South Korea - Women's V-League 2019-2020

  • Hillstate v Altos:

It was really intense match... Hillstate has chronic problem : errors... Their errors in the last 2 matches are a lot...They could won their matches more "easily" if they can minimized those errors....

When they won 2-0, it was a good time to rested Lee DY and tried the other setters in 3rd set, no matter the result..

Jung JH played as wing spiker in the last 2 sets was really good....

They really have to release Maya and get new OP....

Baek Mok Hwa is really good in replacing Pyeo SJ as wing spiker.. I think Altos coach should forget playing her as libero.....

    Kixx v Hi-Pass:

I haven't watched the replay, but I noticed the video duration is one of the shortest in this season so far...

So I assume Hi-Pass didn't provide much challenge for Kixx... Park JA was only had 11 pts and she's the top scorer for Hi-Pass, they really have a big problem...

I also agree with tiffany .. The schedules are too tight and the matches are intense, can make the players fatigue or even injured... Especially the Lee twins, that if I'm not mistaken are the only NT players that played full on all their team matches without subbed once....

Hyundai 'style' reminds me of Korean NT. Leading a lot at the beginning then suddenly got so close to almost losing a set/match

Both really need to fix this

And yes, they really need to start using backup setter. LDY was exhausted at the end of ibk match

I saw few comments said Kim Dain (backup setter) isn't that good with back set. Maybe that's why the coach reluctant to use her

But she's part of kovo cup winning team right? shouldn't be that bad

I think Hi-Pass has lots of problems compared to other bottom 3 teams, No Bae Yoona in the center, underperformed foreigner, Park Jungah still not 100% recover etc

At least both IBK and KGC playing really well even when they lost. Hi-Pass kinda look like they're losing the will to win.

  • News Update:

Not 100% sure which team she will be playing for yet but it is most likely she will be going to Hyundai E&C as a replacement for Maya.

Another possible destination is for Expressway Hi-pass. With Taylor Cook currently unable to trained probably due to problems with her waist, there might be a slim chance Hayley will go Hi-pass instead. I know Hi-pass have replaced their foreign player once already. However, this happened before the league actually started, so I am unclear whether or not Expressway are allowed to change their foreign player once again.

  • I think it's better for Hyundai to let go of Maya and start searching for new foreigner

They need a good Opp especially now, when the race to be on top is fierce between GS-Hyundai-Heungkuk

Hwang Yoon Joo isn't like how she used to be anymore. She even need to be substituted in the last game.

They really have to release Maya and get new OP....

I agreed with you guys, I think it is better for Hyundai to replace Maya now rather than later.

At the moment it looks like Maya will be back after the break for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers (same like Lee So-Young). This means she will miss the last game of Round 2 and all five games of Round 3. She might miss even more games if it takes her a little longer to get back into shape. And who knows if the injury might happen again when they get to the business end of the season.

Yeah, Hwang Youn-Joo isn't the player she used to be. She getting blocked often and her success rate as dropped heaps.

Btw, I wonder why KOVO didn't consider how tight the schedule this season is when they have olympic qualification just around the corner

I can see it taking toll on NT players who mostly an ace in their team

are they THAT confident they can beat Thailand easily..

kinda scary when think about it

hopefully this not gonna bite them in the a**...

I also agree with tiffany .. The schedules are too tight and the matches are intense, can make the players fatigue or even injured... Especially the Lee twins, that if I'm not mistaken are the only NT players that played full on all their team matches without subbed once....

The main reason is they didn't shorten the season. As to why not, I have no idea either. Other factors are the season started later than usual because of the World Cup and the 3 weeks break for the Asian Olympic Qualifier means the V-League schedule gets all cram up together. The schedule wouldn't be such a problem if the teams use the substitute players more regularly.

Hyundai are their own worse enemy a lot of the time. They have a habits of making so many errors, giving up leads, and giving up sets so cheaply. Thankfully the Hyundai coach had the sense to use Jeong Ji-Yun as an opposite hitter and the rookie Lee Da-Hyeon as a middle blocker together like I wanted to see. Also, during that game, both Yang Hyo-Jin and the libero Kim Yeon-Gyeon were knocked out by spikes from Anae.

IBK has already given up on that idea. In my opinion, Park Sang-Mi is doing a decent job as the libero.

Things are just not working out for Hi-pass this season. Their hitting is particularly bad. Spike success rate is the lowest out of all the six teams at just over 32%. Only Moon Jung-Won and Yim Myung-Ok are playing well.

  • News Update:

    • An official from Hyundai E&C has confirmed that former KGC foreign player Hayley Spelman (28 y.o., 2.02m USA OPP) will replace Milagros Collar. Source: 1

The article states that Hyundai was willing to stick it out with Maya during her rehabilitation period but was forced to reconsider after taking into account the length of the training period needed after her rehabilitation. Another reason for the change is the team desire to get as many victory points as they can in the first half of the season before the key players go off to Asian Olympic Qualifier.

Hayley will join up with Hyundai this coming week. If there are no problems with getting the International Transfer Agreement (ITC) issued, it is expected her first game for Hyundai will be against GS Caltex on the November 28th.

  • No Taylor for Expressway Hi-pass today, not for a while apparently.

MB Jung Dae-Young was surprisingly left out of the starting line up and only came on as a sub to block. Hi-pass decided to start the game with their two youngest MBs Choi Min-Ji and Jeong Sun-Ah.

Massive first set from Park Jeong-Ah and Hi-pass are looking really good today.

  • Hi-Pass v Altos... Finally Hi-Pass won...even without foreigner...

I haven't watch full replay, just the end of it... :D

    PArk JA MVP,,,,,

Now the league is getting more intense....

    Current Team Standings:

    Upcoming Schedule:

  • KBSN Sports will broadcast all of the women's matches live this week.

Heungkuk vs Expressway on Nov. 26 (Tue), KGC vs IBK Altos on Nov. 27 (Wed), Hyundai E&C vs GS Caltex on Nov. 28 (Thu), KGC vs Heungkuk on Nov. 30 (Sat), and Hyundai E&C vs Expressway on Dec. 1 (Sun). For Dec.1 match: Hillstate only has 2 days break, while Hi-Pass has 4 days break...

The "unfairness" in Dec.1 ... Hillstate only has 2 days break after I assume it will be tough match v Kixx... while Hi-Pass has 4 days break.... The coach must use the reserve players wisely in rotation for schedule like this....

  • The "unfairness" in Dec.1 ... Hillstate only has 2 days break after I assume it will be tough match v Kixx... while Hi-Pass has 4 days break.... The coach must use the reserve players wisely in rotation for schedule like this....

Number of days between matches for each team (from the last game in round 2 to last game in round 3):

    GS Caltex - 5, 3, 2, 2, 4

    Hyundai E&C - 2, 3, 4, 4, 3

    Heungkuk - 3, 4, 2, 3, 4

    KGC - 2, 2, 7, 3, 2

    Expressway Hi-pass - 4, 2, 2, 4, 5

    IBK Altos - 5, 3, 2, 3, 2

Before Hi-pass 4 days break, they had breaks of 3, 2, 7, 2, 2 days between matches. Hyundai, on the other hand, had 8 days off before the GS match this Thursday. Before anyone says the schedule is biased towards Hyundai, they had breaks of 2, 2, 3, 2, 2 days between matches.

  • I guess Hyundai is the most unfortunate one. So many 2's

Anyways, I like how open the race is to be on top of the league for this season

anything can happen and GS isn't as dominating as before

I think I can understand why some coaches refused to substitute their ace players like the Lee twins

    the result can be unpredictable

even team at the bottom can beat the team at the top just like IBK vs GS match

  • Is Lucia injured?

    News Update:

    • Heungkuk Pink Spiders Lucia Fresco will not be playing against GS Caltex today. During a team meeting on 15th, Lucia complained of abdominal pain and immediately went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with appendicitis. After having surgery the next day on 16th, Lucia will be discharged tomorrow and will need two weeks rest.

      Sources: 1, 2, 3

Heungkuk Park Mi-Hee (PMH) said she think Lucia will be back for their last match before the break (Round 3 match against IBK on December 17th).
