Spain opts for Fernando Muñoz to head men's national team for next 2 years
Fernando Muñoz is the new mentor of Spain men’s senior national team. The Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation has hired the Spanish coach to lead the future of the men's squad for the next two years. Fernando Muñoz, who is currently heading the club of Ciudad Medio Ambiente Soria in the Superliga, is one of the most experienced Volleyball coaches in Spain, so his extensive and successful career makes him the right choice to command the national team in this new journey.
“The hiring of Fernando Muñoz is a determined and firm decision to give the lead of the team to a Spanish coach” said the President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, Agustín Martín Santos. “Muñoz meets all the necessary requirements to manage the team as he has been accumulating experience in different categories of the Spanish national team and has been the coach of some of the best clubs in the national leagues of Spain, Italy and Turkey; I think that this appointment will be welcomed by the Spanish Volleyball” said the Spanish President.
“For me it is very important to become national head coach, for the confidence posed in me and for the moment in which I receive this task”, said Muñoz, who listed the main points of his leadership with the national team: “I would like to turn the team into a squad with ambitions; I think we need to get back the winning mentality. In my opinion, we can take use of our technical level to regain a character that I have seen in the squad in the past”.
In his club career, the 40-year old coach has lead Unicaja ALMERIA for five seasons, coached the Eade Iversur and currently is the coach of CMA Soria. Outside of Spain, he served as coach of Italy’s Eurosport Brutium COSENZA and Arkas IZMIR in Turkey. Among his extensive list of awards, he has achieved four Spanish league titles, two Cups, two Super Cups, a third place in the Top Teams Cup, a Turkish league title and a Challenge Cup. Muñoz replaces in the position Argentinean Julio Velasco who moved some weeks ago to Iran.

Great move by Maldonado, he included many Junior NT players as he knows of what they are capable of. Respect for decision
-
He probably wouldn't have done it so thoroughly if they had qualified for the Junior WCH in Turkey. But I agree, the Spanish Junior NT is a great one, it seems an appropriate time to make a transition.
