Well yes, it's actually not a lot compared to Lee Dayoung's article about her playing in Romania, and the news about her playing in France.

I wonder how many people will turn out in Suwon though. Even if it's homecourt, nobody wants to watch a losing match.

There's more interest for news about her 2+ years later compared to the National Team lol:gone:

I heard Suwon tickets were sold out? Not sure but I did see more people trying to sell them after Week 2 of VNL

I can't imagine being the Korean players and losing 0-3 every match played at home, perhaps they'll steal one set from Bulgaria too

I think the Korean people are not happy with the Korean team's performance as well... well people are rarely happy on Naver but still. 137 angry reactions say it all.

137 isn't considered much haha, its poor to the point some matches aren't even being broadcasted and there are barely any news coverage on it since it is the same repeated article every match

General consensus is that they know the players aren't performing well, since last year. They used to praise Cesar post-Olympics but now its more towards disdain and ignoring him.

I mean even KR team was in low period back then but their fighting spirit was still high. I don't see fire in players' eyes right now.

It's the same in the domestic league, the competitiveness in players have dropped by a lot

I felt like the competitiveness in 2020/21 was at an all time high in the league (exception being Hillstate which seemed to be in a rut, but adjusting to new setter), Soyoung had the season of her career, Sohwi had one of her best seasons too

I hope the Asian quota thing will improve the Korean volleyball league, make some competition. I mean KR national team is just too bad to watch.

Playing for the National Team should be an honour for players and also to get their names out, but the Korean league has become too comfortable for the Korean players that good players would rather avoid the NT so that they can recover/rest or train with their club instead to achieve better results domestically and earn a higher salary

Injured players are not being replaced by new players, players called up are not giving their best, players are retiring early, etc

The Asian Quota should be a good wake up call for them
Korea used to only be weaker than China and rivals with Japan, while stronger than the other Asian countries

Now they will see that they are falling behind

Kim Dain (S) and Shin Yeonkyung (Li) will be out of the the roster for the next round for VNLs (source)

Kim Dain for abdominal pain and Shin Yeonkyung for back pain (source)

SYK is reportedly receiving treatment in Brasil, but I wonder if Dain is there with the team or back in Korea

I guess Korea's chances against Croatia just decreased further

Honestly I wish Korea could improve and start winning matches/ decent sets in VNL again before the core team system changes and manage to remain

Regardless it's one of few Asian teams and one I follow, so I want them to stay in. But definitely not in their current state.

Unfortunately I don't see any change or hope from (even) younger players unless veterans return to play or they have the twins back to lead the team

Competing in the VNLs is proving to be a lot more detrimental to Korea than it is beneficial

Meanwhile Korea Volleyball Federation shamelessly not updating their World Rankings since 2+ years ago 👀

I agree that they should at least consider returning. I remember also Fe Garay still played last Olympics (2021) and she was 35, same with Jordan Larson who announced she's returning to the NT (she'll be 37 by the next Olympics). Maybe KYK went as a consultant also to assess if she should return (wishful thinking) - or just to also help the new generation of players.

What exactly is an "advisor role" to be frank..........?

Just finished watching the match against Canada.

What's really frustrating is that I don't think a lot of people realize that they don't even play like this in the Korean league. It's like watching rookies. The passing in this team is just absolutely terrible. Also, absolutely no hustle, no killer instinct, and no drive at all in the 1st and 2nd sets.

Maybe watching this team play will awaken something in Kim Yeon Koung and have her play for the NT again (I mean, Jordan Larson will still play for the NT). Also, KVA needs to start having balls and let the twins play already. 2 years is enough. Might as well have sent them both to prison if they are going to socially shun them.

Korea plays better in Korean league because their opponents are weaker (no finisher except foreign players), shorter and the same players they're always playing against - so they are familiar with them

I don't know why the veterans (who are not even 35 yet) are doing nothing to return after last year's disgrace at the VNLs. Even Lee Hyo Hee (40 yo) returned to NT multiple times when the setters were down and injured.

I agree with the notion that the younger generation needs a chance to step up, but since they already banished the twins, then at least call back the veterans.

LJY could potentially return but LDY likely won't be - what's stopping them isn't KVA but KYK fans who make up 95% of volleyball fans in Korea lol

Hmmm. They really need Jaeyeong. Or maybe KYK will be back lol

Just woke up so I'll watch the match at work but at least they were not doing single digits.

But for real though, I don't understand why the veterans have retired so soon

Not just KYK but the veterans all did so together

Of course that wouldn't have been an issue if the twins were still around, but since they aren't (and are probably unlikely to), would've been more merciful if they had continued for 1-2 more years

Kim is there to energise the team with her positive energy and hopefully this will enable them to win a few matches, not just sets.... :box:

All due respect, but even with her and twins playing, Korea only won max 3 matches in the VNLs

Though of course they put up a much better fight against teams even when they lost

Her role won't change anything, I think she's in this advisor role cause she wants to run for IOC so it's just keeping her international presence - or so Korean fans are speculating

I find it way too sus that Han Yumi with no coaching experience is brought on to coach the National Team of all teams

It's not as though the Federation has no money, they could've recruited any of the other experienced coaches in the league or even outside

She was a decent player but strings must've been pulled or everyone else rejected the role

Having NT coaching experience on your resume never hurts though
