I'm starting to like Hu Mingyuan, she kind of reminds me of Zheng Yixin. Both are short for middle blockers, but they are fast. Hu has a stronger block and lots of energy. I thought China had better receiving than the last match, but it's still a noticeable problem for the new players. Looks like Lang Ping either decided to give Li Yingying a rest and or teach her a lesson that she needs to work harder on her reception.

Speaking of Russia in this tournament, Voronkova is playing really well she just needs to learn how to pass the block and not hit with power all the time. She will be Russia's other main weapon come WCH. Malykh it seems has learned to attack more efficiently in Position 4, and Parubets has improved her attacking as well but these two I think is still a question mark once they play against the big teams. Fetisova is still Russia's best blocking MB, and Efimova needs to improve her blocking but she is the most efficient in the slide. Romanova seems to have lost weight and it shows she is more quick in her setting but she needs to have a connection with her MBs more especially if the pass is usable. Talisheva is nothing special, but if Malova does not return I hope Kryuchkova gets invited back to WCH.

Voronkova looked really good, but I agree she needs to learn to not rely on power hits alone and change it up from time to time. Her strong spikes against a solid block will just come back at her even harder making it difficult to pick up. The Russian setter, Romanova was fast to react and set the balls well to her outside hitters and opposites. Malykh shows great promise, but will be hard to determine how well she maintains her skills if she will be the second opposite behind Goncharova.

I guess Yang Hanyu hasn't fully recovered from her injury considering that she was the only player that didn't play against Poland. Hope she recovers well because none of China's new middle blockers have been playing well with the exception of Hu Mingyuan(187cm), but her height is her biggest down fall. Wang Yuanyuan(195cm) though is tall, she doesn't provide much offense or defense and seems to have a hard time reading the opponents. It could be too early to tell since it is only the second week. Their lack of experience shows and the bad passing makes it difficult for Ding Xia/Yao Di to set the middles. Even though Lang Ping is testing her youngsters, someone needs to step up and soon.

Heard the tournament extends to June so likely will miss HK and Jiangmen as well.

Well I guess that's kinda a good thing since Lang Ping is focused on training the newcomers. They will get more playing time and experience with the absence of Yuan Xinyue, Gao Yi, and Liu Yanhan. It will mainly affect Gao Yi since she only played one week in the VNL tournament. I expect more losses for China, but it will be a great learning lesson and since they are hosting, they shouldn't be worried as much. Just focus on trying their best and overcoming their mistakes.

I was thinking that also. Gong would be good at the setter position not to mention the added height. Yao Di and Diao Linyu seems to not be cutting it. Hopefully a new potential setter will emerge next season if Gong remains in the opposite position.

Serbia will be the biggest challenge next week, but it also depends on what roster Serbia brings and plays with.

For Week 2, China I think should bring:

OH: Keep Liu Xiaotong, Li Yingying, and Liu Yanhan, but replace Zhang Yichan with Duan Fang.
OP: Give Yang Fangxu a rest and put Zeng Chunlei, depending on how Yang's leg is feeling after these past matches.
    S: Same as Week 1
MB: I don't think Yan Ni should be needed this week, that way Lang Ping can see who out of the this three, (Wang Yuanyuan, Hu Mingyuan, and Gao Yi) will step up and perform well.
L: Rest Lin Li and bring back Wang Mengjie that way Meng Zixuan can gain more experience.

The coach of China, Serbia, Brazil, USA had a meeting in the beginning of week1. They decide to lose one dramatic match in week1 at the same time. :cheesy: :cheesy:

Now the world champion is Netherlands. Congratulations! :win:

:rolll: Netherlands still has a long way to go before competing for a medal. The way I look at it, one of these four teams (China, Serbia, Brazil, and USA) will win gold at this event.

Lang Ping did state before this competition that it'll be a test for their new players, their will be some challenges and losses to overcome. Korea's coach was very verbal while Lang Ping sat quietly examining her players self adjustment. Korea played their best match today while China did not, which is still a surprise, but I'm sure Lang Ping doesn't stress over it that much. She's very patient with her players and knows that mistakes aren't something you learn from overnight. Great job to Korea, onto the next week of matches!

I'm surprised Liu Yanhan is still hanging around. Not bad but nothing special. Some might say the same of Liu Xiaotong, but Xiaotong has a stronger will, a way better serve, and is freaky reliable during crunch time. Total Pro

I agree, Liu Xiaotong is a much better all around player not to mention more consistent than Liu Yanhan. Yanhan's presence on the national team puts pressure on the newcomers to increase their skill level and also puts pressure on herself since she is a veteran with more experience than them.

It'll be interesting to see how well Yang Fangxu has recovered and if she still can perform a great level. Can't wait to see the debut of Li Yingying with the national team.

    China 21 player roster

Outside Hitter: Zhu Ting, Liu Xiaotong, Liu Yanhan, Duan Fang, Zhang Yichan
Opposite: Zeng Chunlei, Yang Fangxu, Gong Xiangyu, Li Yingying
Middle Blocker: Yan Ni, Yuan Xinyue, Gao Yi, Wang Yuanyuan, Yang Hanyu, Hi Mingyuan
Setter: Ding Xia, Yao Di, Diao Linyu
Libero: Lin Li, Wang Mengjie, Meng Zixuan

New Faces: Duan Fang, Zhang Yichan, Li YingYing, Yang Hanyu, Hu Mingyuan, Meng Zixuan

Patiently waiting for China to release their roster for the first week of VNL. Since they are challenging easier teams Dominican Republic, South Korea, and Belgium, the veterans should get a rest and let new players get some experience against international teams.

Vakifbank is the best place for her to work at. I think Langping will require her going back to china in olympic year! Her main target is this year's world championship and 2020 tokyo olympics. :box:

The season after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will probably be when she returns Vakifbank. If China's new star Li Yingying proves her worth, she will most likely be able to go abroad also after the olympics.
