  • Tamika Catchings Named 2011 WNBA Most Valuable Player

    Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings has been named the 2011 WNBA Most Valuable Player, the WNBA announced today. Catchings received 292 points (21 first place votes) from a national panel of 40 sportswriters and broadcasters.


    Connecticut Sun center Tina Charles finished second with 209 points (six first-place votes) and Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles finished third with 148 points (six). Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird finished fourth with 106 points (two) and Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen finished fifth with 104 points (four).

    Becky Hammon ready to play for Russian NT again, if gets a call


    WNBA star Becky Hammon announced she is ready to play for the Russian National Team next year at the Olympic Games in London. Of course, if she gets a call. Hammon played for Russia in 2008, 2009 and 2010. At the Olympic Games in Beijing she had 13 ppg 1.8 rpg and 1.3 apg for 8 games. She helped Russia to win the Bronze. At the European Championships in Latvia Hammon averaged 16.5 points 2 rebounds and 2 steals in four games. There, Russia won the Silver. A year ago at the World Championships in Czech Republic Hammon collected 11.1 ppg 2.6 rpg and 1.5 apg. Becky Hammon missed EuroBasket in Poland this year. Russia won the Gold thanks to 59-42 win against Turkey in the Finals.
