Some comments from Guy Farmills. On the prospects for the competition:
"We are currently the seventh European country in the world," said Vermeulen. "The top six of Europe are here and I am not even talking about top countries from other continents such as the United States, Brazil, Japan and China. We are working to rejuvenate our selection, but that goes for most other countries in a post-Olympic year. This, and the fact that we are playing in different groups every week, makes it very difficult to make a prediction now. Let us first get our own game in order as far as possible. "
On the first three opponents Cuba, Bulgaria and China:
"Cuba has a lot of attacking power," he said. "We will have to serve to disrupt their game. We often played well against Bulgaria last summer. We are approximately equivalent to this team, with most Bulgarian players playing in all leagues. China is the strongest team this weekend. They have a very experienced coach Lang Ping at home, for whom I have great respect. We start at least optimally prepared for the Grand Prix. I am very curious what level we can achieve here. "

And meanwhile, Tony Tube aka Toyn Boyce aka Teun Buijs said that the games *may* be streamed on livetv.ru, with coverage beginning half an hour before the match.
According to Dutch Federation website, both Buijs and Grothues twisted their ankle slightly, by the collision.
Vermeulen said 'after the collision, the team got scared..it was the key-turning-point in the game...'
Hopefully they will be 100% healthy tomorrow
My opinion after the first weekend:
I'm very pleased with Kirsten Knip's performance so far...the same of course Stoltenborg
Grothues is, as expected, a disaster in front-row, against strong teams (Bulgaria, China)
Pietersen is too weak, as expected.
Hopefully, Sloetjes and Plak will play more next weekend.
Flier was a disaster yesterday. She is still far from a decent level.
Buijs, De Kruijf and Steenbergen played as expected, They did a good job.
Headcoach Vermeulen:
'' In general I'm satisfied with the performances the team showed this weekend. We have to work on holding a high level during a longer period in the match --> yesterday and today we collapsed after a good start.'
Stoltenborg is a really amazing setter, she just need some time to grow up.
It is the first time she play in a international level match, but she already played so well!
Much better than Dijkema...
And pietersen is really weak, she is not a powerful opp, maybe setter can give her some quick ball to hit.
Why sloetjes still on bench? She is a really monster attacker!
Maybe the next year,we can begin to train Moneik Jansen^_^,she is also talented.
About MB,a bit disappointed about Steenbergen, her attack is not in her best shape, both MB did not work with Stoltenborg well like they used to be.The next year, maybe the coach can try to call Koolhaas or Jeanine to NT!
