Germany - DVL 2011/12

  • Münster-Potsdam:

On Sunday there will be the next top match, Münster (4th) vs Schwerin (3rd). The teams with the longest tradition in German league meet each other...Münster is still unbeaten at home this season, so it should be an interesting match.
Any of the Dutch members will go there? ^^

It's amazing, at home Köpenick beats almost everyone but away they even struggle against the worst teams :white:
Tomorrow 14.30 CET the top match of the week Münster-Schwerin

  • Enjoy the atmosphere in Aachen, it's supposed to be unique

Well, the atmosphere was good, the match bad with a lot of unforced errors. But the Dresdner fans made more noise, maybe because I had a seat next to them, than the fans of Aachen. The Dresdner fans also started the wave and the speaker was very enthusiastic about the Dresdner fans and gave them a lot of

    Münster - Schwerin 2:3 (22:25 / 17:25 / 25:22 / 25:20 / 8:15)

MVP: Laura Weihenmaier / Lucia Kaiser

More than 2700 spectators came to see the top match in Münster :!: That's even more audience than Dresden and Schwerin had in their CL matches, so it shows the traditional value of the match. I hope Marieke can tell more about the game.

One thing I have noticed, this season MVP awards are given VERY often to setters and liberos. For me, this somehow shows the lack of outstanding attackers in German league...I'm not saying that the setters and liberos don't deserve the awards, but it gets kinda boring to read every week MVP Denise Hanke, Mareen Apitz, Lucia Kaiser...

  • I think Münster is THE 'Tradiotionsverein ' in German Women's volleyball, right? So that means volleyball is loved by the population in/around Münster. Which club has won more German titles, Münster or Schwerin? (because Schwerin writes about themsleves being 'Rekordmeister' on their homepage.)

Especially for Dutch Volleyball-fans (also for me), Münster has always been the only known/famous club in Germany (also because of many Dutch players in Münster-history: Staelens-sisters, Blom, Wensink, van Tienen..and now Sloetjes and von Piekartz).

  • Münster is the club with the biggest tradition in West Germany. They won (West and United) German Championship 9 times. Schwerin won Championship since German reunion 8 times and Championship of former DDR 7 times, so overall they won more titles. Both teams are far ahead of all other German teams in terms of success (not considering 25 times DDR Champion from Berlin...). Münster had big financial problems some years ago, so for some time they had just mediocre teams, this year they are finally back among the top teams, Schwerin always was there. Both clubs are also known for doing very good work on Junior level.

  • After two sets I thought schwerin was much better then munster:2-0 for schwerin. But then it was the time for Lonneke Sloetjes.
She was so good, and was getting all the balls from jelinkova.
But, when you know Lonneke, you know what happened the rest of the match. It was over and for the rest of her team too.
Schwerin won in five sets, with a good playing Anne Buijs. Especially her jumpserve was working really well.
Good to see her play on this level. Much better then two years ago.
Was fun to be in munster with almost 2700 crazy fans.
But the most funny part was after match...... Anne asked me for which team my support was today....... :cheesy:
I think you know my answer........ 51% for schwerin ( because of the Buijsjes) and 49% for munster ( lonneke and Tess) :dance4: :cup:

As usual, Köpenick wins at home against a team who actually has the better players, but this is no longer a surprise this season. With this victory they keep their chances for playoffs alive.
The season is leaving traces for many teams, a lot of players were missing today. Judith Pietersen played the last two matches with pain in her leg so she was rested today, also Tzscherlich didn't play for Dresden (but her replacement won MVP). Suhl was playing without Vendula Merkova and Suzana Cebic, she had a small surgery on Wednesday but on the same day played Challenge Cup match despite the pain, so today she was rested. Stuttgart is missing Kim Renkema (back injury) in addition to the long-term injured Tatjana Zautys. Vilsbiburg played most of the match without their captain Lina Meyer but Jennifer Todd returned to the team after some problems with her knee. Potsdam again had to play without Patricia Grohmann too...The tight schedule is definitely a big problem this season, it is a lot of strain for the players and no time to recover well from injuries

  • Köpenick-Hamburg:

It's not good quality currently, I guess it will be re-uploaded in better quality later...

    Wiesbaden-Münster:

There's a 1 minute rally starting at 1'45, but it's possibly the ugliest long rally ever. The referees simply ignored net touches and a whole lot of bad ball handling!

    Report about Stuttgart-VCO Berlin.

It's still not sure if Stuttgart's CEV Cup match in Urbino can take place on Wednesday due to the bad weather condition in Italy.

  • Dresdner SC announced that Stephanie Kestner and Nicole Schröber both have to finish their careers because of knee injuries. Kestner was one of the best OHs in German league in 2010/11 season but then she got a serious injury on her knee for the 2nd time and the rehab isn't going well, so she decided to give up professional sports. Also Nicole Schröber was a very talented young player, she had a knee surgery last year too and also she hasn't recovered well from it. She decided to concentrate on her job education for now...
Good luck to both for their future :flower:

Leverkusen-Aachen is one of the weirdest match results I've ever seen, for two sets Aachen did nothing and then they totally dominated. In 5th set Aachen's MB Ciara Michel served until 14:0 :white:
Dresden lost again for the first time after 17 consecutive victories in German league.
Tomorrow is another top match, Münster-Vilsbiburg. Any of the Dutch friends going to watch?
