-jae, let's unleash Choi Jeong-min!

Even rookie libero Kim Soo-bin had a chance to serve!

Poor Jung Ho-young :(. I hope she won't have to miss too many games. Her knees seem to have snapped:(. What a great talent for the future of Korean volleyball. Wish her a good recovery.

Edit: And why the heck did the security dudes take this much time to bring out a stretcher??? Where the heck was the medical staff?

Shin Yeon-gyeong is playing a hell of a game! For a recently converted libero, I thought she would suffer a lot but... If she keeps playing like this, IBK's defense line might be decent after all! They still need a Lee So-young type of player to really take it to the next level (Go Ye-rim would have looked really good with this team...).

WHAT A GAME! We're in for a great season folks! QueenYK is back, the foreign players this year are fucking GOOD (maybe the most skilled 6 ever?), young stars are emerging, the players will sweat hard for a chance to crack the Olympic team... Can't wait for more!!!

Shout-out to Jung Ji-yoon, who improved a lot. She's a one-way cannon that can attack from everywhere. Teams will have to figure out where the hell she is at all times.

I wonder how long they will be able to keep using the three-person receiving system with their current roster before they revert back to a two-person receiving system. I can already see opposition teams going after Park Jeong-Ah and Jeon Sae-Yan.

Yeah lol! But a two-person system might not be sustainable over a full season, with a high risk of running Moon to the ground. Her efficiency will go down anyway... Can Kelsie receive? In IBK, I think they did it by committee with Park, Madi, Kim Mi-yeon and libero Nam Jie-youn. If Kim Hee-jin plays as center, you could put those four on the same court and hide Park. When Hee-jin slides to the right, it becomes more like a two-person system...

It's funny that a team already stacked with great defenders like Hyundai got even stronger defensively with Rousseaux while two teams (IBK and KEC) plagued with unstable reception both picked a pure attacker. It would have been very difficult to pass on a talent like Lazareva though... Pick her and get some help later via trade and whatnot...

Interesting from Hi-pass coach. Last year, they employed mostly a two-person receiving system with Moon Jung-won and Yim Myung-ok. This year, they'll go back to a traditional three-person system where Park Jeong-ah and Jeon Sae-yan will participate with the reception. If this works, Moon can get a breather and be more effective on the attack.

The middle was identified as a weakness. Bae Yoo-na is back, but they have little depth at that position. Coach might use Kelsie as MB from time to time. Moon Jung-won and Ha Hye-jin would then play on the right.

Strong determination from Payne, who said that barring injuries she'll stay with the team until the end. Last season was a karma year for them foreign player wise. With the way they threw away Sherridan, it was only poetic justice that the players they brought to replace her shat the bed for them. But that's just my opinion...

Some interesting BTS footage of the AVC 2020 qualification finals between Korea and Thailand. It's been posted online only recently.

2020-2021 V-League Season Preview. I'm paraphrasing from what I could understand from the translation...

    Part 1 - Hyundai

    https://sports.news.naver.com/…hn?oid=530&aid=0000006022

Strength: Yang Hyo-jin and the center line. Jung Ji-yoon is practicing both as a MB and a WS. She needs to improve her receiving skills to work as a wing player. Between them and Lee Da-hyun, the middle should be a position of strength. They all complete each other well.

Weakness: Depth at the WS position. Hwang Min-kyung and Go Ye-rim take a large share of the receiving, even more than the libero, and are also responsible for the attacks coming from the wings. Since both are not very tall, the effort they have to make both on attack (especially jumping) and defense will take a physical toll during the hard grind of a season. This could have a negative effect on their performances, particularly on their attack efficiency.

Question marks: Lee Na-yeon. The high dependency on middle attacks. At the KOVO Cup, the attack share from the center was higher than the wings. Teams will certainly adjust to that.

    My own two cents:

Lee Na-yeon is obviously the big ? here. She has shown through her play at IBK to be inconsistent and at times mentally weak. Though the blame put on her might be exaggerated since her former team had piss poor reception last year. Depth at the libero position is also a question mark for me. When healthy, Kim Yeon-gyeon is IMO a top-3 libero in the game. But we saw last year the dire consequences of her absence on the team (RIP). I don't really trust the other two... It will be interesting to see if Han Mi-reu, the libero kid they just drafted will see any playing time. Han is an interesting case as she used to be a setter (and even played as the primary setter at the last U18 before Park Hye-jin), but her 166 cm stature made her change into a libero. If she can develop into a libero who can toss and act as a second setter, she would be unique in Korea, someone who Lavarini would have loved to coach.

I can't wait to watch how Rousseaux plays for this team. She is an injury risk, but when healthy last year was the second best scorer in the Turkish League just behind Bošković. And she can defend too!

If HMK or GYR get hurt, they're in trouble. The team doesn't have any young kid who can replace one of them even on a short term. Jeon Ha-ri is basically just a serve specialist at this point. They got two defensive players at the draft and a center, but no one to help the attack on the wings.

So I feel that slowly converting Jung Ji-yoon into a Kim Hee-jin type of hybrid OP who can slide in as MB from time to time would benefit her both on a personal and team perspective. She's not a natural center and is a bit short for the job (although it is sufficient for the V-League; see Bae Yoo-na for ex.). Place her in a position where you can hide her from receiving duties (until she gets better... or not, just ask Park Jung-ah...). With Rousseaux able to play both sides, you would have 4 able WS you can rotate to keep opponents guessing + Hwang Youn-joo as a bonus backup. And JJY can also give relief to YHJ and a young inconsistent LDH.

So a VERY early look at Team Korea for the Olympics (if it ever happens in 2021). Of course, a lot of change will happen this season, but let's just try to take a look at the roster as it stands right now.

Since, we can only bring 12 players, selection becomes even more crucial than other international competitions.

I think Lee So-young should be a shoe-in for a spot. She's a better defender than Pyo Seung-ju, much more versatile than Moon Jung-won and more efficient than Go Ye-rim.

The middle is a weakness. I've got a lot of love for Han Song-yi and wish her nothing less than a medal to complete her illustrious career, but for the sake of the team, it would be better to bring fresher legs. The question is who? They lack strength, someone capable of quick, mobile attacks. Jung Ji-yoon has shown flashes of impressive power at times, but is still too raw and lacks fundamentals. Lee Joo-ah, if I may be honest, still hasn't displayed any particular qualities that would warrant a selection. My dream would be for Jung Ho-young to explode this season and take over the game. In two years or less, she will chew other centers in the league, so even better if it happens sooner. As of right now, there is no one to take Han Song-yi's spot. Let's see what happens during the season!

Alternately, you could also choose to only bring two natural MB since Kim Hee-jin can moonlight as a center. That would allow you to bring another player, maybe a defensive specialist (Moon?) or a backup OP.

On the right side, you just got to go with Kim Hee-jin and Park Jeong-ah, I don't think there's a debate... Same thing for the setters. I love Cho Song-hwa, but she's too slow... Unless a young kid like Ahn Hye-jin destroys the league this season, it's gonna be hard to take a spot.

The libero spot is the interesting one. With Kim Hae-ran gone (although I read somewhere that she might try to be back after giving birth), Lavarini said that he would leave that spot open and decide while watching the season. Oh Ji-young would be a safe if not obvious choice. Last year, Yim Myung-ok's performance was the best among her peers (her reception efficiency rate was 51,9%. INSANE). But can she repeat this performance and she'll be 35 at the Olympics...
