I have never seen any videos of Maiko Kano on the court playing with Saori, Araki etc. did she only make the NT for London? because that was the only thing that solidified her reputation

I wouldn't say it solidified her rep as a player. Her face landed her a career after volleyball. She's easy to look at, has good style and is not awkward.

    yep and yep

When I first got into this and was learning about, googling, players I couldn't escape this one gif of her wiggling her ass . never saw her in a highlight reel playing volleyball

Did she even play during the London Olympics:/ she just seems like that one girl who was hanging out with Japan's best players. She is gorgeous though and yeah she did make the NT but her actual skills as a player are sus.

The people here saying Miyashita's toss is low... when did it get lower? Her toss looks incredibly angled at the best height. What's the difference between her and Sato's tosses that gave Sato the upper hand in 2019?

PFU post-Ebata doesn't have any stars so it's easier for Valdes to shine there. Valdes is a fast player. I don't like Tahara as a setter, too slow, too low. That might be one of the cons if she's going to be their regular setter but Yamashita is also very meh.

FIVB's official photographer in Japan is quite entertaining on IG. I wish I knew how to save instagram stories. I guess they fired that hentai photographer who was also the photographer during Araki's wedding.

Anyway dude doesn't like Kurogo but very subtle on the shade. I think he's the one who runs japan.volleyball as he also speaks perfect English and is able to post every content without it getting taken down. His faves seem to be Koga, Nagaoka and Mayu.

You folks probably saw the news but I don't think it was posted here that Yuki Ishii doesn't want to end on a remote-retirement. She wants to give it to the fans, bask in their love, so she's going to hang with SAGA (or somewhere?). Done with the NT though. As if

    Yahoo!

Ishii was so detached from the NT that I can see why she wouldn't want to compete with the likes of Kurogo anymore if ever she gets chosen again. I think it's better she preserve her reputation that way. Since she is one of Hisamitsu's stars she's not legally allowed to move out of there. Iwasaka mentions it in her last interview while promoting her and Shinnabe's "Athlete's Card"

Yoshihara's former teammate, Motoko Obayashi, said JT is a goofy team that doesn't overthink situations. Momii is clearly a fave there's no denying that, Tanaka seems to be one of her faves too. The girl beside Tanaka on the left is the team clown, I don't know her name but she also gets along well with Drews.

The question of whether they will even qualify actually scares me.

For the time being, the least JVA could do is make them compete more. They have nothing to do post-Olympics but they should put them in a friendly match with Netherlands or Germany (with Lippmann) really anything to make them active.

We all know Japanese fans pressured Nakada to produce the next Saori but I hope Yoshihara won't do that with Koga. Let her fill the role naturally. Nakada forced Kurogo to be the next Nagaoka and she cracked under pressure. Aim to make a team that will beat the current best players of the world not a team that will replace the great players in the past.

And incorporate back attacks because that's the only way for them to get past the height issue.

This is why I'm curious about who people think is/has been running the show, and why

It's reasonable to draw a conclusion that it was either Nakada or Aihara. I just don't want to hear that anybody thinks it's Aihara because some guy in Brazil posted it to his instagram

Ishii and Nagaoka are the takeaway. Nakada has always been extremely attached to her Hisamitsu girls. The fact that she wanted Nagaoka til the very end that she brought her to Italy even knowing that she may not have been able to handle what Nakada wanted her to do after seeing Kurogo's behaviour during the China friendly match. Ishii is neither injured nor is her performance so bad that she is reduced to a being a sub but that's the extent of her participation.
