i saw on cnn that japan is currently in a state of emergency due to the spike of corona cases. the situation over there isn't getting any better at all. at least it wasn't cancelled.

The problem is not foreigners or not. eg. Turkey has a high quality league, but overrelies on foreigners and as a result their NT is not as strong as their league would suggest. In particular they are lacking in OHs/OPPs which is completely expected since those are the hot money-making positions and there tends to be foreigners going there. Italy is strong in both league and NT. Serbia and US don't really have strong leagues but have strong national teams.

The problem is the transfer system that allowed transfers of team members into final 4 teams after they were determined. So Beijing's setter and libero didn't have the opportunity to play SFs and Finals when they worked hard to get there.

As Gabi said Turkey is currently the superstar league. Any player who wants to establish themselves can certainly thrive and become even more known there, provided of course that they get into the top teams and more importantly meet the expectations. A lot of focus shifts towards foreigners if they overpower everyone else and that's basically where they build the foundation in the league so when they finally form their NT, there's a gap in the development of their own players.

I suppose I don't find it odd that there's a lack of interest. Every sport except football are experiencing some kind of sponsorship issue because of Corona's effects.

It's a little late to think about it now but I find it weird that Japan is isolating their female players. Why weren't there any players sent to play at international leagues? It could certainly help push a little more hype towards the women's team since Kimura's departure. And now they seem reluctant to make them compete at VNL.

It's not a matter of isolation. There were simply no offers.

Nagaoka trained with a foreign therapist, same guy who worked on Kosheleva, along with JVA/Hisamitsu's inhouse physiotherapists.

I don't know with Sato because Hitachi hasn't put out any updates about her. Sato herself hasn't really reassured fans of her condition. It would've been ideal last March 7 during her birthday. Which is why I'm concluding that her injury isn't as severe to begin with but that maybe she just felt it was necessary to rest. That's not how it was presented when they suddenly switched her as an assistant coach at Hitachi but whatever they didn't bother elaborating.

It's a bad idea that they settle for just one friendly match and opt out of VNL. A huge disadvantage on their part not knowing how and what to adjust before the Olympics in case Nakada's plan to use both Sato and Nagaoka fail. A setter is especially crucial. Nakada's about to exit with this so it's not about her nurturing the younger players. She will ultimately use players whose style and technique she's already familiar with.

That can't be it. They need to reconsider all their options. Nakada took in two "recovering" players who she will most likely highly rely on: Nagaoka and Sato and the whole point of preserving them was to see how they'd be able to hold up playing in an international stage.

I Agree. Ishii hasnt been impressive this season in the V league. That reflects on their rankings. I would count more on Sarina Koga as she played really well this year. Seems like her good form is back. I would rather see Mayu Ishikawa play as a starter than Ishii.

Ishii is guaranteed to be one of the starters. The best thing about her is her stamina and she's also a Nakada veteran. She will likely be far more motivated in the NT where everything else is reinforced.

If you noticed, JVA already started pushing Kurogo to be the center. My guess is that it will be Araki, Koga, Kurogo and Mayu as the main PR stars for the Olympics.

All Nippon Airways stated that it will continue running it's campaign for Ryuji Nippon but not Hinotori which says a lot about their current state. Only Yuki Ishikawa is untouchable at the moment.

I used to root for Team Japan way back 2012 but after Saori's departure the team seems deteriorating. I still have no faith in the present line up of Japan's NT. Unless they will have 6 footers they will probably make a podium. But with their present rosters, 5th to 6th place would be the best spot for them. Only Ishii has the potential to go against the Big 4 (China, Brazil, USA, Serbia). They should develop taller players. Only Italy and Russia could steal the spot from the Big 4 right now.

The Men's has huge hope with Nishida and Ishikawa uprising. But still their opponents are also upgrading USA, Russia, Poland and Brazil. But I am seeing a potential podium finish in the Olympics for Japan Men's with the homecourt advantage.

Ishii has become a huge joke so if you think that she can even go up against Thailand right now then you need to take a good hard look at what kind potential you're talking about.

Nishida's performance has been incredible although he was mildly injured for awhile back. He needs to be more careful. Both him and Ishikawa are extremely motivated.

This story always felt off to me and that coach always felt off to me to be entirely honest, I know that Destinee herself is quite the character as well but I'm very open to finally hear her side hear on what happened years ago as well. Like I said, the entire thing was BEYOND off.

Dig Pink released something about it yesterday but it's since been deleted after a troll account claimed that other Black players are on the coach's side and downplaying it to attitude issues. I'm sure everyone just wants to know what really went down.

    well we kinda knew this

In last interviews she said she was happy and she didn't miss volleyball

That's not quite what she said. She's still willing to teach at schools/camps should they call her in as a guest but she's not looking to be part of a team to act as an adviser.
