Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2016/17

  • So there are definitely some issues going on behind the scenes in Stuttgart. I'm curious to hear more about Renkema's absence today now...

She was sitting next Stuttgarts scout, altogether three second team players were filling up Stuttgarts roster to the maximum of 14 instead (Julia Wenzel, Alexandra Bura and Sophie Bodlee).

I know no exact reason, why she didn't play yesterday, but I'm pretty sure, it had to do with physcial issues.

  • Regarding management of Allianz MTV Stuttgart: manager Aurel Irion takes over completely the operational business from Bernhard Lobmüller, the last stays as one of the company members and will give advice, if necessary. Because a network of supporters (like team Europa and a longer existing circle of friends) already exists, this is much less serious than that infamous author of Stuttgarter Z./N. Klingofsky wrote. A surprise is it nevertheless, original plans were to give this job to captain Kim Renkema, when she retires as player.

  • Captain and outside hitter Kim Renkema is suffering on the Epstein-Barr virus (infectious mononucleosis, Pfeiffersches Drüsenfieber) and will be out for longer time. Olympic beach champion Kira Walkenhorst missed nearly an entire season when suffering of the same disease.

Discussions of the holders of the company driving the volleyball team Allianz MTV Stuttgart are including the possibility, to transfer Bernhard Lobmüllers tasks earlier than planned ( summer 2018 ) to Kim Renkema. When a decision is made, I will of course report it.

  • The most interesting matches are supposed to be Stuttgart vs. Wiesbaden on Saturday and Münster vs. Vilsbiburg on Sunday.

That's nothing serious, usually teenagers suffer from that disease.. However I think she should be resting for a month because physical activity can cause rupture of the spleen.. I haven't heard about cases when patients have been recovering that long..

  • Surprisingly difficult win for Potsdam in Suhl: they needed the tie-break and lost a point that way.

The week of hell (4 matches in 8 days) ended for Stuttgart with an initially hard fought four set win, the first was lost somewhant unlucky 26:28 against a well playing Wiesbaden team, the second unnecessary late won with 25:23 (they didn't use a condiserable number of set points before), before Stuttgart established control of the match in third and fourth sets. Main advantage was higher attack efficiency especially after good reception, better overall reception percentage and much better ace/service fault difference as Wiesbaden. Therefore Stuttgart is not too far behind Schwerin, but still has the disadvantage of the 0 point outcome (defeat) in Potsdam, which hurts the chances against Schwerin in league rount noticeably.

  • If anybody worries about the clear, one-sided outcome of Münster vs. Vilsbiburg: three important players of Münster couldn't train the whole week and one of them couldn't even play today, while Vilsbiburg continued the good work from the first two sets especially in the cup match against Stuttgart and averted Münster to get really into the match.

  • The press meeting today in Mannheim regarding DVV cup final on 29. January 2017 at there revealed, that Sport1 will show both finals as 2016, but no participant claimed or assigned favorite role, obvioulsy considering it as 50 % chance for both. Current captain of Stuttgart (Kim Renkema is ill, you know) Deborah van Daelen just hoped, that considerable more Stuttgart fans than those of Schwerin will attend the final due to the huge difference in distance (roundabout 100 compared to 600 km).

  • Schedule for the weekend:

    3. Dezember 2016
    19:00 Aachen - Münster
    19:00 Potsdam - Erfurt
    19:00 Schwerin - Suhl

    4. Dezember 2016
    14:30 Stuttgart - Dresden :!:
    18:00 Vilsbiburg - Köpenick

All matches live on http://www.vbl.tv, Stuttgart-Dresden as match of the week with TV production  Third encounter of the teams within two months...

  • And they will not be motivated only because of a long rivalry - for both teams outcome is important. Stuttgart has to win with three points again, to avoid lose of contact to Schwerin, while Dresden is endangered of losing third place in table when gaining no points. Still Stuttgart is the clear-cut favorite anyway.

  • Aachen - Münster 1:3 (25:11 22:25 13:25 12:25) :what:

    Tomorrow 14.30 top match Stuttgart-Dresden and 18.00 Vilsbiburg-Köpenick.

  • Quiet a strange match in Aachen. We started were we end against Vilsbiburg. After the first break we begann to fight and saved the 2nd set. The 3rd and 4th set was the complete difference of the 1st set. Everything work on one side. The losing team with a leck in every element of volleyball.

  • Stuttgart - Dresden 3:1 (28:30 25:20 25:17 25:21)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2041.pdf
MVP: Wanna Buakaew / Gina Mancuso

Stuttgart was the better team throughout the whole match, they just failed to use their set points at the end of 1st set but dominated afterwards. Changing Pettke and Whitney with Tomazela and van Daelen turned out to be a very good move by Hernandez, both did a great job. Buakaew as usual with solid reception and a lot of great saves, but she looked utterly confused to receive MVP award  IMO it should have been Nia Grant who played an incredible match with 18 pts and 82% in attack :white: :super:
Dresden once again with big problems in reception, none of their players was solid so it was very difficult for Apitz to run her game. Cooper today with some playing time, she is clearly not at 100% yet but showed some hints of how good she can be.

Does anyone know who was the woman in the red shirt sitting behind the court with Stuttgart's scout and Kim Renkema? A new player maybe?
