Merlo is absolutely fantastic in defense, I think right now she is better than Cardullo...I hope she didn't get seriously hurt right now when she collided with Di Iulio :S

It is really NOT very smart to set so many balls to Quaranta to pos 1!!! :wall:

I think the main six will be the same as last year. Brinker improved a lot since Grün came back because before that, Brinker always was the victim of opponents' serves and now it is Grün because opponents want to prevent her from attacking by serving always to her. Brinker can concentrate more on attack now. I think Beier's job will be the one Lisa Thomsen used to do, reception substitute for Brinker (or even Grün) for 3 rotations every set. It's good to have Beier on bench because if one of the OHs plays bad she is a better replacement than Anne Matthes for sure.

If all 3 ligaments are torn recovery usually takes about 6 weeks, but if only one is torn it can be much faster. The fact that her injury didn't look spectacular at all could be a reason to be optimistic...Friedrichshafen's Opp Oliver Venno suffered an ankle injury that looked much more serious about 2 weeks before Cup final but he returned very quickly...

Bjelica is confirmed to have mononucleosis, so I guess it means she won't be in Ankara.

The OPP positions looks to be a disaster in the making, Brakocevic better be healthy and in shape. :white:

Ivana Nesovic (and some others too) has been added to the roster on CEV site, you think it's possible she might be Brakocevic's backup if Bjelica really can't play?

    Dates for semifinals:
    Play-off-Halbfinale Frauen (Hinspiele)
04.04. 19:00 Schweriner SC - Rote Raben Vilsbiburg (ARENA Schwerin)
04.04. 19:30 USC Münster - Dresdner SC (Sporthalle Berg Fidel)

Play-off-Halbfinale Frauen (Rückspiele, Entsch. ggf. im Golden Set)
07.04. 18:00 Rote Raben Vilsbiburg - Schweriner SC (Ballsporthalle Vilsbiburg)
07.04. 17:30 Dresdner SC - USC Münster (Margon Arena)

In a press article from Münster is written that there is a small possibility that Sloetjes will be able to play in semifinal...

Guidetti invited 20 players to preparations for Ankara tournament:

S: Kathleen Weiß, Mareen Apitz, Denise Hanke, Lena Möllers
    Opp: Margareta Kozuch, Saskia Hippe
OH: Angelina Grün, Maren Brinker, Heike Beier, Regina Burchardt, Anne Matthes
MB: Corina Ssuschke-Voigt, Christiane Fürst, Kathy Radzuweit, Berit Kauffeldt, Anja Brandt, Nadja Schaus
L: Kerstin Tzscherlich, Lenka Dürr, Lisa Thomsen

Sarah Petrausch, Lina Meyer, Claudia Steger, Friederike Thieme and Luise Mauersberger were asked to be ready to join the trainings in case of injuries.
Guidetti and Heike Beier sorted out their conflict from last year so she is back in the team. Nice to see that there actually are coaches who are capable of that, maybe he should give lessons to Terzic and others ;)
First players start training in early April, the others join depending on the end of their club seasons. The team will play two friendly matches with Poland in the end of April and after that Guidetti will announce the 12 players for Ankara.

There are fotos on Schwerin's facebook page, she seems OK there...at least there is no ice on her foot or something like that, so I hope there's no bad damage. It would be a quite annoying way to get injured...the same happened to Köpenick's setter Leszczynska in their last league match but she was OK, I hope the same for Anne.

it is so strange.. :what: :what: :what: as the rumour that wants Rahimova in Bergamo ?( ?( ?( :what: :what:

I remember an interview with Rahimova where she said that some time ago it was her dream to play in Bergamo, probably that's the reason for such rumors. I'm quite sure that it won't happen though, Bergamo is not what it used to be and Rahimova is happy in Azerbaijan.

Schwerin-Suhl (parts of 5th set and Golden set)

What a bad way to end Golden set  And shock for Schwerin after match point: in a celebration jump, Anne Buijs lands on a teammate's foot and twists her ankle :white: You can see it at 13'30 in the video. I hope it's nothing serious but the way she goes down in pain looks bad :(
I hope the full match will be uploaded to Sport in Schwerin website later...

Matthias, how do good do u think Mirjana Djuric is? She is serbian I can see, do u think she has potential to reach the NT in her career? Her stats looks really good at least. I have never seen her play though.

She played in Serbian Youth/Junior NTs and even won best server award at Junior ECH 2004. Then she went to study in America and played in NCAA, after her studies she first played in not so good leagues (Finland, Netherlands, Ukraine). I think her level is very good for German league, but Serbia has so many great talented players that I don't think she can be an option for their NT unfortunately.

Yes I think so too...Djuric was decisive in 3rd and Golden set today for Vilsbiburg, I even think she's in better shape than Mesa now. I'm still a little surprised that Schwerin had so much trouble against Suhl in both matches, but seems Suhl was extremely well prepared tactically. In 1st match Paty Thormann scored over 20 points with more than 60% in attack, today 5 of 14 attacks of her were blocked (I guess those were Kovacic's 5 block points). I think Suhl would also deserve to play in semifinal, if they had managed to finish 5th in regular season they'd have probably won against Münster in playoffs.

Suhl was one point away from semifinal at 24:23 in 3rd set but Schwerin kept the nerves and managed to turn the match around.

Three Golden Sets and a lot of excitement, but in the end the top 4 teams from regular season all made it to semifinal. Matches will be:
    Dresden-Münster
    Vilsbiburg-Schwerin

    All results, stats etc soon.

    Crazy 2nd set :cheesy: 20:14, 20:20, 23:20, 23:25
Both teams don't really have a great level...just a lot of experienced players.

Loko came back from 20-13 and won 25-23 2nd set. But i didn't understand decision bu 2nd referee in 23 point. it was critical

I think it was correct. Cibele was over the line with complete foot.

    Report about Stuttgart-Dresden.

Bayer Leverkusen won't apply for license to play in 1st league again next season, so right now it's likely that next season only 12 teams will play in 1st league. Teams from 2nd leagues don't want to come up, Leverkusen doesn't want to stay and Sinsheim is bancrupt (but still hoping...).

Regina Burchardt will stay in Wiesbaden another year. Suzana Cebic will probably leave Suhl after the season and play in another country.

Tonight, 19.30 CET, live on http://www.vib24.tv the 2nd quarterfinal Vilsbiburg-Wiesbaden :) Other matches also take place today. In semifinals the best ranked from regular season will play against the worst ranked from regular season, so for example if Dresden (1st) goes to semifinal and Wiesbaden (7th) beats Vilsbiburg again they will meet in semifinal.
Hamburg maybe has to play without their best player Lousi Souza Ziegler, she couldn't travel with the team due to stomach flu yesterday, maybe she will join the team today but it's not sure.

Suzana Cebic will probably leave VfB Suhl after this season. Her contract expires and she said in an interview that she would like to play in another league again and she feels it's time for a change.
