It maybe inappropriate to make this negative comment on Fan Linlin, but today her performance was totally a loser especially her reception was a disaster. That's why she should be the person being responsible for the failure. Reception is quite important to Asian teams, obviously she is such a bad reception player.

She may try her best to HELP the team, but she is not good enough to save it, if so try best not to destroy it,

I didn't see the game but if the coach chooses her to receive then he's to be blamed as well.

Italy is so good that not only their OH are good receivers, one of their Opp (Bosetti) is quite good as well. I think Cate will have few chances to play so I would cut her and Anzanello.

I don't think Fernanda is such a great setter. Fabiola is way better. The thing is that she plays for the NT for the first time and the other players are not familiar with her setting (the same thing that happened with USA Alisha Glass in the WGP 2010 - yes she played great but then when the other teams analysed her game it was not the same). So Fabiola will be the started for sure, but Fernanda deserves to be a sub.. although I'd be said for Dani.. she was 1st or 2nd setter for the last 4 years.. and not going to the Olympics...

Dani Lins had every chance to be our main setter but she only managed to fail. She was a starter but then managed to be a bench to everyone, even Ana Tiemi who is the prima-donna-bench player.

Btw I still think Dani Lins made a poor choice by going to Sesi...

Well.. as far as I remember Brazil was bad during final phase of GP 2007 and I won't even start talking about the last World Cup... Brazil is not the same...

I think we should take this game as it is. Brazil did better games than that and I think so did China. The point is none of those teams brought at least 40% of waht they were playing. China was playing without their main setter and that bench one was just a disaster today.

I don't think Fernandinha is better than Fabiola... Fernandinha is a great setter but some of her sets were so high that I thought she played with Karpol. And even when she had a good receive she set some high balls. I think Fabiola does better than that.

Adenizia is doing better than Thaisa and Fabiana but I think she will be bench at the OG.

And even though Brait is playing much better than Fabi I can't see Ze replacing Fabi for Brait. I think Brait will have to wait for Rio 2016.

Having watched so many OG I just say anything can happen.

Do you remember how bad Brazil was in 2007? The GP was a disaster and Brazil played poorly in World Cup losing in straight sets to Italy and 3 x 2 to USA.

But when we talked about 2008 Brazil came back strong to win the GP and during the final phase Brazil won almost all teams in straight sets.
Italy was said to be a big contender but once again (3 OG in a row) Italy failed reaching for the semifinals. And this italian team was crushing every other team in World Cup 2007... Russia did really bad at the OG winning every weak team but didn't winning any top team. It was interesting because the top 4 teams at the OG were 3 from American and 1 from Asia. USA were called for some as the "dark horse".

If we go back to OG 2004, USA had a great team and people thought they would achieve a medal and maybe even play the gold medal. It didn't happen and USA lost in quater-finals.

So anything can happen. Will Italy finally win a quater-final game? How USA will deal with the pressure of winning? I say they have a little bit of problem just like brazilians if you remember what happened in World Cup 2011 and World Championship 2010. As for Russia I'm sure they will qualify but what to expect from them? I'm really excited for Turkey and I hope they can do great. I don't know much about China but I think they are going with a good team and I will sure miss Cuba because they always improve their game at the OG.

Hooker seems like an spoiled child. Osasco didn't sign with her because it seems her manager asked too much $$$... So if she wanted to remain in Osasco as she keeps saying she should have lowered what she asked... I think Osasco was right. They know how much they can pay and went out looking for their best choices.

I remember that in begin of season Joana has written that with Hooker Osasco may have some chances to beat Rio.

So what did happen during the whole season that Rio didn't win?

I think Osasco just got it right when it matter the most. Their players were free of injuries and they were in great shape. It was really tought to beat them because they were well balanced in offense, defense and setter Fabiola did a pretty good job.

As for Unilever there were many things going on and I believe some of them started at the end of the 2nd round of preliminary phase. Since the beggining we knew Unilever would be a team with weak reception but people wouldn't think Fabi and Valeskinha would do that bad. Natalia didn't play a single game and even though she is a not a good receiver at least she could be a good choice for high balls. And Venturini is not that young anymore so she wasn't 100% in shape and it wasn't easy for her running around the court in order to fix the team reception. I think Unilever just had too many ups and down. There were games with many individual mistakes, I think Valeskinha did poorly in reception and even Venturini made some mistakes while setting. Mari didn't play her best game and so it was too much for Sheilla... Anyway they made it to the gold medal game. I don't like Unilever but Venturini was a world class setter. I thought Bernardo was right when he said Brazilian Federation didn't give her any kind of award for all she's done for Brazilian NT.

Well.. CBV didn't do anything but Venturini sure filled our hearts. It was nice seeing her back even though she couldn't play at her best.
