I think Zhu might stay with Vakif for the 2018-2019 season, if they add more key players to help her out. With Gozde retiring, Naz being pregnant and if the rumours of Rasic and Lonneke possibly leaving are true, then the work load will be heavy on Zhu. Hopefully they don't overuse her and risk injury. Maybe she will return to China for the following 2019-2020 season, it would be a smart decision to keep her healthy and get a head start practicing with national team before the Tokyo Olympics since the China season ends earlier.

Is there another link I could watch the replay?

really? i diddnt know Jenny LangPing was in the gym..
agree with you..Ting Zhu was more succesful in adjusting/preparing herself to the other games than Boşkoviç in these final series

I don't think Lang Ping was at the game, she is in China training the new national team roster for next months VNL. China has a variety of young potential players that needs focus and developing from Lang Ping.

In any kind of sports, I noticed great players are those that can adjust and remain mentally calm during times of pressure.

VNL is every year so not a big deal not winning it. Main tournaments are always the quadrennial World tourneys. Hopefully everyone is healthy for WCh. Let see if there will be another breakout young star this year. My bet is on Li Yingying. Hope she does well.

I also have high hopes for Li Yingying at VNL. With Lang Ping as coach, I expect Li to surprise other teams. Yang Han-yu could be another breakout, hope she is training well.

Hi Tomen, this facebook page I linked below made a post saying that Zhang Changning will miss the VNL and needs 4 months to heal from her surgery. Have you heard any more news about her current state?
Her safety and recovery is most important at this time instead of the competition. I hope other players will be able to step up and help team China.

My guess for the 14 player roster for VNL week 1:

OH: Zhu Ting, Liu Xiaotong, Li Yingying, Duan Fang
    OPP: Zeng Chunlei, Gong Xiangyu
MB: Yuan Xinyue, Wang Yuanyuan, Gao Yi, Yang Hanyu
    S: Ding Xia, Yao Di
    L: Lin Li, Wang Mengjie

    - I think Zhu will still be on the roster for the first week, but will most likely be on the bench similar to first week of 2017 Grand Prix. As captain, she will help guide and cheer her team from the sidelines and will sub in when only necessary.
    - I think Yao Di will be preferred over Diao Linyu due to her great performance this season and also because of her connection with Li Yingying and Wang Yuanyuan.
    - I don't think Yang Fangxu is ready to play yet. Zeng is already a seasoned player and doesn't really need this competition as practice, but I think Lang will put her in to stabilize the pass and also provide consistent offense.
    - Zhang Changning and Yan Ni will most likely be resting and recovering, this will allow other potential players to gain experience and prove themselves.

Zhu Thing is the BEST ATTACKER/KILLER in the outside position, that's it. I love Zhu, I admire her so much, but Imma keep it 100%. Calling her THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD when Kim Yeonkoung (the best all around female player) is still alive is a bit of reach for me. Zhu is a killing machine -- but being an outside hitter, receiving is one of your main jobs and that is where Zhu is lacking right now. With more years receiving and receiving, she will definitely be THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD.

But again, this kinda topic is always subjective. There is no black and white in terms of who is the best player in the world. Zhu is definitely one of them.

I would have to agree, Kim is a better all around volleyball player and has more experience than Zhu. However, I will have to say that Zhu is the most popular volleyball player as of right now. The awards and medals she achieved till this point is amazing especially since she is only 23 and still has many more years to come. I think her receiving is something that will always be her weakpoint because of her tall 198cm height, though I believe she can still make some little improvements in that area. People need to stop comparing volleyball greats because they are all different in their own way. Both Zhu and Kim always gives their best and provides a thriller match. Kim's hardwork in London 2012 showed her level and skill winning MVP as well as best scorer just shy of the bronze medal. Kim will make a great future coach for Korea sharing her knowledge with new volleyball generations to come. One or even multiple games lost is not the end of the world, but more of a guide to help you learn from your mistakes and become better. After all, we will encounter many problems and loses throughout our life, but doesn't mean we are a failure. It just means that we have to come back stronger than the person we were before. Vakif will use this loss as a lesson to work even harder, just like how Eczacibasi used their loss to comeback and win.

I was thinking if Lang Ping wants to develop a taller setter, Zheng Yixin would be a good fit to try and convert. She is still at a good age born in 1995. At a height of 187cm, she doesn't have a chance to battle for a middle blocker position against Gao Yi(194cm), Wang Yuanyuan(195), and Yang Hanyu(197cm) who are also much younger. Ding Xia is still the main setter at 180cm, and the next close person would be Yao Di at 182cm. Although Meng Dou is 189cm, Zheng is faster and already has more experience playing the game, just at a different position. Gong Xiangyu is also a good choice to move back to setter if she doesn't improve as an opposite.

Has Yang Fang-xu fully recovered from her leg injury? I bet Lang Ping will test some of the new outside hitters at the opposite position and see how they perform there, just in case Yang Fang-xu injures her leg again.

A lot of the new incoming players for China's national team seem to be bad at reception. This is something I'm sure Lang Ping is helping them learn as she likes well rounded players. I wonder who will be on the roster for Week 4 since it'll be their toughest week against team Brazil, Russia, and United States. To bad Yang Hanyu got injured, this would've been a good chance for her to get more experience. Hope she has a safe recovery.

In the event Goncharova decides to move out from Russia (I hope she does really), I hope she goes to Turkey and Fenerbahce signs her.

I can imagine KYK x Eda x Goncharova will definitely rival Zhu x Rasic x Sloetjes

Goncharova has so much potential. I hope she leaves Russia as well. She isn't getting any younger already 28 years old. Fenerbache or Galatasaray could use her.

It really depends on how well Li Yingying plays against other countries, especially her reception. Zhang Changning is recovering from injury which has affected her reception this season. Lang Ping likes tall players so this starting lineup is very likely to happen if Li passes her test. Lang Ping takes skills over seniority so Zeng will have to start from the bench if there is a better option than her. Gong started her career as a setter so she could move back to that position if playing OP is not working. A 188cm setter with athleticism is preferable by Lang Ping.

I remember reading that about Gong before. She does have great height and athleticism if she were to go back to becoming a setter, especially since Diao Linyu hasn't played that well this season due to her injury. Yao Di has been playing well in the Chinese League, but still needs more experience playing on a high level against international teams. Although Lang Ping recently recruited Meng Dou (189cm) for setter training, she seems a bit slow in the games she checked in for Yao Di.

Noticed that Zhang Changning was enlisted as Cohesion (Opposite) on the 2018 training list. With the arrival of Li Yingying for the main attack, I wonder if Lang decided to move Zhang to opposite because of her better block against the opposing side. In my opinion, Zhang does well in that position especially with a questionable Yang Fangxu, the regression of Gong Xiangyu, and an aging Zeng Chunlei. Seems like there is no new upcoming opposite talent coming soon just yet. Still waiting for Chen Peiyan to improve her skills.

Will this be the starting lineup we will be seeing in coming Women's World Championship?
    OH: Zhu Ting, Li Yingying
    OPP: Zhang Changning
    MB: Yuan Xinyue, Yan Ni
    S: Ding Xia
    L: Lin Li

Oh please. I guess pretty much every club in the world wants to have her now, but no 18 year old Chinese girl will ever (be allowed to) play abroad

Yeah, I don't think Tianjin will let her go just yet. She still needs quite a bit of developing on her receiving and mainly blocking, not to mention that she hasn't played against international teams on a high level yet. Can't wait to see how she does in the volleyball nations league beside Zhu which I'm pretty sure her name will be in the roster. The Fenerbahce scout probably told her to work on a few things and then they will make an agreement to sign together within a couple years.

Thanks Tomen! Nice to see some new faces participate and have fun all together. Great way for new potential players to bond and play with the current national members. Hope Yan Ni and Zhang Chang-ning's injuries aren't severe, wish them a healthy recovery!
