10 games played in december and with game yesterday finished 2010 in MEVZA. Quite impressive score of ACH Bled in derby vs 2nd placed Posojilnica, seems like they are from some other planet here....New croatian team in MEVZA, Mladost Kastela is impressing still, two new wins in december and very strong candidature for final 4. Vienna and Kaposvar lost both games in December and now are on bottom of the table. Mladost Zagreb is last but 3 games less than those teams and will probably get beyond them .

Strong rhythm in new year, differences in league are more and more obvious, long time 4th placed Kastela lost without winning a set in two games at home vs top league teams Bled and Posojilnica,. Salonit brought Andrej Urnaut for coach (last season final4 of challenge cup with Berlin)and are candidate now for final4. Thing to point out is first win of Kaposvar till october, Vienna is loosing hardly all matches, even vs teams from bottom of the table. Also Mladost Zagreb no signs of improvement, 2 new defeats, but signing of USA setter Ammermann (loan from Bled) and OH Tropan from Kastela could turn things on better i hope in next matches...

In this week Team Austria had their series of games, but very young lineup resulted in 2 won sets in 3 games, both first sets in games and then no way to keep balance. Salonit showing some quality with new coach, very important win for final4 vs Chemes where they saved 10:14 in 5th set :cheesy: ACH Bled and Posojilnica keeping pace, and very surprising win of Mladost Kastela vs CL team of Hypo Tirol, could be consequence of shock loosing even CEV cup spot in last round of CL group phase. Big battle will be for this 4th place, and very important game for Kastela is tomorrow croatian derby in Zagreb for which will debut USA setter Ryan Ammermann for Mladost Zagreb.

All final 4 contenders besides leader ACH Bled played this weekend, Kastela won in croatian derby and gained nice boost for 4th place in front of Salonit which lost home game to Posojilnica. Now Kastela has only 1pt less than Salonit and 3 games more to play comparing to slovenians but all games remained to play as visitors....Hypo Tirol won today in austrian derby and with 6 pts from two matches got nice chance to overtake 2nd place on table in remaining 3 or 4 games till end of regular season...

  • In this week Team Austria had their series of games, but very young lineup resulted in 2 won sets in 3 games, both first sets in games and then no way to keep balance.

Is this club team Austria a demo version of their national team for the ECH?

Big derby and first defeat of ACH Bled in this season but they already assured 1st place + CL playoffs tomorrow so probably little rest...Mladost Zagreb on road trip and finally one win, probably took advantage of Team Austria playing 3 games in 3 days. 4 points in 3 games for Croatian team and now escaped from last spot, now it is Vienna last. League coming in final stage, teams having 2-4 games till the end, still to be decided 4th place for final 4, Bled, Posojilnica and Tirol are already there, and Posojilnica having 2 more home games (Kastela and Vienna) where will probably confirm 2nd place and first seeding for Austrian playoffs which is very important to them.

Three short matches this weekend, need to highlight game where in direct clash Kaštela won in Chemes and in their debutant season qualified for final 4 which IMO was pretty impossible to immagine on beginning of the season. Big congrats to them. Salonit lost easily to Bled and now it is all decided. Still to be determined only 2nd/3rd placings, but in remaining games Posojilnica having all in their hands, two home games vs totally unmotivated Kaštela and Vienna, so matches of final 4 are already known:

ACH Bled (SLO) - Mladost Kaštela (CRO)
Posojilnica (AUT) - Hypo Tirol (AUT)

It is now announced, final 4 will be held in Innsbruck, 20-21. march 2011. ;)

  • Last 10 days in MEVZA finished, 9 conclusion games and from last 6 games - 6 away wins there is one big upset in last round of regular season :what: :cheesy:

Last placed on standings Vienna came in last round to Posojilnica where host should finish the business and seal no2 in MEVZA and no1 in austrian playoffs but capitals werent in that mood and hyper suprising away win (Posojilnica having 7-1 until then at home, lost only to ACH Bled). Vienna strengthen suprisingly their roster in february in order to be competitive in austrian cup and playoffs (now in semis they will face again Posojilnica instead of hypo Tirol) with Justin Duff (Canada NT, surely who watched WC in Italy remembering insane jumping of that canadian MB   ) and to me unknown Brasilian Danilo Gomes Paes da Silva which obviously turned Vienna game upside down ,especially Duff with 14pts in 4 sets as MB....

Also with that Vienna surprising win, last season MEVZA 3rd and CEV Challenge cup runner-up Mladost Zagreb finished season as last team in MEVZA ;( but this is life, their game is getting better and better, Ammermann finally tuned with rest of the team, full team ACH Bled had big trouble 2.5 sets in Zagreb, but afterall they can keep high level and rhythm longer and Mladost guys cannot....

    Final standings:

    1 ACH Volley BLED (SLO) 17-1 (53-10) 51
    2 Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam INNSBRUCK (AUT) 15-3 (48-16) 44
