Germany - VBL Bundesliga 2015/16

  • I hope that against VCO today the youngsters (Wenzel, Hoffman and Seeber) in Stuttgart get their chance to play.

It seems, that Julika Hoffmann and Victoria Seeber were only for training and CL-roster issues elected to be formally there. But Julia Wenzel was today at court for the first time in the 1. Bundesliga (at least in SCHARRena), in every of the three short sets (62 minutes in total) she came in, when AMS was already clearly in control of the set. By the way, it is rather clear, that Julia Wenzel is one of the players, which would be supposed to play in the VCO Berlin team...

  • The latest news from Hamburg is that they still haven't found new sponsors for next season, currently they have about 80.000€ for next season but they would need at least about 450.000€. At the moment it is very likely that Hamburg will disappear from professional volleyball

This article delivers a quite good summary about what went wrong, already in the early years of "Aurubis' " sponsorship. They really wasted a lot of money and chances here and improvements came too late. Like already mentioned, in Hamburg we have a general problem with private money for sports but location of hall and team do not help as well. The "south of the river" location made sense for Aurubis but for new sponsors that is possibly not very attractive.

I have read this article, and of course location of the modern, European Cups compatible CU-Arena is due to location of the TV Fischbek. I know Hamburgs internal sports and sponsoring scene not well enough to judge the outcome, but location does matter regarding public recognition and private money without any doubt, especially in Germanys second largest city. I think, even in Stuttgart there may have been better locations for SCHARRena as the current one, because of public transport and event collisions with soccer (VfB), but it is still not bad. So Hamburg will attend a long line of Bundesliga clubs, which couldn't survive financially, like Unterhaching and others (Unterhaching with one sole big sponsor Generali was fairly similar to them with Aurubis as the only one, which is extremely risky).

  • Vilsbiburg - Köpenick 2:3 (25:20 15:25 25:23 20:25 12:15)

MVP: Wivian Gadelha / Valerie Nichol

Lots of hard fought sets and matches, only Thüringen again couldn't manage to win even a set. Hamburg lost Karine Muijlwijk early in 1st set with an ankle injury, if it turns out to be serious it is something to worry about for them because then half of their attacking game (which is based mostly on Muijlwijk and Poll) is gone. Strange MVP choices in Vilsbiburg-Köpenick, Elwassimy probably got the award because last season she played in Köpenick, in her game today there was nothing that would justify an MVP nomination for me. For me Köpenick's MVP should have been Sarah Wickstrom with 13 points as a setter (9 aces) :super:

    Ranking:
    1 Dresden 18 15 47:17 44
    2 Schwerin 18 14 47:22 41
    3 Wiesbaden 17 12 40:22 35
    4 Stuttgart 18 12 43:25 35
    5 Münster 18 12 43:28 35

    9 Köpenick 17 7 30:38 21
    10 Aachen 17 7 26:35 21
    11 Straubing 17 7 28:36 20
    12 Thüringen 17 2 12:45 8
    13 VCO Berlin 18 0 5:54 1

  • Karine Muijlwijk possibly out for the rest of the season with torn ligament.
    http://www.abendblatt.de/sport…is-Volleyballerinnen.html

That's a big blow for Hamburg, now they are left without any wing spiker on bench because Saskia Radzuweit will have to play as OPP. And that one week after the transfer deadline :aww:

What I find pretty....questionable (to say it nicely) is Katharina Schwabe's comment about the injury. Schwabe attacked and landed more on Hamburg's court than on her own, Muijlwijk landed on her foot and twisted her ankle. Schwabe's comment: "She landed on my foot. It also could have hit me."

  • Schedule for the weekend, all matches except VCO live on http://www.vbl.tv:

    6. Februar 2016
    19:00 Wiesbaden - Dresden
    19:00 Köpenick - Thüringen
    19:00 Schwerin - Vilsbiburg
    19:30 Stuttgart - Potsdam

    7. Februar 2016
    14:30 Münster - Aachen
    15:00 Hamburg - Straubing
    17:30 VCO Berlin Thüringen

Lots of very interesting matches, most results are hard to predict.

  • Wiesbaden - Dresden 0:3 (22:25 11:25 10:25) :white:
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2098.pdf
MVP: Alyssa Longo / Nneka Onyejekwe
After one close set Dresden simply ran over Wiesbaden. Wiesbaden with 14 errors in 3rd set :aww:

    Köpenick - Thüringen 3:1 (20:25 25:16 25:15 26:24)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2100.pdf
MVP: Nele Iwohn / Claudia Steger

    Schwerin - Vilsbiburg 3:2 (21:25 25:17 23:25 25:18 16:14)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2101.pdf
MVP: Lousi Souza Ziegler / Liana Mesa

    Stuttgart - Potsdam 3:1 (21:25 25:20 25:11 25:13)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2096.pdf
MVP: Femke Stoltenborg / Saskia Hippe
Potsdam was leading with 6 points in the middle of 2nd set, then after the double sub with Stoltenborg and van Daelen Stuttgart turned the set around and left Potsdam no chance after that.

Tomorrow Münster-Aachen, Hamburg-Straubing and VCO-Thüringen. If Thüringen doesn't get 3 points out of that they can say goodbye to 1st league, and even if they do their chances to reach 10th place are purely theoretical.

  • Münster - Aachen 3:1 (25:21 20:25 25:19 25:19)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2099.pdf
MVP: Hanna Orthmann :super: / Tatiana Crkonova (27 pts)
Great entrance by 17 year old super talent Hanna Orthmann, today as OH. In 3rd set she scored 3 consecutive aces and with better setting her attack % would look better. Aachen's reception was a nightmare :aww:

    Hamburg - Straubing 3:1 (25:17 25:21 10:25 31:29)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2097.pdf
MVP: Jana Franziska Poll (29 pts) / Laura Weihenmaier
Straubing defended 6 match points in 4th set but in the end the firepower of Jana Poll was too much. So Hamburg's two women show is now a one woman show after Muijlwijk's injury, but it still works. I don't agree with Weihenmaier as Straubing's MVP, she was really good in attack but had two crucial reception errors in the end of 4th set.

    VCO Berlin - Thüringen 0:3 (20:25 25:27 12:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Women/&2152.pdf
MVP: Kimberly Drewniok / Dominika Drobnakova
Here's why I'm not too supportive of VCO project anymore, even against the weakest team of the league (and them even missing one of their key players) they stand no chance. Drobnakova with 15/20 in attack :white:

    Ranking:
    1 Dresden 19 16 50:17 47
    2 Schwerin 19 15 50:24 43
    3 Stuttgart 19 13 46:26 38
    4 Münster 19 13 46:29 38
    5 Wiesbaden 18 12 40:25 35
    6 Vilsbiburg 19 10 41:36 31
    7 Potsdam 18 8 37:36 29
    8 Hamburg 19 9 33:39 25
    9 Köpenick 18 8 33:39 24
    10 Aachen 18 7 27:38 21
    11 Straubing 18 7 29:39 20
    12 Thüringen 19 3 16:48 11
    13 VCO Berlin 19 0 5:57 1

  • And here's the reason for Erika Salanciova's absence in Thüringen's matches this weekend: the club suspended her because of bad behavior after the defeat last week against Münster :white: I didn't watch that match so no idea what she did but they say it's not what they expect from a professional athlete and that it annoyed fans and sponsors as well.

Who do you see as MVP if dont agree with the choice of Laura? She received 33 time and made had just 2 errors, scored 23 points. Who was better than her in that match?

  • I would have chosen Wivian Gadelha. I don't mean to say that Weihenmaier played bad in that match or anything, not at all, but in order to be the MOST VALUABLE player you shouldn't make two mistakes in the crunch time of the match.

MVP: Liana Mesa / Deborah van Daelen
Stuttgart with 22 blocks, 7 each by Tomazela and van Daelen

Lots of missing players today: Schwerin without Denise Hanke (fever), Köpenick without Lauren Barfield (finger injury, will miss some more games), Potsdam without Saskia Hippe, Vilsbiburg without Srna Markovic and Barbara Wezorke (both sick). Kathy Radzuweit made her official comeback on court for Potsdam after being on bench the last few matches.

    Other matches tomorrow.

  • Wiesbaden serving Münster aka the best receiving team of the league off the court in 1st set :white:

Hanna Orthmann came on court towards the end of the set for Münster and once again showed her amazing talent. I hope Andi Vollmer will keep her out there.

  • Has anyone of you already played with the new general statistic tool? Generally, it looks like a major improvement, although it could be, somehow, a bit more "user friendly".
But i still wonder whats behind the point "Wertung Spezialpositionen". Any suggestions?

    Here is the manual:

Look for "Angriffswertung auf Position" :-)
