Germany wins 2nd match vs France 3:2 (25:18, 22:25, 25:17, 18:25, 18:16). Grün did not play, Bouagaa was best German player. More details later.

    EDIT:
Germany: Weiss, Steffen (17 pts), Bouagaa (22), Kozuch, Ssuschke, Radzuweit, Tzscherlich (L); Apitz, Gollan
France: Salinas, Larnack, Turiaf (16), Schleck (17), Lozancic, Maculewicz, Rochelle (L); Faesch, Querard

I agree with Celso, I've also seen exceptionally many referee mistakes in this tournament! Yesterday in BRA-DOM Thaisa Menezes stood at the net when her team served and held the hands up like all players do, then the reception of DOM flew into the net and the ball touched Thaisa's hands through the net (she did not play the ball actively, just held her hands up and this is perfectly allowed), and the referee gave the point to DOM. I thought it was scandalous and there were also a lot of wrong line decisions.
Another thing I have seen, referees are very inconsequent with ball handling calls. There were so many balls in this tournament which in my opinion were clear errors but the referees did not call them and other balls which might have been a little incorrectly played but still ok were called.

Marina Akulova's injury looked really painful but the way it happened was very untypical, she slipped on a wet spot and twisted her ankle inwards :?

Xue Ming scored 12 block points against NED :!:  :!:  :!:

    Germany wins 1st match vs France 3:1 (25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19)
GER: Weiß, Grün (18 pts), Brinker, Beier (14), Ssuschke, Fürst (19), Tzscherlich (L); Apitz, Steffen, Bouagaa
FRA: Salinas, Querard (as OPP, I thought she is libero!), Kociniewski, Turiaf, Lozancic (16), Maculewicz, Rochelle (L), Faesch, Larnack, Schleck (16).

    Quote from "Celso"

In the first weekend the setter of the Dutch Team was Kim Staelens and maybe that's why they didn't have any chance at all against Brazil and Italy. From the 3rd match on, Riette Flederus was put in charge of the setting and they played a tough match against Brazil and now they beat Japan.

Fledderus didn't play today, she got a muscle injury yesterday in 3rd set. Kim Staelens is a baaaad setter but it looks like she performed well enough today.

DOM team has become sooooo poor...losing 16,12,14 against China and last week they lost against Kazakhstan too. Honestly I think it's a pity that teams like Kazakhstan, Taipei and DomRep are in WGP and other teams who could do much better are not...

I think I have seen you in the crowd in Eurosport :D I had checked the photo topic on that day and there was a strikingly familiar face on TV during one of the matches...

Now that Logan Tom has split with her partner on beach volleyball do you think she returns to indoor volleyball, maybe even USA NT? Does anyone know if/where she will play professionally next season?

    Italy team for first weekend:

    Setters: Lo Bianco, Dall'Igna
    Opposites: Aguero, Vitez
OHs: Fiorin, Ortolani, Secolo, Del Core
    MBs: Gioli, Guiggi, Barazza
    L: Croce

She used a natural product against cellulite ( ) and did not realise that some forbidden substance was in there. But as this substance is in many products and does not improve the athlete's performance it was a minor case of doping and she was suspended only for 60 days.
