    Phil Eatherton will play for ACH Volley for the rest of the 2009 season.
    U.S. middle blocker and 2004 Olympian Phil Eatherton (Glencoe, Mo.) has joined ACH Volley, the Slovenian club team for which middle blocker Delano Thomas (Sacramento, Calif.) also plays.


    A Jan. 6 press release issued by the team said: “This decision of the club’s management is based on the numerous injuries of the players in this position. The 35-year old player from St. Louis is also in the extended list of the American national team and he will remain with ACH Volley until the end of this season.”


    A press release issued on Jan. 9 reports that Thomas has had successful knee surgery: “Thomas Delano was operated on Thursday in the traumatology (sic) department of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana due to the injury of the left knee. His doctor Prof. Matjaž Veselko, MD, described the procedure as very successful. A short rehabilitation, which will be monitored by the club`s doctors, now awaits Thomas and according to the first assessments by the doctors Thomas is expected to start training in the first half of February.”


    Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) left Vienna’s Aon hotVolleys on Jan. 9 after amicably settling a contract dispute, according to Austrian news reports. He has since joined the Greek team PAOK Thessaloniki, where Americans Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.) and Theo Brunner (Ridgefield, Conn.) are also playing. Patak has not yet played in an official match for PAOK. Patak previously played in Greece in 2007-08 for Aris Marmouris.

    Today and tomorrow Final4 of middleeuropean league. Bled and Slovak legionares in Posojilnica showed by far best volley in main round, so today could be good volley played in Vienna and waiting for big finals tomorrow. :drink:

    The MEVZA league title goes to Hypo Tirol Innsbruck! Just a few minutes ago they literally destroyed ACH Volley Bled with 3-0! Surprisingly or not, it was a very very convincing victory! A good final to watch, Bled simply played without the spirit they demonstrated in the IECL; Tirol, on the other side, looked motivated and deserved the title! Their captain Daniel Gavan (middle-blocker) was quite consistent, he finished a lot of the attacks, which is not often to be seen around since, for example, Gabriel Chocholak (opposite) did not have so many chances to spike (compared to the average number of balls an opposite player should be provided with)... Leo Dos Santos (receiver) also impressed, I have never even heard of him before tonight :)
