Whoa! Kashiwa beats Gumma Bank. That's good for the psychology of Himeji and JA Gifu probably.

The last spot is still up for grabs as best as I can tell.

I had it wrong last week. Kashiwa plays Osaka in their last match (not Gifu). Let's call that a win. But the Oilers play Toyota. Leap frogging will be difficult.

Hamamatsu plays Himeji so they are probably out.

I hope Kashiwa gets in there. I wish Hamamatsu could as well. From what I've watched I like those two teams more than the Oilers or Sunbeams. That gigantic Chinese player makes GSS almost unwatchable. Not because she is tall but because she is so visually unconditioned.

Plus, Kashiwa and Hamamatsu have cooler names.

  • Breath lose, and eliminated.

Ohno goes five to clinch final spot over Kashiwa.

Only 4-5 spot is not decided. If Gifu wins, then Prestige 4th and GSS 5th.

GSS win, they are 4th on sets ratio (even 5 set win) and Prestige 5th.

New Himeji OH recruit #20 Riho Sadakane (171cm, lol) continues to impress: 14/26 and 2 blocks. She looks to be taking Kanasugi time, though.

It appears the Himeji games in the Final 6 are going to be broadcast on Himeji Cable TV. Not that we'll get to see them live, but maybe some tender soul will make them available after the fact.

Kana Yoshioka. Oh Yeah! A bit of a surprise, maybe, but she gets the award for most adorable post game interviews <3 No question

Kazuha(?) Tsurugasaki is another reason I liked Kashiwa. I wasn't following numbers throughout the season and honestly thought the Himeji Libero or their receiving OH would win. It's hard to tell with confidence how good players actually are due to the camera work for the V2 matches, but you can tell something's going on.

    Congratulations Everyone! :super:

  • And at the end of the day sitenoise is still my favourite user.

    :drink:

  • Somehow I stumbled upon the Forest Leaves Kumamoto web site and it looks like they want to get back into the V.League.

    Quote

"Forest Reeves Kumamoto" is, as a professional team of Kumamoto onset women's volleyball

set a further community-based, V-League race, and we aim to promotion to V1 league.

    https://forestleaves-kumamoto.jp/team/

For context, about one year ago to the day they announced they were shutting down operations and resigning from the league. brahmin covered it an article over at volleymob "Japan Women: Forest Leaves Kumamoto Cease Operations"

Maybe the whole thing is a Google Mis-translation

  • On the story page in Japanese, this team is starting from zero. So different group using the same name. It may have been purchased at the bankruptcy filing.

They would have to apply to be a new team with the franchise system and start in probably V3 (almost have enough teams in women’s teams for it).

No news since July last year, so not a good sign in my mind.

Himeji's 33 y/old lefty OP #04 Yuko Asazu (8/16, 4 blocks). I think of her as a MB. #09 Kana Yoshioka (5/10, 4 blocks) is a MB. So is 35 y/old Rie Takaki (9/16, 1 block). I hope Himeji promotes to V1 and those old folks continue playing so I can watch them with good camera work. Kana is young, she'll stick around.

Himeji's MB disguised as a lefty OP #4 Yuko Asazu (11/22, 1 ace). Kicking butt. Yuka Kanasugi is not playing :( because noob #20 Riho Sadakane is having too much fun (17/32 @53%, 1 block, 1 ace) :) Hello:

  • GSS and Ohno are already out as Himeji and Gifu will have the regular season tiebreakers.

A loss by Prestige will eliminate them.

Well, that was quick and easy. Let's call Himeji, Gifu, and Gumma the V2 Western Conference :D

  • I'm not one to pay attention to, or be remotely aware of, where all this volleyball is played, stadium-wise, but I remember at the beginning of the season some of the V2 broadcasts were a lot better than recent ones.

Long story, short: Toyota Sports Center. Better lighting, and it has a turquoise/aqua colored floor which has, like, no glare and contrasts nicely with moving bodies and the ball. Maybe that's all there is or they also have better cameras and camera operators. Still just a stationary net-line camera and one that zooms to the server and the post-point huddle, but overall a very pleasant viewing experience.

Two short years ago I asked someone on this board if Japanese Club games were worth watching. I had only seen the clump of National Team matches available on youtube and thought the Club stuff would be amateurish and un-exciting. Now here I am watching V2 matches :cheesy: And enjoying them. There are some good players in V2. The biggest difference I notice from V1 to V2 is they do a lot more Densos in V2. That is, they group watch a ball hit the floor thinking someone else is going to get it.
