  • What a terrible performance of these two liberos, the Exc.% reception of Bares is only 14%, and Szczygielska is only 7%...
    about Jerkov is only 5%...
It seems a boring match, the only surprise is that Cutura back to CRO team, and Aelbrecht is still a promising player, I like her!
Katic is starting setter for CRO, Grbac not, why?

  • grbac is injured, miletic broke her finger, they play really bad, one of the reasons is that thay didnt play any preparation match...

  • After another 3:0 victory France qualifies for final round

Salo, Finland, September 11, 2010. France’s girls booked this afternoon a ticket for the final round of the 2011 CEV European Championship. After having scored a 3:0 victory last week in Sélestat, France did not leave any chance to Finland in the return of the third and last qualification round, claiming also the second game in straight sets (25-23, 27-25, 25-19).
France controlled the match with good serving and they also displayed a more solid reception than the Finns. The French players exploited their greater experience in tough situations and made fewer mistakes than the hosts.
“The qualification to the European Championships was very important for me and the team. My group is still very young and we are very happy to get to the Championships”, said French coach Fabrice Vial.
French captain Anna Rybaczewski was the best scorer of her team with a total of 14 points. “Today we felt some pressure in the beginning, but after we won the first set we relaxed. We are very happy with the 3-0 victory”, Rybaczewski said.
The best scorer of the Finnish team was captain Riikka Lehtonen with 22 points, although she had problems with her knee and hip. “We were really focused in the first set and it was a shame that we couldn’t claim it. We made too many mistakes. However this match was better than the first one in France. Our level of playing was still going too much up and down”, Lehtonen stated.
The head coach of the Finnish team Tore Aleksandersen said that they knew that this match was going to be very difficult after the clear 0-3 loss in France.
“Today France served better and their major experience was to be felt too. We have to work really hard with the team for the next two years and for the next European qualification matches in 2012”, Aleksandersen said

  • Belgian girls hold on only for one set, Croatia qualifies for final round

Antwerp, Belgium, September 11, 2010. The girls of the Belgian national team clipped the first set of their return match against Croatia but then failed to maintain the right tempo and lost 2:3 (25-15, 21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 13-15) with Croatia qualifying for next year’s European Championship final round.
To qualify for the final round of the 2011 CEV European Championship the Belgian women’s national team needed to score a 3:1 or a 3:0 victory in the return match of the third and last qualification round against Croatia.
The well supported Belgian team displayed a tremendous performance in the opening set and completely surprised the opponents. With a weak defence and a lot of unforced reception errors Croatia also contributed to the very good start of the hosts. The Belgians with an exceptional good service, good defence from Leys and Renneboogh, the blocks of Bland and the attacks of Rousseaux took a decisive 6:0 break after the first technical break and that difference was too much for the visitors to try to catch up again (25-15).
Unfortunately the girls of coach Gert Vande Broek couldn’t reach that high level in the following two sets. They were harmed by five service faults and were forced to realize that Croatia had a better block. And even as the home team came back with Freya Aelbrecht, there was Croatian star Usic, making some important points. But after the 21-25 in the second set, the Belgians still had a chance to qualify if they had won the following two sets.
But an excellent Poljak, Jerkov and especially Usic didn’t see it that way. After trailing down 8:14 the Belgians came back with Rousseaux and Aelbrecht till 14:16, but again - after the second technical time-out - Usic made sure that Croatia will play next year the final round of the European Championship.
The last two sets were only good for the statistics.
“Just as in the first match, we were too nervous, we had too much respect for the Belgian team” explained Croatian coach Miroslav Aksentijevic. “We expected a strong fight from the Belgian team and I must congratulate them for this performance. They are building a good team for the future. But I’m very pleased with our qualification. It is also a good preparation for the World Championships, because we need a lot of tournaments to improve”.
“Sure, we have to improve in all kind of ways,” agreed top-player Usic. “We are not yet playing on a top level. And therefore this win is a good result”.
“After our easy win in the first set, we couldn’t reach the same level afterwards. We were too enthusiastic, so we forgot to do some tasks. I thought the right confidence would come back in the third set, but we were too quick losing easy points,” said Belgian coach Gert Vande Broek

  • Israel back to final round of European Championships after 39 years!

Ra’anana, Israel, September 11, 2010. After losing last week 3:2 in Minsk, the Israeli women’s national team hosted tonight Belarus for the most important Volleyball match in the last 39 years.

However, the local girls were still ready to battle to claim a spot for the final round of the 2011 CEV European Championship. In front of 1’500 spectators they opened the game on a high note (25-22) but the second set was totally dominated by Belarus (16-25). As they knew they could not afford lose another set, the girls around legendary coach Arie Selinger clawed back with real determination and clipped the third set 25-20.
