The media is already obsessed with Mayu so JVA's execs (and not necessarily Nakada) is dead set on making her rise to the occasion. Considering her brother is the only major headline right now, I'm sure there's tremendous pressure for her to prove herself. I don't think anyone else would be able to overshadow Mayu.

I don't see Nagaoka taking any risks after her last surgery.

We should just give up on arguing about ishii's starting role. I remember in one of FIVB's highlight videos one of the top comments said Ishii is a failed cut-shot experiment... I think about it every time I watch her play

On another note, not that any of us here can vote since this is only available in Japan, but Oricon has opened their annual poll for favorite athletes. People can vote via Oricon's app.

Last year the only volleyball player to make the cut is of course Miyashita at 10th place. Sasuga crybaby https://www.oricon.co.jp/special/53730/

It would be nice if she makes it again this year.

Agreed. Ebata rarely gets off the bench with PFU. The NT is not an option.

I guess it wouldn't be that drastic to send Nakada packing and put Coach Lovebunny in charge, but to be fair-ish to Nakada I think she took the job assuming Nagaoka and Kurogo would be her foundation this cycle. That didn't happen. Think if it would have. A lot of people seem to think of Japan as this "thing" rather than a group of individual players whose health and appearance matter a lot, just like every other team in the world.

Wasn't it Aihara's suggestion to revive Nagaoka

PFU has really gone downhill but hopefully Ebata should be okay now. She's going to participate this season. It would be great if she could rejoin the NT again.

Ishii is not an ace, not a top scorer, not an mvp and was never considered best at anything. The only time she stood out was when Shinnabe, Koga and Kurogo were at their weakest.

If things go right for Nagaoka this time, she should be the face.

Ebata rejoining the NT or rather Nakada setting eyes on her is a long shot. I think Ebata should help lift PFU's image first. A lot of younger players are fighting for the spot. Plus Nakada said it herself, her focus is on Nagaoka's revival and Toray's combo.

Tbh it's impossible to tell if any drastic changes will occur after this season. Motivation is also an issue for a lot of players right now, even Nishida is talking about it.

I've been subscribed for two seasons. You need a Japanese Bank credit card, but there are some worldwide banks that work--or did when I signed up. I don't cancel during the off season for fear I won't be able to sign back up. There is no download option for the videos, everything is VOD, going back a few years. The VTV matches are VOD within hours but you have to wait 30 days to see the non-VTV matches. The quality of the VTV streams is pretty horrible compared to the DAZN broadcasts. I'm hoping it improves this year

Man I gave up on DAZN their streaming service is whack. What about Gaora? is it better over there?

I just wanna see this presscon so bad lol. They never release it anywhere else. I was able to make an account already but I don't know if I'll be able to access anything.

Have you guys tried watching through Vleague TV on their site? can you download the videos?

I wanna tune in during the presscon on the 2nd since it's free but I wanna be able to download it too. I might not be able to watch it throughout due to the time difference. Also knowing Japan, hopefully it's not blocked to outside viewers.

what does "face" mean? Like most popular team member?

The ace of the team like Gabi is to Brazil or Zhu Ting to China etc. Japan lacks an ace with actual clout. Nagaoka should have been that had she not been injured twice. We'll see if Kurogo or Mayu snatches that title

TBS Interview with Erika last Monday

    *trans via shojigen

    - there will be drastic changes to the NT's strategy for major games (not seen during the remote match)

    - she says the women's NT currently doesn't have a "face" (so it's definitely not Ishii)

    - she admits that the NT is lacking -something- but doesn't specify on which area

    - there's more pressure for the women's NT to perform better since the men's NT has been doing incredibly well and because Tokyo Olympics have been a very sensitive topic among the general public she says they really hope to make the most of next year's international games.

    - she hopes more people will support women's teams in general to motivate the players

    - her daughter isn't showing interest in volleyball atm so Erika can't say for sure if her daughter will play volleyball when she grows up

uploaded yesterday on tbs official yt

huge pressure for Nagaoka, Aratani headlining for Victorina and that quiet girl from JT whose name I really don't know. Especially crucial for Nagaoka since Nakada is counting on her regardless of her condition and will never settle for Nomoto. Dark horse would probably be another girl whose name I don't know from Saitama, the one included in the recent red and white match. And of course future Araki, Yamada from NEC.

Yuri Yoshino from Saitama and... are you referring to Aika Akutagawa from JT?

imo Nagaoka's strength hasn't diminished. Clearly needs polishing but the force + speed is still the same. and despite her saying she's only at 50% I think she's fed up with being a supporter and craves court action otherwise she would have already retired during her first injury.

New interview with Miyashita post remote-match

(rough trans via shojigen on twitter) She dodged the Olympic question but says she intends to do her best to prepare for next year. she said that despite the whole corona situation and Okayama initially planning to decline to participate in the V.League since their basketball team in the area already dropped out, they don't really have a choice.

Is it available to stream outside of Japan? I don't trust Okayama when it comes to engaging with fans. It's a miracle that they're even streaming it lol

Are the players and staff not required to have test done 1st before the training start?

Afaik it is. For example Okayama and Hisamitsu did their tests ahead of their training camp and JVA also did tests on the selected players before they went ahead with their camp, which was cut short. I'm not completely sure about the schedule of each team because it seems during the time when Zen Nippon was in training camp some of them were on break while the rest held their camps then.
